I'm sure Valve did not intend to offend anyone in their pursuit to characterize the evil computer as being... evil.

I'm adopted and didn't find anything wrong with it. Stop making your child into pussies. If you are adopted, get over it. It was a damn joke.

Isn't the dialogue SUPPOSED to be offensive? Isn't GLaDOS supposed to be TRYING to get under Chell's skin. Well shit, Valve writers, I would take this as a victory. You actually hurt someone's feelings with maliciously constructed dialogue.

Hmm... People need to learn that things said in a game have to do with the game. I find it amusing (and possibly offensive) that they found that offensive but not the fat jokes, the stupidity jokes or anything else in the game. It's quite hypocritical that they are so angry with the adoption jokes but not the rest of them. And there are many more jokes about weight and intelligence than those two minutes where the adoption insults are flung.

"If you're not an adoptive parent it's probably not that big a deal to you."

What? Are non-adoptive parents not good enough to be offended by video-game jokes?
I take offence to that.

It doesn't seem they're suing, so honestly, I have no real problem with this.

I mean, just because someone is offended doesn't automatically make something controversial.

This really goes to show that people will go out of their way to be offended by anything. Hell, I have spina bifida. I'm in a wheelchair. And I thought Cave Johnson's quip about ramps being expensive was hilarious.

God forbid he ever sends his child to school if taunting like that is likely to affect her...
Cant really put it better than this. In fact, I feel partly ashamed to even comment on this topic. It doesnt deserve an ounce of publicity.

That's funny, because I had my adopted sister play Portal 2, and do you know what she did when GLaDOS/Wheatley said those things?

SHE FUCKING LAUGHED. Harder than I've ever seen her laugh before. She said, in her own words, "Its like they wrote that joke just for me!"

Somebody needs a sense of humor.

Wait, so you're telling me from the time their daughter understood the english language she never knew what the word adopted meant or ever heard it and it's meaning before from any other type of media or public setting? It was going to happen one way or another and I'm hoping they would of have reacted the same way if it wasn't a video game.

I dont think thats the worst thing you could have heard. If Valve was really out to hurt orpahns (or lets just say this family in particular) they could have had a racial slur for chinese instead of calling you a fatty orphan.

.... Not that I think Valve is trying to do that.

Anyway, yeah. Id ont know, I think its dumb to be mad about this, but then again, thats just me (I wasnt adopted, but thats not really why I think this is dumb). I'm pretty sure when your daughter's ten, doesnt look anything like you, and isnt blind, there isnt alot to talk about.

Not that there's anything wrong iwth adopting.

So I guess they were too offended to hear GLADOS a moment later when she retorts:
"What exactly is wrong with being adopted?"
And the orb of stupidity then goes onto reply:
"Some of my best friends are actually orphans"...

I guess if your going to argue something ridiculous you might as well do it deaf, blind, and dumb; because apparently they were perfectly okay with the orphan and your parents do not love you comments that GLADOS made during the first third of the game.

I understand the need for consideration for people's feelings, but seriously?

I am literally incapable of feeling sympathy for that family. At all. How great must their life be, how smooth is their fucking sailing, when THAT is what they find offensive.

A large portion of my life, like most people's lives, is shit. This isn't a horrible catastrophy or war crime or human rights violation. This isn't even remotely close to being that serious. So why does he, or anyone else, think we care?

I feel for the man and his daughter, but that's just plain funny. That should be part of their Portal 2 commercial.
It actually appeared on Steam news and Valve had a good laugh. :p
The daughter and another kid would be playing the game and when the voice said "...and you're adopted." the other kid would just be like "See! I told you!".

Best commercial ever.
