No matter how hard I try I just cannot love Pokemon, the battle system is just so... bad... ah well, not for everyone I guess.

"Catching Them All" is a stupid, stupid goal, and you should be ashamed for even trying it, especially if you actually succeeded. After all, what was your reward? OH, THAT'S RIGHT, NOTHING. Except a sticker or ribbon or something.
It was a certificate saying your a pokemon master, and a thank you from oak actually. I did it and red and couldn't do it ever again for a number of reasons, there are too many now, I don't have nearly enough time, and the big one, I have no one to trade with. Back when it was red and blue all the kids I knew had it so I had several trade connections, this is far from the case now as very few college students still play pokemon (me included really). But an MMO could fix the issue of no longer having people to play with. As for keeping it kid friendly, you can always make all the swears changed to "smell you later".

A Pokemon MMO would me epic. I would pay good money for that lol.

I'm getting heartgold too! Gold was the last pokemon game i owned and played. I caught most of them :D. I'm starting Heartgold the same way i started gold, or atleast the way i think i did, Cynadill.

Getting a DS lite on friday (payday thank god) then preorder Heartgold the same day so i get the figurine. Then the next friday, i start my quest through johto. It's been too long but a remake of gold? of course i was gonna get it! my favourite game ever as a kid.

I have to say no. I haven't played any since Gold and Silver so I'm out of the loop now. I would say that it had a MMORPG feel to it in the way you fought other trainers. It would be a good idea though.

Instead of jumping straight to a MMO, why not put the next generation pokemon game onto the wii, with 3D graphics and the ability to have online battles and trading with other trainers and friends around the world that can only be done at pokemon centres?

If this is a success then maybe see about an MMO for the following generation.

I've always hoped that there would someday be a Pokemon MMO, and even though the concept is still good, it would be hard to actually make.
I didn't want to take up the whole page with a quote so I thought I'd just quote the first paragraph so people know what I'm responding to.

There's always hiccups with MMO systems like the ones you've mentioned, truth be told I'm not sure myself how a battle system would work, but I think with the cunning use of instances, I reckon a slightly tweaked version of the old combat system would work fine since I doubt a "Party" system would be in effect. Just remove the two trainers in question whilst they battle, or put a sign above their head saying "Battling" or something, people could even interact to watch the battle in progress. You could also instance the gyms and wild areas locally so that they wouldn't get congested with other players. The beauty of this would be you could program gyms to scale in accordance to the player's progress (number of badges, team's level - especially as you can only switch your team at a Pokecentre etc.).

As for Pokemon needing to be balanced against each other, I don't think this would be necessary, each trainer would be responsible for the picking and training of their own team, exactly how it works with the handheld games.

I have far too much time to create game ideas...
