hmm, people who have as much trouble as you seem to be having waking up in the morning tend to have some kind of medical problem are a sign that you are not getting good quality sleep.

How old is your bedding and matress? Maybe it is time for a change.

Get the noisiest most annoying alarm clock you can find. The little digital things on phones just do not cut it. You need a big bad alarm clock with all the bells and whistles to scream at you. Get two, one beside your pillow and the other across the room.

I have three alarm clockes set at 10 minite intervals, with snooze, positioned in differnt parts of the room...I am not good at getting out of bed either

Just a bit.
But hey, there is no way you're going to sleep through it.
Good point, but if a person really needs that to wake them up, maybe they should just go to bed earlier.. =|
This is true.
There is a "but" here, too, though.
If you get to sleep earlier, you don't get the sheer awesome points that you would if you used that alarm clock.
No brain damage either, but still.
Awesome points.

All right!
*dances*
Oddly enough, awesome points, when combined with some degree of logic, can actually move mountains.

So for the last few weeks I seem to be failing at waking up on time. I use no less that three alarms (a radio alarm, my phone and my DS) but I sleep through all of 'em. It's come to a point where I need to rely on someone else to wake me up otherwise I miss appointments and classes.

So what do you guys think?.

I meet the daily minimum hours of sleep (around 6 hrs) but I keep waking up tired and late. Am I doomed to never be able to wake up on time for anything?. I've heard that different alarms can help in waking up "heavy sleepers" and that keeping the alarm close to you will help..but alas, even today I woke up 40 minutes late for my dentist appointment.
I've got 5-6 going off in the morning from 7:30 up to 9:00, each with a snooze setting set too various times (between 3-10mins).

I hate waking up :(

If you really want to have a serious alarm clock...
That seems dangerous... o_O
I agree..I think I shall file that under my "worst case scenario" tools. I mean..imagine if that was connected to the Fire Alarm system. Goll-ee!

As everyone has said, you should be aiming for 8 hours a night. If you are oversleeping or sleeping right through your alarms, then you need to go to bed earlier. There isn't a point where you "get used" to sleeping so little, your body just literally needs more time.

As you are now, you are conditioning yourself to sleep through multiple loud noises.

I usually end up pulling late night shifts at the pub that end at 3am during most weeks and coupled that with 8am lectures that I attend means that an 8hr nap is way out of my schedule (I do manage this on weekends though) but even if I do get consecutive eight hours of sleep I still end up oversleeping or walking up feeling exhausted.

Perhaps these winter holidays might come in handy for me to readjust my body clock back to normal hours.

well... build and incredible machine that at set time in the alarm clock it drops a buket filled with wather in your head

make it so that the bottom gets down first to maximize the waking effects haha

You could try doing things like wearing sunglasses in the afternoon to reprogram your body clock and taking short naps when you can. Sleeping 6 hours might work for some people but for others it is a brutal regime that can hurt your health and ability to concentrate.

i've got a timex alarm clock i bought about 3 month ago and it's got an adjustable alarm on it. loud for people like me and soft for normal people...
before i bought it i would have to set 2 alarm clocks (my phone with a very loud digital ring setting and the other which wasn't always reliable). since buying the one, i never hafta use my phone's alarm for the morning. the alarm clock is just as loud in the kitchen as it is on the nightstand next to my bed (yes, i live in a tiny flat, but hey, sound don't normally travel around corners well and this does so :p) but i was like you, sleep thru anything, and this helped me out greatly

I use G-Alarm on my windows mobile - it has the option for a logic puzzle or "guide a ball through a maze" to ensure you're awake before you turn it off.

Personally I don't need the feature - what I like is the shake-to-snooze where it uses the phones accelerometer to know when you're shaking it and goes into a five min snooze.

You can also use the "face detector" on the front so turning the phone over onto its front puts it into snooze too.

Great array of choices :D

Lol...that's going to be electrifying.

Or I'll hear the rodent go "pika!" all the time and keep thinking about his annoying down + B attack on SSBB. Grr!. But yeah..that might just get me up on time.

Daily minimum is 8 hours.

Try that.
Um, I'm keeping my GCSEs under control on 3 hours a night at best.

Not that I enjoy contradicting people or anything...
