Alien Prequel Confirmed

Producer Tony Scott has confirmed that a new Alien film is in the pipeline, and that it's a prequel to the original movie.

LV-426; a rocky planetoid orbiting the gas giant Calpamos, in the Zeta2 Reticuli system, 37 light years from Earth, and the crucial site of Alien, the first installment of one of the most successful and iconic science-fiction franchises in cinema history. But Alien left plenty of questions unanswered. Who was the strange alien pilot that the crew of the Nostromo discovered, and where did he pick up the xenomorph that undoubtedly killed him and caused him to crash?

Well, now these questions might just get answered as producer Tony Scott, brother of Alien director Ridley Scott, has confirmed the rumors that a prequel to Alien was being made. At the helm of the new film is director Carl Rinsch, one of the directors at the Scott brothers' production company Scott Free Productions. Rinsch's previous work is apparently comprised entirely of two short black & white films, but in a brief interview with Collider [http://www.collider.com/2009/05/29/exclusive-tony-scott-confirms-carl-rinsch-is-directing-alien-and-its-a-prequel/], Tony Scott seemed to have considerable faith in him, saying "I'm excited cause Ridley created the original and Carl Rinsch is one of the family."

Still haven't seen a whole Aliens film, my attention span wasn't long enough to get anywhere in the first one. I only ever catch the second half of the one with the Guy from CSI, and I saw the end of one were and alien got sucked out a pea sized hole into space.

Oh thank god it's not a remake.

Now my brother won't yell at me in order to express his rage.

What the hell..

This will make all those Alien clones look like original...

Get new ideas! Not every remake/reboot is Battlestar Galactica/Batman...

Some are Superman Returns...

I was thinking the same thing...if it was a remake, I'd have to shout at someone innocent to clear my anger.

just like the terminator films, there is absolutely no reason this series should have any more films. ressurection was one step too far, and making yet another film is just gonna be twisting the knife. really, what is the point in this being made?

If this film turns out good I will personally genetically engineer* the first facehugger and cause the apocalypse by being it's victim.

*I'm making a prediction, the plot twist is Humans created the Xenomorphs...

Wouldn't fit the AvP (movies) story. Anyway, more sci-fi makes me happy. True it might suck but so might any film.

To make money. Following your logic we shouldn't have entertainment in general because there's absolutely no reason for it and we should just toil like slaves until we collapse from exhaustion and eat just enough tasteless nutrient paste to continue that lifestyle.

I'd rather keep having entertainment and to me the entertainment value of a product is more important than its originality.

No, no, NO!! Goddamn it, we don't want you to keep slaughtering, raping and defiling the Alien franchise!

Apparently someone needs a facehugger thrown at them.

Theyll find a way to fit it round AvP. You're forgetting the four plot devices of shitty movies.

Fate, Destiny, Alternate Dimensions and Time Travel.

Ha, I just watched Back to the Future Part II (Fate? Destiny?).

But you must admit that despite the variety of quality and production teams among the Alien and Predator movies that the universe has remained remarkably consistent in continuity.

Reading the negative comments, one thought springs to mind.
Wait... how would a new movie taint the old ones? Can't you just... you know... watch the old ones again and they still be good?
Seriously. Just a new movie. Stop complaining about it, it will simply be judged on its own merits if its been a while.
