What I think is ridiculous about every discussion about the game is that everyone points out at the Sorceress and casually say "this is misogynist". Except it is a game that is at the same time parodying and playing up fantasy tropes, most of all the "heroic aesthetic" of Conan or fantasy staples. The Fighter isn't simply a warrior, he is tall, strong and covered in a ridiculous tonnage of armor. The dwarf is a complete muscle fetishist from head to toe. The sorceress is the embodiment of the buxom witch (heck, she has her top on, unlike actual buxom witches in heroic fantasy). The Amazon draws from godamn GREEK ideals of athleticism. The Elf's build denotes nimbleness. My only problem is the mage. Going all out on the fantasy tropes would mean him to be the bearded "Gandalf type", but since they're playing to youth as a heroic ideal... it is more your manga-style wizard, cool and brooding. ugh.
So they have two female overly sexualized characters and two male overly sexualized characters all withing the heroic aesthetic. As far as designs goes, that seem fair to me. The three females have radically different body types, which I recall was one of the problems with this kind of sexualization. That's certainly better than most (well, pretty much all) fighting games.
I haven't played the game. I'm still waiting for any conclusive feel of how the game is before I make this decision and even then I'm not running to buy on the spot. Maybe the game is entirely about the Sorceress getting into porn situation and every word out of her mouth is a blowjob euphemism. It doesn't matter. Aesthetically, I see no problem. In fact, aesthetically, I find the elf prettier because I favor small breasts (and even then there's nothing on this world that'd steer me from playing the mage if I ever play this game), and I'm sure the same is true for a lot of women about the mage. If the game then goes on to be misogynist on a narrative level it is a complete different problem. Unless, maybe, while still following the same fantasy tropes, but only if they keep the same fairness and the women have the same sexual opportunities or fall into the same sexual situation as the men.
