for example, me and Witcher 2.

I don't want to start a flamewar or such, but why do people love this game? I played the first 2-3 hours of the game, but I can't continue because I think it isn't very good.

First, the voice-acting and facial-animations aren't very good. I don't know if I am just used to better facial expressions in some other games (Walking Dead, Mass Effect), but it looks like every characters face is made of stone when they are talking. I also don't like Geralds generic voice-acting or how Tris sounds like somebody who lives in California. It just takes me out of the experience.

Also, I feel like the conversations aren't fluid. There is a part in the game where you are trying to save a man from being executed and the conversation-system (+facial-animations+voice-acting) made it feel super awkward. Then the scene had an even more awkward QTE-fight. After that scene I stopped playing the game.

Then there are the menus that feel overly complicated. Maybe I'm just new to pc-gaming, but why does changing armor or making a potion need to be so hard? The combat isn't so good also.

I would like to hear of a game that you hated, but everybody else loved.

Appropriately enough, it's the first Witcher for me. I wouldn't say I hate it, but I definitely don't think it's very good.

Unlikeable characters, terrible voice acting, boring story, combat which can be fun but can also be a complete mess, and some of the most ridiculous back-tracking busywork I've ever had to slog through in a game. If it weren't for all the pointless going back and forth from place to place the game would probably have been 10 hours shorter.

Also, Geralt is a lousy protagonist. He's a dull, emotionless jerk, and the fact that his voice actor is probably the worst in the game (and that's saying something) doesn't help. If you're not going to give us a choice about the character we play, don't make him so boring. And if you insist on giving him a voice, get someone who is capable of human emotion to do the job.

Witcher 2 is a great game, even better if you've played the first and have read the books. The gameplay mechanics are definitely a major weakness, in both games actually, but it's worth adapting to as the game itself is very deep. You can tell the devs put a lot of love into it.

A game I never cared about that everyone seems to like: team fortress 2

People like The Witcher 2 because:
1. Amazing storyline, so deeply layered.
2. Great fleshed out characters all with their own motives.
3. Plot twists!
4. Amazing graphics
5. Decent combat system.
6. Fantasy meets politics.
7. Bro with Roche or Iorveth
8. Choice!

That right there is exactly your problem. Geralt is a Witcher. Witchers lack human emotions. It's something that is removed from them during the mutation processes. The voice acting is perfect for his character, for who he is. So while you may consider him boring, that's fine, he is by no means a bad voice actor. He plays the role perfectly.

Except Berengar and Vesemir are nowhere near as monotonous as Geralt is. They're still not great, but Berengar in particular gets frustrated and angry fairly often. I could easily be wrong about this, but I don't remember it being mentioned at any point in the game that witchers are supposed to be emotionless robots.

EDIT: Ok, according to the Witcher wiki, "it is a common belief, even among witchers themselves, that they have no capacity for emotion", in which case I take your point. I still maintain that the behaviour of the other witchers doesn't really back it up, though.

Yep, i got fed up with the Witcher 2 at the same spot as Odgical, I think i did a quest regarding some sort of past war crime/torture scenario and just quit because i didnt really care anymore.
You would have thought I learnt my lesson from the first one, damn steam sales...

I've said this many times already, but I hate mgs4 (well the entire series to be fair)
I just find the games sooo boring, I've tried to like it, I've stared mgs4 about 5/6 times but I just doesn't click for me.

FTL. I absolutely hate the idea of a game that, no matter how good you play and how well you know your way around it, you cannot win unless you get lucky. I'd rather take something that requires skills over this.

Berengar is a little... strange. He is a CD Projekt creation, meaning he wasn't in the original books (which, obviously, is where all the canon comes from). It isn't the only small inconsistency between the books and the games. Although Berengar is unique among Witchers anyway due to his resentment of himself and what he is, you could claim Berengar still retains some of his original humanity. Perhaps his mutations didn't go 100%, who knows.

Doesn't help that I can't find a good youtube playthrough of it online. I kinda use those to find a game I enjoy or to find evidence of a bit of a game that I'd appreciate. I don't even know if it gets better after the swamp bit.
I personally think that the latter half of the swamp and the second act are way, way better than the start. Part of it has to do with an increase in combat options as you level up, but the writing also gets tighter and a lot of things are nicely interwoven with each other. Plus, it is a great thing of the game to actually make Act 2 into two completely different acts (with unique sidequests and areas to visit and different effects in Act 3) depending on who you sided with in Act 1.

Mass Effect... Better facial animation than... Witcher 2, you must be trolling.
Your avatar makes this post so much more amusing. :D

Maybe OP's PC can only run The Witcher 2 with all of the graphical settings turned all the way down.

OT: Boy, we get these threads a lot. It's not like my answers are any different from the last one we had like, two weeks ago.

Anyway, the only games I "hate" would be Final Fantasy XIII and Pokemon Black/White, and I'm relatively sure that "everybody else" doesn't love those games.

Oh man, Half Life 2 was a mess. I don't understand how it revolutionized video game story telling when it didn't have a story. Heck, even Halo and COD are better, atleast they insert some personality, and Halo has a little bit of color.

I can't say I really outright hate any game really. I somewhat DISLIKE call of duty..I don't hate FF13 but it certainly wasn't good and I fully regret buying it and 13-2 (which was better by a lot, but still not fantastic). I do however have a friend that cannot bring himself to understand why people love Telltale's The Walking Dead game. He thinks its one of the wost things ever created.

The one I'm playing right now: the first Uncharted.

I don't actually hate it, I just don't get why my friends love it so much. It has a great atmosphere, awesome voice acting and some good characters, but the controls are wonky, the camera keeps changing angles at the wrong points in jumping puzzles which will cooperate with the wonky control to kill your ass, and the game is swamped by meaningless combat because apparently a crime boss hiring a single cheap PMC company has enough man- and firepower to invade f*cking Bolivia.

And yet Drake is unable to carry meaningful amounts of ammo, leading to frequent points in firefights where you're being shot at from 14.5 seperate directions, yet have to scramble through the hail of fire because you've once again run out of bullets. This is without mentioning the tendency of the game to go "Oh! Have this weapon! We put it here just for you!" and then refuse to have any other enemy carry it for the next 15 minutes so you don't get any more ammo for it.

It's pretty much a game form of a mix between Indiana Jones, and occasional forays into a version of the intro of Saving Private Ryan where the entire Allied Force is replaced by Nathan Drake, armed with a pistol with 3 spare mags and a dull throwing knife. And every know and then the camera guy gets a seizure.

I have to say that the Witcher 2 gets way better after the first chapter.

Anyway, probably Call of Duty after MW2. It is just so stale and the cheap ass deaths really piss me off. I played MW2 because of friends, and I already kinda hated it. COD 4 really pissed me off with the goddamn helicopter and noobtubes and then they decided to add more! Ugh. Although, I suppose people don't really like COD, it is just popular and their friends play it.
