Lol.
Naruto has gotten a bit better lately, and i did enjoy the past few Bleach chapters.
I wont tell you about /a/ then but, ill show you some of the glorious Memes iv gotten from them.
oh my Gosh... those Gems are... of unknown Value... my favourite is the "Kurosaki-kun" one, because thats an inside Joke between me and my friends at school :p the Aizen one is awesome too though :D

Yeah, Naruto's been suddenly getting remarkably badass at an awesome rate, so i've quite enjoyed reading it. Bleach's most recent chapter was a dissapointment to me, but i'm hoping that it will make sense this coming chapter. 2 weeks ago was brilliant though... Gin ichimaru is my favourite character.
oddly enough, my favourite Manga is One Piece. i think its been consistently brilliant and the concept of it is simple, but has so much room for Genious. a lot of people are put of by Eichera Oda's ... odd sense of humour, but i've grown to really like it, finding myself laughing at his puns and ongoing gags (I read shaman king first, which was a nice lead up to his sense of humour)
Gin is my favorite too...

I love One Piece, out of the Big 3, its had the most consistent quality.
The Comedy, Action, and Drama are all balanced perfectly.
Nico Robin is my favorite character.
Iv read a but of Shaman King and i agree, its sense of Humor is Certainly Different.
There is a Manga by Stan Lee and the Creator of Shaman King called Ultimo, its really good.
Its kinda Creepy too me though.
All the young boys are Beautiful and its got a strange sense of humor, but its got a interesting story.

i'm sorry, but if you want a story, no. It's pretty much boils down to KOTA RUN IT UP IN ME, OH WAIT YOU WANT HER... WELL I'M GONNA ACT MOODY AND HAVE SHIT BLOW UP. While i actually did enjoy it for the wtf is happening, the ones listed above i believe are more story based. So if you want an amazing story the anime you want is!

TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN!
Greatest anime of all time. The only anime where i ALMOST cried and probally the only time i'll ever get that close. You know what part i'm talking about.

haha, Gin's only been my favourite since i bought the Bleach wii beat-em-up game. because of his voice... damn is it nice xD and then i've just been a bit of a fanboy since then.

yes, another one piece lover :D i really struggle to find a favourite character in One Piece. i used to say Franky, but thats not really true... One Piece is the only manga i've read where i don't hate a character. i've liked every single one (who's been developed obviously, i can't really like the background mumblers), even the bad-guys who i am meant to hate i find myself in awe of.
ooh, i'll have to look into that Ultimo :p i think i can brave the beautiful boys. and its the strange sense of humours that keep me coming back to many manga's :D

Another manga i read is that Histories strongest disciple Kenichi. I think that is also brilliant, the humour's brilliant, the fight-scenes are really intense and it follows its own kind of logic which it keeps up throughout. I'm also very fond of Fairytail, that has yet to (really) dissapoint me.
I used to read a tonne of Manga scanlations at Onemanga... but that site's taken off its manga now. it makes sense at all but i still feel a little down about it
fortunatly, the mainstream stuff is easy to find elsewhere... just other little cool mangas, such as "superior" and "cage of eden" are harder to find.

It is my obligation to bring up Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Can I leave this thread now?
Unfortunately, NGE isn't exactly in the style which he was looking for.

Personally, I'm a bigger fan of manga. You see, if the anime and the manga are being created at the same time, many problems can arise. First of all, it is a lot faster for new anime episodes to be produced than for new manga chapters. So a lot of padding has to be put in place to allow for the manga to catch up. This is why the Dragonball Z anime has five episodes of people going into powerup sequences, because the manga was still being produced. If read the manga instead, you'll see that powering up only takes one panel, as opposed to 10 minutes.
Anyway, if you do have your heart set on anime, I have some good suggestions. First of all, take a look at Rurouni Kenshin if you're into swordfighting. Even if you're not, there is a lot of history behind it. The One Piece and YuYu Hakusho series are quite good as well. If you're into the wacky humor thing, as your original post suggested, the Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo anime is a lot of fun. FLCL, although fairly short, is entertaining as well, although it is a bit of a mindfuck. Finally, (it's a movie, but whatever), Akira is a complete masterpiece of the traditional Japanese animation medium.
I hope this helps!

it's not just lolis and violence...there's actually a good story that gets developped over time
Eureka 7 and Hellsing are also good
and Ghost in the Shell is great kickass, both in its movies and its series

i would suggest princess tutu, not only to surrender my masculinity but to say that it is kinda crazy awesome, in a restrained way. there is no way to describe it without completely surrendering my man card though.

The only one's I've seen are Ranma 1/2, Hell Girl and Code Geass...so I'll say those.

Also, if you count the movie Howl's Moving Castle as anime, that is good as well.

Well if you're looking for something along those, lines I can't help you. However if you are an electronic music fan, and especially a Daft Punk fan, i suggest taking a look at Interstella 5555. Until I watched that, I was never really subjected to anime, except for the obvious stuff (Pokemon, Yugioh, Digimon? anyone?) but when I saw this I sort of got into it. You might want to check it out.

I liked it but I think it's a little too... you know brutal for someone that's into slice of life

O.T. poni pani dash is petty good and if you want something that's under rated and good I suggest Baccano!(although it's not your style you're looking for but I recommend it highly)

You might like "Beck" but I haven't seen it yet.
I hear they did a superb job with it and I think you might like Clannad/Clannad:After Story if you like school/slice-of-life stuff.

Ever since Gin made his first appearance in the Manga iv loved him.
And are you talking about Bleach:Shattered Blade?
Though Komamura is my top Favorite Bleach Character.
If so then Aw Yea.
I cant help but love that game.

I just love Nico...ever sence she first appeared as a Antagonist i just really liked her.
And as she was fleshed out i started to like her even more.
After her its Zolo, Buggy, and Luffy.
It was hard to choose them though, like you said, all the Characters are awesome.
Whitebeard is another favorite that i feel is a Given.
He is just so awesome.

Iv never read Kenichi or Fairy Tail.
Though just by looking at Fairy Tail it reminds me a lot of one Piece.

I try not to read online that much.
Bleach is the one one i really stay up to date on.
I just like owning a physical copy of whatever it is i like.
:p

You should check out Fruits Basket and Clannad. You may also like Cardcaptor Sakura, True Tears, Akikan, Chobits, Ah My Goddess, FLCL (Fooly Cooly), Umisho, Please Twins and Please Teacher. That's all I have watched that are similar to the ones mentioned in the OP I can think of for now.

Got to give a shout out to Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Excel Saga, Ghost in the Shell, any Studio Ghibli films, and Martian Successor Nadesico though, not in your preferred genre, but fantastic anime.
