A concern about befriending

I just had a thought...

Earlier today I was doing my regular routine and viewing the latest threads. Eventually I received a message from one of the users. He wanted to befriend me, but what got my attention was why he wanted to be my friend. He said that I responded to all his threads in a well mannered and respectful fashion, and he also liked my input.

Now even though I'm a regular here I have very little friends.(9 to be exact) But the reason why I have such a low number is because I like to make some sort of connection to the people I talk to. I don't just say "be my friend" just because there popular or have the same game I have. I want people to befriend me for who I am, not how popular.



So I have a question for those who have many friends.

Out of all of them how many do you actually talk to?
How many just befriend you, and you never heard from them again?

And to those who befriend others.

Do you befriend them because you have things in common, or do you befriend them just to say you have?

I normally befriend people after we've had a good conversation that may or may not have derailed a thread, and there are a few that I talk to regularly.

I usually ignore most requests.

The only person I actually added myself was xmetatr0nx, and some friends from another site.

Anyhoo, Once, I had 4 conversations going on with my friends at once.

Heh, I just joined up here a few days ago. I don't have any friends here. But as for experience in forums period, I usually only befriend people I know in real life, or people who I actually find myself talking to more then 2-3 times. If I actually enjoy that person's input and want to talk with them again, then maybe I'll make an exception.

Eh, I usually only send friend requests to peeps I have talked to, but many a times I have been befriended by people I had never talked to. I still friend them back though, least I could do.

It depends on if the person has good input in their posts (like you said) or if the person and I actually do have quite a bit to talk about.

As for me, I'll accept any friend request that I'm sent, as I don't see any reason why I shouldn't.

i realised about 2 months ago that i hated almost all my good friends
ive got around 5 now but loads of people who im comfortable around

friends shouldnt be people you settle for, they're people who you should want to spend lot's of time with

usually I'll befriend anyone who asks and anyone that I spark conversation, not a arguement mind you but a civil discussion or chat is cool with me, so basicly anyone who posts in the "OBJECTION!" thread more than 3 times
the reason for my rather loose rules of befriending is because the escapist is a website, you can unbefreind anyone in a second and there is a good chance that I'll never meet any of you so why be uptight about it? no offense to anyone intended.

If someone asks, I accept. I also befriend people if they have the EXACT same opinion as me.

Or just cause, I mean really, you can't have too many friends.

This is virtually the same for me. I talk to 4 of my Escapist friends on XBL, and as I have about 7, I know that's a majority, so yes, I do talk to the majority of my Escapist friends.
