i wouldnt be suprised if this was a deliberate move by atlus. given the nature of the game a "flirty" apology would seem like a nice tease to get fans salavating over a possible release.
I already said this 6 times in this thread...how did you not notice?
what makes you think you're worth the effort of trawling through a thread to make sure someone doesnt state the same opinion as you? answer: you arn't. instead you should of said "yeah thats exactly what i think as well freeman! glad you think so too :)" not "ZOMG HOW DIDNT YOU NOTICE MEEEE?!?1".
;) Who said I was,I just felt that the ad of Diakatana and Atlus apology comparison I made is being tragically ignored. Well yeah, glad somebody else is enthusiastic about the picture instead of being all doom and gloom about something a website none of us knew of said. P.S.Did you play the demo of Catherine yet? It's pretty good in terms of gameplay, still don't get the story because I don't speak Japanese

Hey, Atlus? Keep in mind that most of the people who already buy your games would probably be all over this game. Just sayin'.
I am disappoint. Yes, I still like you (You guys make some of the best jRPGs out there), but I am rather upset by this.
Actually Atlus' fanbased is pissed off at the game. It's a different genre that the jrpg fans and other people who like anime storylines spoon fed to them don't really recognize (puzzle) and as a result is way too hard for most people too handle apparently. Altus is taking these complaints very seriously and is in the process of patching the game to be easier.

Google the source. I'd rather not post a possible TOS violation (Sankaku.)

I could never stay angry at Atlus... I have a shelf of my game collection dedicated to them it's right above my Nippon Ichi shelf...

Though I'm still mad that they aren't releasing Catherine state.

I am kinda sad about it. Atlus puts out pretty solid games (Person 3 anyone), and while I realize it would be hard to market a game like Cathrine here, what with the whole Bulletstorm thing going on, it makes me sad that we are missing out on another Japanese only game...yet again.

I wonder what the reaction in America would have been to a game with such overt sexual themes.

...

Oh. Right.

It've sold poorly and would have to be very edited and censored to avoid an AO rating - a death sentence to a video game. The costs of doing all that, marketing it and translating the text and voice is obviously (according to their finance department) greater than their potential profit.

No surprise here.
It would still sell as well as their other games have, and it is already a huge success in Japan (it beat out MvC3 in the first week). I doubt it will get an AO rating. It has a lot to do with Sex and Violence, but it is done in a classful way.
Classy way?

snipped to save space

Our ideas of class are obviously very different.
I think he means in terms of story,it's called an "erotic thriller" for a reason, so yes the advertising imagery is very sexual,I doubt it will go THAT far in the actual game, the game is more about Vincent and his moral and physical dilemmas than making a porno. The ad material and box art is overly sexualized to explain the game somewhat, and when has ANY game have the same box art in different counties. Edit:and the top three pictures are of Catherine suggestively eating a pizza the same way we all do by accident,by ripping the cheese off. Lucky ***** to have not rubber cheese.

Hey,if the court case finishes in our favor before the end of the year,we may have a chance. The case is the only huge issue, everything else is just typical bullshit ranters that are paranoid of everything, the court case is the big thing that would set us back,Catherine being released before the case finishes would destroy our defense like a creeper would destroy your house in Minecraft,I want the game out here, just after this case is over and hopefully is in our favor

Just thought I'd make a thread about this.

This was sent to people subscribed to Atlus's newsletter. This tells me two things.
1. They are hurt and/or shocked about the amount of fan backlash from their decision.
Oh, is THAT what that e-mail was about? The Catherine thing? I got that e-mail, went "huh?!", and deleted it.

Yeah I still like Atlus. I didn't really pay attention to Catherine at all, so release it here, don't release it here, I don't really care either way. What does bother me though, is spam e-mail. Please Atlus, no more pointless e-mails.

I am still hoping to see it come here, but i hadn't heard the news before i noticed the Gouge-your-eyes-out-Pink message from them. So I'm kind of wondering if this may not be some sort of ploy or testing of the waters to see if they could get the game well sold in the US. I know i'd buy it.

From Software made Demon's Souls. Atlus just published it.

...That's all I have to say. I would have edited this into my other post, but I can't see it right now (damn glitches).

From what I've heard from my Japanese board friends (another forum I'm a member of) the game is overtly and even grotesquely sexual. I'm not saying this is a bad or good thing, but the amount of censorship needed would be very, very vast indeed. And that's just to escape an AO rating, let alone getting passed the puritan parents that campaign sexual themes with merit (such as those in Mass Effect, which were the result of going out of your way to form a bond with someone).

If they try, though I highly doubt they will, I wish them luck. They are on hard times as it is... A massive money sink could kill them.

There's nothing wrong with overt sex for sex's sake. Nudity for nudity's sake is fine too. I personally don't seek it out and find it pandering and silly in video games and movies, but there's nothing 'wrong' with it. But try telling that to the rest of the world -_-
Speaking of which,There's Fox News on the horizon, continuing to ruin lives.

Honestly the gameplay for Catherine looked quite lacklustre and disappointing.
As long as the SMT series and various other JRPG's are release, I don't really care.

In the case of the US, based on how uptight people are about violent video games, I am in no way, shape or form surprised that that game won't be released here. It's not the first time sex in a game has freaked people out, it won't be the last. Certain (older-generation) people are fine with violence, but repressed and terrified of sex.
Atlus is smart for not wanting to risk their brand with such a title. In Japan, it's not as big of an issue, in the west (even Europe), it would be.

But no one actually watches Fox News and thinks they are getting serious, honest and unbiased reports... right? We all know it's full of crap, liars and bigots who are not above warping the truth and even inventing things to further their campaign of wholesome, upper-class (white) American beliefs (delusions)... right?
They are one of the highest rated cable shows in the US. O'Reilly's show is the highest rated show on cable (or was). Be afraid for us, very afraid.

We need to take some goddamn action! Otherwise good games with mature themes will never come out here because they are getting wrongly stacked on the same pile as games like Rapelay! (Look it up,and bring brain bleach)

Hey,maybe the west will get the game under a late-June 2011 release. (Supreme court's final decision on games is in June)

An idea just struck me: Atlus is going to be at E3 2011 in June. Maybe that is when they surprise their NA fans? It is a possibility.
