Allow me to set the scene.

You are a young male student in his late teens/early twenties. Every day, you have to take a 2-hour-long train ride to the place you study at, and the train is always very crowded. When you board the train on this particular cold day, out of pure luck, you manage to secure a seat all for yourself. As the train leaves the station, you lazily rest your head on the windowsill, thinking that this is going to be just another boring day.

Once the train arrives at the next stop, you feel somebody gently tap you on your shoulder. You turn around, and its a young, attractive girl around your age. She shyly asks if she can sit next to you, due to there being no other eligible seats on the train. You agree, and she sits down next to you.

As she sits down, you take a good look at her. She's wearing a khaki-green jacket, fully buttoned up, along with a pair of jeans. Her hair is mahoghany-brown and goes up to around her shoulders. On her lap, she's carrying a medium-sized backpack colored a dark green, with a floral pattern on the front pocket.

She notices you looking at her, and turns her head away shyly.

Over the course of the train trip, you somehow manage to break through her shy disposition and strike up a conversation with her. As it turns out, you're interested in more than a few similar things, which you talk about together at great length. As the conversation continues, you notice that she's becoming more sociable, she looks you in the eyes for longer stretches of time and she's generally opening up to you. At one point, you ask about what station she's getting off at, but for some reason, she refused to answer and looked away from you nervously, before changing the subject.

About an hour into the conversation, however, you suddenly realize that you never asked her what her name is, so you ask her. As she's just about to say her name, however, a large shockwave shakes the train. The whole train carriage goes silent. Suddenly, a second, bigger shockwave shakes the entire train, seemingly throwing the whole world into chaos. Everybody's screaming, everything's flying everywhere, it's utter pandemonium.

When you come to, the first thing you notice is the pile of wreckage that used to be your train spread all around where you had passed out. You push yourself up onto your knees, where you notice the girl from before, laying face-up a few feet away from you. She seems to be unconscious and banged-up, but otherwise fine. Directly next to you is a heavily damaged iPad. The screen is heavily cracked, but you can make out the news article that the iPad's former owner was reading: A breaking news story about a previously-unknown terrorist organization that had invaded the area you're in and is causing chaos. Before you can read on, however, the iPad fizzles out and breaks down, never to be used again.

You take another look around you. Everywhere you look, you can only see one of five things: Rubble, fire, burning rubble, smoke, or bodies. Off in the distance, you can hear screaming and gunfire. A few feet away from you, you see a metal briefcase. You walk over to it, open it up, and notice a small handgun, as well as a few magazines for it. Meanwhile, the girl from before has woken up and is looking over your shoulder. She notices the gun, and asks if you?re also a soldier.

Before you can answer her, however, she looks up and momentarily freezes in shock. You follow her gaze, and notice somebody standing on a nearby pile of rubble. He?s large, muscular and wearing a balaclava over his head. He also has a large, threatening rifle in his hands. He appears to notice you two, and slowly ambles over the wreckage to where you and the girl are. Immediately, the girl quickly and skilfully places a magazine from the briefcase into the pistol, turns the safety off, and hands it to you handle-first, all with a serious look on her face. She then whispers something in your ear...

You have to get us out of here. I know you can do it.

She then kisses you on the cheek before turning her gaze to the terrorist, who is currently only a few feet away.

What do you do?

I heroically grab the weapon and state a clever one-liner. I lift the weapon (one handed of course while holding mystery girl in my arms with the other). Also, my shirt became ripped just enough so that you can see the six pack abs that I suddenly gained.

I then get shot repeatedly because I forgot to turn the safety off. I should have clicked the safety BEFORE holding onto the lady...

On the plus side, the terrorist now gets a clever one-liner...

As funny as this is, I changed the story so that she turns the safety off before handing it to you.

In that case, I have the pistol now in my hands. I fire off the clip at the terrorist, killing him with extreme overkill. I then look at the lady and say "Sorry I got so excited, it's my first time..." This makes the situation terribly awkward as I realize that you could take that as a sexy joke...

After a few VERY uncomfortable seconds, the other terrorists arrive and blow us both to bits. We really should have gotten moving after killing that first guy...

EDIT: Go on, keep changing the story! I can create stupid reasons for myself getting killed all day long :)

I'd shoot the man regardless of the woman. However, in your scenario, I'd shoot the man, give the pistol to the woman (if she can load it she can damn well learn to shoot it) grab the rifle off the man plus whatever ammo he may be carrying, and start heading back the direction we came from and make sure the woman tells me what her bloody name is.
See that part I bolded? I just wanted to congratulate you on picking up that little piece of information. Well done.

One down, two to go.

Am I paranoid for being highly suspicious of this girl and her possible motives? How the hell does she handle a gun like that anyway and why doesn't she use it if she's so skilful? Was it her briefcase that contained the gun? Why would that briefcase even have a gun in the first place. Also, why wouldn't she tell us what station she's headed to?

Plus, what evidence do we have exactly that this guy is out to kill us? I mean is it normal to be wearing a balaclava in the region we're in? Is it normal to have a gun? Is he wearing some kind of uniform?

Assuming the guy is actually hostile I'd probably be killed whilst thinking of all these questions.

Why did she hand me the pistol in the first place? She loaded it correctly and quickly enough that she obviously knows her way around a pistol. Also the line "asks if you're also a soldier" pretty much tags her as a soldier -- it's not like a terrorist organization is going to go easy on her for looking like a harmless girl, so why not fire at the enemy herself? I will not suffer a woman who could be useful but chooses not to be.

I fire at the balaclava-ed man, and miss (I've never used a pistol before, and am not a very good shot). While he's laughing at me, I grab one of the throwing knives I've been practicing with out of my boot and take aim. The knife lands squarely in his chest, and I take cover behind some train pieces as he fires the shotgun with his last breath. I stroll up to the body to retrieve my knife and kick him once in the head for ruining my morning. Remembering that the cute girl is still here, I turn to her, and offer to return the pistol in exchange for her name and assignment. If she doesn't want to tell me, well... let's just say I could get both of us out of here, but it'd be a lot easier to just get me out of here.

On her lap, she's carrying a medium-sized backpack with colored a dark green, with a floral pattern on the front pocket.
I bet she had that metal briefcase in here.
Meanwhile, the girl from before has woken up and is looking over your shoulder. She notices the gun, and asks if you're also a soldier.
By asking this, she's just given herself away as a soldier. And funny how she wakes up right after I open the briefcase. What, was she pretending to be out?
He also has a large, threatening rifle in his hands. He appears to notice you two, and slowly ambles over the wreckage to where you and the girl are. Immediately, the girl quickly and skilfully places a magazine from the briefcase into the pistol, turns the safety off, and hands it to you handle-first, all with a serious look on her face.
If he notices us but doesn't fire, he either deserves to be shot or he's not an enemy.

So, I force her to the ground (which makes her a smaller target and keeps her pinned if it's some sort of trap), aim at the guy, and tell him to drop the weapon. If he tries raising it, I put some holes in his chest, give her the pistol, and take the rifle, along with any other gear he has. If he complies and somehow reasonably proves he's not here to kill me, then I hate to say it, but I put the gun to the cute girl's chest/back and ask what the hell's going on.

I would probably try to surrender maybe I can be a hostage and get out alive. If I shoot this guy he's likely not alone and his friends would kill me horribly for murdering his buddy.

ill suddenly be very happy for every second i spent on the firing range and obsessing over guns and use that precious knowledge to shoot the terrorist. if i succeed i look around at my surrounding's and attempt to make a quick escape into the woods, provided i escape into the wood i will go into hiding for afew hours then start to work my way back to the railway line, find it and stay hidden in the woods nearby until night falls before following the train tracks to civilisation under the cover of darkness (this may take several days, if so i will travel by night and hide by day and hopefully find some food and water)

hopefully ill succeed, this plan is full of danger and a single mistake could mean death but its my best shot at survival
Forgetting someone?

I would use my instincts to decide whether the man is intending to shoot us with the rifle, judging the answers to questions like "Does he look like he has been shooting people today?"

I would like to point the gun at him and demand that he drop his weapon. Unfortunately a "small handgun" vs a "threatening rifle" doesn't sound like very good odds for me if he decides to shoot.

Assuming I disarmed him / he wasn't a terrorist, I would check to see make sure that the girl wasn't the devil, or a sith lord or anything like that.

I ask the man in the balaclava who he is and what he wants before attempting to shoot him.
In this situation either of them could be one of the terrorists mentioned on the IPad.

Shoot the man, in the chest twice.

I would then grab the damaged iPad, get anything of use from the dead guy and fall back with the girl in tow, while asking her one question,

"How much did you know about what was going to happen?"

While she may have been 'shy at first', it indicates to me she was originally trained by the terrorists and got cold feet before Zero Mission. Since she seems faimilar with how modern firearms work, she knows more then she lets on.

Amusingly, a friend of mine was going to set up a RPG campaign based around a similar scenario, except it is an invading army instead.

What would I do? I'd probably die horribly, along with the idiotic girl who can't bear to fire her own weapon when she had the opportunity. Chances are that he's better trained with his weapon and more mentally and physically prepared for a fight (since he's in the middle of clearing out a train and probably expecting resistance, while I've just recovered from a massive crash), and his weapon is much stronger than my own.

I wave to my comrade and smile about the successful attack. Looks like the earthquake machine was a success! Also, assuming I don't know who the girl is, I ask her about herself.

Fucking shoot me now.

When you board the train on this particular cold day, out of pure luck, you manage to secure a seat all for yourself.
As opposed to sharing a seat? Is it normal for strangers to sit on another person's lap to save space?

As the train leaves the station, you lazily rest your head on the windowsill, thinking that this is going to be just another boring day.

Once the train arrives at the next stop, you feel somebody gently tap you on your shoulder. You turn around, and its a young, attractive girl around your age. She shyly asks if she can sit next to you, due to there being no other eligible seats on the train.
"NO! Buzz off, ****!"

You agree, and she sits down next to you.
Well shit. Now I want to go back to the strangers sitting on laps plan.

What I notice is a green jacket, jeans, brown hair, and a backpack of some dark color. That's all the detail I'm willing to pick up.

She notices you looking at her, and turns her head away shyly.

Over the course of the train trip, you somehow manage to break through her shy disposition and strike up a conversation with her. As it turns out, you're interested in more than a few similar things, which you talk about together at great length.
Holy shit, someone else interested in Satanic rituals, gay midget porn, and clubbing baby seals?

As the conversation continues, you notice that she's becoming more sociable, she looks you in the eyes for longer stretches of time and she's generally opening up to you.
Heart or legs?

At one point, you ask about what station she's getting off at, but for some reason, she refused to answer and looked away from you nervously, before changing the subject.
"...the fuck? I'm not going to follow you home and rape you in the bushes."

About an hour into the conversation however,
God this commute is such fucking bullshit.

you suddenly realize that you never asked her what her name is, so you ask her.
FUCKING COMMUTE! Why couldn't I live closer!?

When you come to, the first thing you notice is the pile of wreckage that used to be your train spread all around where you had passed out. You push yourself up onto your knees, where you notice the girl from before, laying face-up a few feet away from you. She seems to be unconscious and banged-up, but otherwise fine.
Well, as long as she's unconscious I might as well make the best of a bad situation...

No surprise there, Apple builds their iPad's like shit.

You take another look around you. Everywhere you look, you can only see one of five things: Rubble, fire, burning rubble, smoke, or bodies. Off in the distance, you can hear screaming and gunfire. A few feet away from you, you see a metal briefcase. You walk over to it, open it up, and notice a small handgun, as well as a few clips of ammunition for it.
Because I'm a kleptomaniac like that. Shit just hit the fan and I can't resist the urge to go through other peoples' belongings.

Meanwhile, the girl from before has woken up and is looking over your shoulder. She notices the gun, and asks if you?re also a soldier.
As a matter of fact, I am.

Before you can answer her, however, she looks up and momentarily freezes in shock. You follow her gaze, and notice somebody standing on a nearby pile of rubble. He?s large, muscular and wearing a balaclava over his head.
Surely he is the paramedic, right?

He also has a large, threatening rifle in his hands. He appears to notice you two, and slowly ambles over the wreckage to where you and the girl are. Immediately, the girl quickly and skilfully places a magazine from the briefcase into the pistol, turns the safety off, and hands it to you handle-first, all with a serious look on her face.
The fuck? If she's so spry after getting the shit knocked out of her, it's obvious she has enough training on her own. She can do her own dirty work, I'm no one's pawn!

She then whispers something in your ear...

You have to get us out of here. I know you can do it.
"Well, I know I can get out of here, but you're on your own, sugar tits."

She then kisses you on the cheek before turning her gaze to the terrorist, who is currently only a few feet away.
She better do more than give me a kiss on the cheek if I pull both our asses out of the fire.

What do you do?
Normally I'd pop Mr. Balacava in the head since as a rule of thumb I don't trust anybody wearing a balacava ever. But, Ms. Multiple Personality over here is freaking me out with the token shy girl to trained special agent act, so I'll hold off until I can determine which one is getting the bullet in the head. Probably both. Then I can REALLY make the best of a bad situation. Corpse threesome! Both with an extra hole!

I'd probably have to shoot myself as the only explanation is that I've somehow fallen into a juvenile weeaboo fantasy dimension of some sort. :C

What does this girl even have to do with your scenario? If she knows so much as how to load a weapon, why would she be handing it to some stranger?

The terrorist must be part of a sleeper cell in order to have been on the scene so quickly, which means he'll be speaking my native language. Formulating a general assumption on his origin based on skin, tattoos, etc., I address the terrorist with a vague accent based on my assumption.

"Here," I say coldly, pushing the girl over to the terrorist, "She's got intel. Intel we need. Where are the others?"

The terrorist is now confronted with two options. First, he might buy the bluff and cautiously trust that I'm from another cell. If I'm lucky. Then he'll probably mention where any other terrorists in the area are. I can either shoot him then, or stick with the bluff and see where it leads. Hopefully back to a base where I can do some real damage before escaping with the girl.

If he doesn't buy the bluff, well now he's gotta get the girl out of the way first, and I have an extra second with the drop on him.

I'd be fairly confused as to why the situation unfolded in this exact way. Considering I have no experience with firearms, I'm not sure why I have to be the one who should have to shoot the gun.

...Oh, whatever. I'd probably just pull the trigger after aiming at the guy. But no guarantees that my aim is going to be very solid. Or that we're not dead before I have a chance to fire due to my questioning of the situation in my head.

AND THEN (if we live) WE'D RIDE OFF INTO THE SUNSET AND GET MARRIED

...Nah. This whole situation just seems a little weird to me.

After pissing myself, i'd look at the girl and whisper. "why the hell did you give me the gun? We just spent the past hour or so establishing that I'm a geek with no weapon or combat experience. How does talking about Warhammer 40K armies, DND 3.5 vs 4th edition. And me bitching about the ending of ME3 translate to 'give him the gun'."

"you can do this."

"...no I fucking can't!"

Terriost(?): *cough*

Frezzing in terror I turn to him. "...Chupa.."

Terriost(?): "Wha?"

"Solo me buckee...WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!?" I point to something behind him. If he's dumb enough to turn around I shoot him probably in the foot or something. Or knowing my luck my gun jams and I just throw it as head.

That's assuming he bothers to cough and not just gun me down. But yeah my main thought at this moment is 'wtf is going on here I was going to the mall.'
