So I've written this response while only re-reading from the explosion. I've probably missed some key details from the other half, but in reality I wouldn't factor that in to my thought process. I'll dot point the major action groups and justify them. Oh, and I haven?t slept in a long while so excuse how poorly written it is. Anyway!
* I take the gun with my right hand and aim it at the man with the rifle. I move so the right side of my body is facing the man and use my left arm to bring the girl behind me.
In this I hope to minimise the chance of hitting me (smaller area to hit) and the probability of hitting my heart by increasing the distance the bullet would have to travel through (though given the size of the rifle, that is unlikely to help). I have moved the girl behind me due to a protective instinct.
* I don't fire. I yell at him to stop and to identify himself.
The man has already noticed me, is armed, and is moving towards me. If he wanted to kill me, he would have already. I'm not in any immediate danger, and if he shoots me it's likely he'll also be aiming for my chest to take me down - not kill me - and my previous actions have mitigated the damage. Furthermore, I'm disorientated by a blast and will have shakes due to adrenalin. I would not hit him if I tried.
* Assuming he does not stop, and does not identify himself, I back away as fast as possible. If he makes any aggressive moves, I fire - though the intent is to give us time to get way, not kill him - and run for the nearest cover.
This is simple self-preservation. I've already established that I'm unlikely to be able to shoot him, so the safest course of action is to retreat.
Anyway, I'm going to stop here as I'm basing actions on my own assumptions, rather than the scenario, but there are a few things worth noting.
* I don't trust the girl. Why?
She's wearing functional clothes, and asked me if I'm
also a soldier. She's obviously expecting some kind of trouble. I also don't like someone that age asking if I'm a soldier, it suggests that she's a terrorist.
She's knows her way around a gun.
She's shy and is particularly sensitive about what she's doing. She didn't introduce herself - she's hiding something. I don't think she's shy actually - but nervous or anxious.
She was protective of whatever is in that back pack. I travelled to and from school in pretty similar situation as described, and no one keeps a bag that size on their lap unless they are protective of what?s inside it or they simply can't put it on the floor.
She's trying to manipulate me with the kiss. Going from shy girl to kissing me is way to strange. I believe she is trying to manipulate me because she believes I have military training.
* I?m willing to stick with her and try to understand whatever she?s hiding. Why?
She was talking to me, despite being on edge about whatever she had to do. She?d only do that if I?m part of whatever she had to do ? which is unlikely ? or she had real interest.
She?s young. If she?s into something really bad, it?s likely due to naivety than something malicious.
Given the above, she doesn?t want me dead and she obviously has some form of training ?something I?m painfully lacking in. It?s probably safest for me to help her.
Anyway, I?ll take another look later and maybe read the first half for the details I missed the first time. If you got anything more to add to the scenario I?ll respond to that as well.
