Couldn't really get into Dragon Age Origins after playing and thoroughly enjoying the Mass Effect trilogy. I did give it 10 hours, and I can't say it was bad, but it just didn't grab me for some reason like the Mass Effect games did.
I couldn't particularly get into the first BioShock either.

Oblivion! Such a boring and lifeless world, poor combat system, and a story that drags on for the longest time. From what I know of the "Oblivion Crisis" and such, it obviously gets a lot more interesting, but I could never, and I mean NEVER torture myself enough to get to that point.

Also, Borderlands. Wonky controls, boring story, boring characters, most unfunny humor ever.

I got one of my own that comes to mind now.

God of War. It is Dynasty Warriors with a greek chorus yet people tout it up as one of the greatest action games of all time. It doesn't even feature the large maps or enemy count of DW, just a series of boxes connected by corridors. The gameplay is largely mashing square to get to a point where you can press triangle to mash square again. Nearly every attack hits the entire screen so they increase "difficulty" by adding enemies that don't flinch and have massive pools of health.

Then there's the character of Kratos, who was alright in the first game, but then the sequels came along and turned him into little more than a tantrum throwing child.

For me it's Fallout: New Vegas. I've given the game several chances thinking maybe on PC with mods would be better, boy was I wrong the game's an unplayable mess on PC, dropping FPS like it's covered in spiders. I did beat the game on PS3 and really just wasn't impressed with the writing, it told everything, they couldn't even try at show don't tell. I almost liked the faction system but they had to make the story an idiot plot (a story where everyone has to be utterly stupid for it to work) to make the player matter. The NCR couldn't do basic logistics to save their life; Mr. House is utterly trusting and insulting at the same time, just asking to be betrayed; Caesar's Legion deploys strategies that are unsustainable for troop numbers and morale, The no medications other than a minor natural antiseptic is just stupid given the world and the Autodoc wouldn't work since surgery without any anesthesia doesn't work well (even the old get the guy drunk is out of the question.)

The gameplay didn't really fix any of FO3's problems and the iron sights were just poorly done, I found the simple zoom in FO3 to be better feeling. The world design was flat out stupid, there was no way the starting town could survive so close to a deathclaw nest, it's like right there, the Deathclaws would so rip the town appart for food since it's right outside their nest and the townsfolk have nothing that could kill them. I just found the whole world design felt like it was made to punish exploration. You fight hard as hell monsters only to find that there's nothing behind them and the map marker was just there for something that wasn't put in.

*Halo: Ultimate generic FPS shooter with bland, derivative story and characters (but at least it had Cortana).
It wasn't particularly generic when it came out well over a decade ago. A combination of features not seen in a single game at that point, a unique aestetic across the board, and a reasonably strong focus on story are all things that were fairly unique at the time. The overwhelming success of the game lead to it's features being copied and iterated upon by those that came after and, in retrospect it may seem derivative but that's a fallacy. At worst it is iterative and even that argument is tenuous.

*Half-Life: Very competent. Good polish and FPS mechanics. Boring as hell. I just can't be bothered to care about anyone. I am still baffled by the amount of love for Alyx out there.
Half-Life is a series where the story is implied more than anything. If you aren't the sort to project ideas into a framework constructed for that purpose, I can see the problem. You might not, for example, like The Elder Scrolls either as a result.

*Uncharted 1: I once wrote a rant about this game that ended up being about 10 pages in Word. That said, I kinda am ok with Nathan Drake, himself, but the baffling blonde, Sully and pretty much every other character drove me nuts. The game has comparably poor shooter mechanics to other cover-based shooters, but insists on being far more "shitty Gears of War" than "competent Tomb Raider Knockoff." The first game also has some fairly blatant racist overtones and finally ends up with zombie nazi/conquistadors. Sorry, terrible game, and that's before you get to the jet ski sequences, which are some of the worst, most random things I have ever played. (Uncharted 2 was a pretty decent improvement in many respects).
I don't really buy this in the slightest. The only way you really find racist overtones in that game is by projecting them on the fact that you're killing people of non-Caucasian descent. Given that you're in a local that will predominately feature such people naturally it's simply a matter of setting. Hell, there isn't even any of the classic white man's burden to fall on here since the motivation of both protagonist and antagonist is simply self-serving greed. The brown people are simply pawns or obstacles to that end.

I would fully accept an argument that the dissonance was overwhelming enough to ruin the game but not the racist angle.

*GTA IV: Wow, I cannot think of a worst cast of characters in a game. GTA has never had "good guys" but, just wow. From a just plain scumbag main character to his downright hate-worthy irritating "friends," and the whole "hey, wanna take me bowling aspect?" Wow. It's a shame. The world-design and driving mechanics were solid, but the weapon/melee combat was awful, but the game also insisted on forcing the weapons through overly scripted events. I will never get over shooting out a guy's tires before engaging the chase portion of his mission and his tires automatically re-inflate. Baloney.
This one I'll agree with in principle. The game was simply broken in a great many ways. I wouldn't call the main character a scumbag so much as I would point to him as being wildly inconsistent. The level of inconsistency will vary depending on how you play the game of course .
Interesting responses, but I have counterpoints for all of them, though I'll keep them shorter than usual:

Halo: Original in that it sorta had vehicle sections in an FPS AND it was certainly revolutionary in that it made console FPS games viable. That's kinda it. I guess it's something, but still doesn't make up for the generic factor and, let's face it, The Library.

Half-Life: The story is implied, yeah, I got it. I also got the story, and all it's implications. It was... BORING. It's funny that you mention the Elder Scrolls, since I have more time collectively in Skyrim (via Steam) than any other game I own. Add that to the time I have in Morrowind and Oblivion and that's probably at least 2x as much as I have in any other game IP. But, really, the ultimate in implied stories is probably Dark Souls. Huge amount of non-force fed story and lore in the game, but only if you bother to look for it, read descriptions, etc. I love it. Sure, Half-Life has a developed plot. It's just dull and the characters make it more dull.

Uncharted: I won't go into the detail on the racist aspect. This is how I felt, especially after the bait and switch ultimate bad guy being suddenly the Mexican guy. While I understand that there are a lot of reasons to explain the ethnicity choices, counterpoint to all the good guys being white, it came off as a bit insensitive. Frankly, I'm normally really immune to these things, but for some reason, Uncharted rubbed me that way.

I know that everyone didn't necessarily love it, but I never really liked Borderlands. I enjoyed the combat, at least to start with, but after an hour or so i just felt like i was endlessly opening boxes, trapsing backwards and forwards to the nearest shop and shooting the same 3 enemies over and over again.
