you know, i woulden't understand where he's coming from, even in that situation, why? because, 1the girl said she likes the game, 2-it's the DAD having the issues, not the child. so where IS the problem? if the child either dosen't notice, dosen't care, or understands the context of the situation and finds it funny, then there is NO problem.Phoenix Arrow said:So what's the party line? Slamming the parents for being offended?
For once I'm here to defend something. I can see how the parents might be worried that their child could get upset by this comment. But I don't think the child would be offended by that.
To be honest, some of the comments on this thread are just stupid. Saying that these parents are... let me find one to quote.
Really? Imagine for a moment that you were married, you and your wife couldn't have children so you had to adopt. You'd have to devote your life to making your new child feel welcome, like a part of your family. And then a video game this child is playing starts making fun of orphans.Kevonovitch said:and guys like HIM are raising the up-and-coming generations....well fuck if an apocolypse DOSEN'T happen, someone kill me, please -_-
Can you not understand why a foster parent might be terrified by that? But the guy's clearly a good father, the girl's just turned around and said it's just a joke and I like the game.
Of course, on balance the game is actually complimentary of orphans in the end. And should the guy have gone to the media? No. But I can see where he's coming from.
I 'literally' don't believe that. Especially on the internet."literally the worst thing I could have probably heard."
Its less about "it was in a game, they're not gamers and won't know" and more "seriously, deal with it, what do you think the real world is like?".SteelStallion said:Responses here are so typical, you're all gamers that aggressively defend video games to the death. While it's true that there's nothing really offensive in it save for a few people, I understand that the dad was shocked to hear the remark out of the blue. He didn't say he was hiding it from his daughter, he said it just never came up. He was waiting for an opportune time to sit down and have a talk about her being adopted.
That's why it probably came to such an offensive shock, because now they're going to have to tackle the issue right away since shes heard that, rather than wait for whatever time they might have felt appropriate.
Yes it was such a shock, because it's not like Glados doesn't insult Chell for being adopted in the earlier parts of the game. Hell Glados does it to a much worse degree by outright saying that she's adopted because her biological parents did not lover her and abandoned her. You mean to tell me the guy and his daughter had played all the way up to that point and weren't offended by the earlier comments?SteelStallion said:Responses here are so typical, you're all gamers that aggressively defend video games to the death.
