A Heart Sensor? Really Nintendo

Somehow, I don't think WiiFit or horror games was the actual intention. I thought about this a bit, particularly regarding the speech leading up to its unveiling. They talked about bridging the gap between 'casual' and 'hardcore' gamers, and that difficulty was a large part of it.

With that in mind, I think they actually made this with the intention of creating video games with self-adjusting difficulty. It would actually be more for casual gamers still, since the idea of a game becoming easier is going to turn off the 'hardcore' gamers, but the idea seems to be that if the device detects that you're becoming frustrated, then the game gives you a break. It does apparently measure things aside from your pulse, though that was all that was mentioned specifically I think. Sure, fitness and horror games seem to be the obvious choice, but a game giving you a break because it detected you're getting frustrated seems possible too. Depending on how advanced this thing is.

All speculation, mind you, but we were told jack-all aside from what it does. Seriously, when is that thing even going to be available?

Doctor Mario just became disturbingly interactive.
Exactly what I was thinking.

They also already have the Wii-Dart. I'm sure that could be easily modified to become the Wii-syringe.

Your Nintendo wii can now tell if your having a heart attack! The only thing i could think of it would be good for is the fitness stuff or a possible "scary" video game.

I can't imagine any type of game beside the fitness games where this thing could help game play so I wonder why Nintendo felt that this was a major accessory that they needed to tell us about. Since the player can not completely control their heart rate, it?s basically adding a random element into a game which is really unnecessary.

OK, I can see few uses for fitness games or maybe even horror... but this is so not necessary.

Makes sense for Wii Fit and I'm sure they could use it in horror games for a great effect.
... That's an excellent idea!

I mean, a heart monitor would help so much. Using music and lighting changes, the game would increase your heart rate (or attempt to). When the heart rate is down (or possibly very high), the game would initiate an event to do... something.

Okay, so the idea needs work, but it could DEFINITELY have some legitimate use in gaming.

Seeing how a lot of the people who play the Wii are really old, it kind of makes perfect sense. Alert the customers to when their having a heart attack so they live longer and buy more of our games.

Too bad M$ didn't think of this first. It could have been an achievement.

Am I the only one getting the feeling that Nintendo are seriously running out of ideas and are just getting lazy? I mean the Wii and DS are still practically printing money for them. Why design you know... Useful things when they're already rich enough to buy several islands and a space shuttle?

Two new Mario games and a Metroid game. Smashed through the bottom of the barrel and are now scraping at dirt. But yeah I agree, this is very unnecessary. Could be useful for horror and sports games. Everything else? Not so much. Okay, rant over.

There's a special add-on that will be available later that plugs straight into your phone. They're marketing it for an older, more fragile audience.

"Thrown out your back attempting to hula virtual hoops? Dislocated a shoulder attempting to Punch Out Mike Tyson? Well, don't bother trying to pry yourself off the floor; with the brand new Wii Will Call The Paramedics For You, help will be by your side in 2-15 minutes!"

Wait a minute...Wii Fit is an exercise game. When you exercise, it can be useful to know your heart rate, so you can get into your optimum heart rate, not to quick and not too slow. This lets you...wheres the problem? I mean, it's not exactly a big leap forward in gaming, but its useful for people who want to exercise.

Leave it to you to turn a bad idea to a good one. Like an artificial anus.
I...
I can't do anything with that one.

Well, you could take it to prison and give it to your bunkmate, I guess.
Ooh! Ooh! I got one! Don't look if you're easily offended.
<color=white>Or, gay couples could use it when one of them "has a headache"
:p
...yeah, I'm a horrible person. But if one viewer laughed, I'm happy with that.
And I want Nintendo to keep their tech off my body, thank you very much. The force-feedback codepiece was scary enough.

My friend, they can release a Wii Tea Cozy next, for all I care. There's finally a proper Metroid game on the way (no, I don't consider Metroid Prime a real Metroid game, so sue me). By Team Ninja.

I pretty much take back everything bad I ever said about Nintendo. Come home, baby. All is forgiven.
