Alarm clock suggestions?

I usually use my cell phone as the alarm clock. If not that *random girl* usually texts me every morning while she waits for the city bus to come by. So Im awake by 7:30 in class by 8:30.

Yes, the serotonin levels are affected by light, especially sunlight. One idea is to not use curtains before going to bed, that way when the sun rises and shines through your window your body will be affected by the sunlight and you will have an easier time waking up.

If that's the same as the sonic bomb I've got it's over 100 decibels isn't it? Plus it has a buzzer that goes under your matress or pillow. And yes, I have managed to sleep through it on several occasions.

Something that works for me is using my phone but changing the alarm noise fairly often so it is an unfamiliar sound.

This is also a very good idea.

Definitely try that. I had getting up issues for years until I got such a mean alarm clock.
Has a thing to put under your pillow that shakes you, and if i remember correctly mine also can reach 78 decibels at its maximum setting and can adjust the pitch to something suitably annoying. It even has a strobe light lol. First time i used it I had it set to its maximum settings, I almost had a heart attack was just so disorientated n confused but awake lol

Another bit of advice, use gentler alarms like your DS near your bed and put the louder ones (set about 5 mins after the quiet ones) far far from your bed so you have no choice but to get out of bed n walk quite a distance to reach them. Then the only thing you have to do is not under any circumstances sit on or go near your bed until you get home in the evening.

The normal min is 8 hours by the way.

Set your clocks really loud and far from your bed. My old English teacher said she did that.

Set the one on your phone for 2 hours before you wake up, the one on your DS for an hour before you wake up and the one on your regular alarm for half an hour before you wake up.
If your phone also has a "recuring alarm" setting, set that one for 15 mins before you wake up.

Also, if your phone plays music, choose a really annoying song for your alarm, or one that gets you pumped up, or one you really enjoy. e.g. I used to use a Beyonce song cos it pissed me off, but that stopped working cos I started to like it (grrr!), then I moved onto a song by Slipknot, cos it gets the blood pumping, but I also became immune to that. So now I use Johnny Cash because I like the song and tend to listen to it the whole way through, so I'm fully awake by the time it's done.
Oh, and change the alarm regularly, or get someone to pick a random song for you, cos you're more likely to wake up to a sound you were not expecting/used to than one that feels familiar.

I installed an alarm on my computer that goes "woowoooowooo" like an ambulance (you can set it to any song on your HD though), and I turn the volume up to 50% of what my speakers can do... Seems to work fine.

My boyfriend's alarm sounds like an alart call you'd hear if you messed up stealth killing somone in Metal Gear. It's a definite waker upper.

I use the sound of quacking ducks to wake me up. It actually works because ducks have VERY annoying quacks and it gets me up in the morning.
I would also suggest rolling out of bed and flipping on lights! The more lights you flip on, the more awake you'll be! :)

Are you sure you're sleeping through them and not just turning them of in your sleep? Because if you are, try putting them in different locations in your room, so that you have to get up to turn them of.

How old are you? Until I was about 25, sleep was the best narcotic in the world. I'm 29 now, and sleep is still great, but as I've gotten older, I don't need sleep as much.
Sleep is still an intoxicating drug, but it's hard to sleep 12 hours a day and still be tired. I can't sleep more than 7 hours a day (night?) now.

I could only suggest, one, get older, two, sleep in different places.

Two, because sleep is a state of consciousness (it's why you don't fall out of your bed at night) so if you're a heavy sleeper, you need to sleep with someone to wake you up or you need to sleep in different places because our minds typically make us a little more alert and we have a harder time sleeping.

The recommended sleep time is 7-9 hours. If you sleep less than 7 you will be under-sleeping, and over 9 you will be oversleeping; in both cases tiredness will set in. Aim for 8 hours a night, 6 isn't enough.

I have a set sequence of ringtones that I use for this situation.

Level 1: Thunderclap with rain.
Level 2: Opening to War of the Worlds.
Level 3: The Hunter "Scream" from Left 4 Dead.

If I'm not awake by level 3, I'm not getting up.

Get more sleep. I find that if I get less than 10h and more the 7h I will wake up to the slightest noise, whereas, if I sleep for less than 7h good luck waking me.

Well, the absolute minimum is four hours of sleep a night.

My alarm is the doctor's ring tone from Crank and Crank 2. I'm used to going to sleep when it's dead silent, so that alone wakes me up.

If you oversleep by hours that is what is causing you to feel tired when you get up, because during your sleep you toss and turn all night and that can just wear you out, get like three alarm clocks put them all on for about a half hour before you have to get up, put them really close to your ears and well you see where I'm going with this.

I've never needed an alarm clock to wake up. But I'm a pretty light sleeper so I usually wake up whenever the sun comes out enough. I can't get to sleep if there's a mildly bright light in my room. I once had a clock with big, bright blue digits and I couldn't get to sleep with it on because I could see the light through my eyelids.

Good point, but if a person really needs that to wake them up, maybe they should just go to bed earlier.. =|
