Wait... how would a new movie taint the old ones? Can't you just... you know... watch the old ones again and they still be good?
Seriously. Just a new movie. Stop complaining about it, it will simply be judged on its own merits if its been a while.
No. Cause people that never seen Alien, will likely to see this one and if it turns out to be the worst thing ever, people will just declare Alien=Shit.

Just like they doing with the whole Aliens versus Predator franchise.

Common knowledge.

Also theres no reason to bring back Alien.

just like the terminator films, there is absolutely no reason this series should have any more films. ressurection was one step too far, and making yet another film is just gonna be twisting the knife. really, what is the point in this being made?
Resurrection was god awful. 90s film-making trash. Then again, the franchise hit its peak with Aliens and just went downhill from there. The one thing that makes me excited for the prequel is that Ridley Scott's company is involved and that the secret of the jockey is revealed.

1.) Who the hell hasn't seen Alien
2.) Those types of people are fucking stupid
3.) At the end of the day, its just entertainment
4.) In the end, only the fanboys will see it anyway.
5.) The people will hear the fanboys talk about how good the originals were, and see those which is what happened to me with Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Terminator.

Still haven't seen a whole Aliens film, my attention span wasn't long enough to get anywhere in the first one. I only ever catch the second half of the one with the Guy from CSI, and I saw the end of one were and alien got sucked out a pea sized hole into space.

Awesommmmme. Also, considering that the brother of the guy who made the original Aliens is going to be doing this, I have great confidence that he will not utterly destroy his own brothers works.

Well, so far the Alien series has been nothing but good (in my opinion).

Alien 3 was my favorite.
Really? I thought that was the worst one, mainly due to the plot holes and lousy character development... though it did have the most awesome ending of all the films.

The huggers work on you regardless of sex: see Alien Ressurection, where a male scientist got the chest-bursting suprise.

Also, I'm getting irked with all these remakes. While it's cool seeing some nostalgia love, can't we get some new movies out there?

And thats as preposerous as sticking your tongue in a toaster.

The Predators have been using the Aliens as game for centuries before Humans could grasp the idea of a toilet, nevermind interstellar travel. Unless they introduce time travel into the franchise...at which point I will lose faith in humanity and hang myself.
I direct you to this:

Because there are still suckers out there willing to pay for it. Same reason every other aging movie franchise gets unneeded sequels/remakes/reboots. The ironic thing is that most of us who complain about this movie getting made will ultimately go see it anyway. I probably will....er, well...I'll at least save it to my Netflix queue.

Make sure you see the special cut of Alien 3. David Fincher (the director) was absolutely horrified at the edits made to the original version, so much so I hear he stormed out of the studio. The original cut has a lot more character development and such. One thing I love about Alien 3 is how well it manages to further the story of the series without ever degenerating into steriotype or ridiculous attempts at "upping the ante" (see Aliens, which decided the only thing scarier than one Alien against a helpless crew was a billion aliens against macho marines armed with pulse rifles.)

Alien 3, however, puts a new spin on things by going back to the roots in many ways while inserting a new twist.
The main character wants to be killed, but the main horror villain refuses to kill her Not many horror movies do THAT.

Oh, and I don't feel like putting a quote wall up here any more than I already am, but I'd just like to add that I don't consider the Alien vs Predator movies a part of the Alien series at all. When I said "all the Alien movies are good," I meant Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection are good. Crossover movies don't count in my book.

Snip about Alien^3.
This special version is the one I want to see? In the version I saw, here's how things went:

1) We had a illogical beginning: a egg wound up inside the ship somehow, even though there was no way it could have got there.

2) Ripley lands on the planet, and has about two talks with Mr.Doctor before she goes: Hey! Let's fuck! There's no real adequate reason for it, it just happens.

3) Almost immediately after their cuddle session, Mr.Doctor gets the air vent treatment. Ripley takes this REMARKABLY WELL, to the point where it's absurd. It's like she never gave a shit about him!

4) Ripley was somehow infected, even though the glass on the pod wasn't broken? Whuh? It doesn't make sense, though it was cool.

If your "original" version changes these things, I'd be more than willing to track it down.

Also, I thought that AVP Ressurection had a neat idea: it showed us what would happen if the Aliens DID reach Earth, something that the Alien movies never really explored. Hint hint: it was a BAD DAY for the humies all around.

Neat-o. Although for me this is overshadowed by the fact that I read yesterday about the Ghostbusters 3 movie in production.

We'll finally find out where the space jockey came from and if the Aliens where really build is biological weapons that got out of control. Can't wait for this one. XD
This is copied and pasted from Wikipedia about the Space Jockey in the novelization:

"The Space Jockey is discovered in Alien when the commercial starship Nostromo sets down on the unsurveyed moon LV-426 to investigate an unknown signal. The crew finds a crashed derelict spacecraft with its fossilized pilot -- the Space Jockey -- inside.

The derelict ship contains several thousand alien eggs. Scott suggests in his Alien DVD commentary that the Jockey's ship was a "bomber": alien eggs could be dropped on an enemy planet, and the aliens would proceed to kill the population as they spawned. According to Cameron, the Space Jockey's craft picked up alien eggs and the pilot became infected by the dangerous cargo; the ship landed on LV-426 and the Space Jockey transmitted the signal as a warning.[1] John Mollo and Ron Cobb's "The Alien Portfolio" and Alan Dean Foster's novelization of Alien state the Space Jockey encountered the aliens on LV-426.

In Foster's Alien novelization, Ash describes the Space Jockey's race as a noble people and hopes that mankind will encounter them under more pleasant circumstances. It also states that they were larger, stronger and possibly more intelligent than humans. Foster's novelization states that the Jockey was trying to warn humans away from the aliens."

I wonder if they'll stick with that or do something entirely different with them.

Okay, here's what I think changed in the Director's Cut:

1. Prison inmates actually have character development. Especially the extremely religious black guy. I'd be more specific but I really can't remember his name. Ripley develops actual friendships with some of the characters.

2. The feeling of jumping around from place to place is lessened. Oh, and the plot holes? I wouldn't say they're gone completely, but I'm pretty sure some of it isn't as bad. I assume, for example, that a Facehugger somehow got on the ship (sadly, this isn't explained so well). I would chalk Ripley's indifference to the doctor's death up to a case of her already having accepted that EVERYONE was gonna probably die. She's used to it by now. If she can watch her almost-daughter from Aliens be autopsied (Alien 3, not sure if this is additional footage or not) and see her crew die in the original, she can handle having a sex buddy get killed.

Anyway, I recommend checking into it again, but no rush. I really don't see the appeal of Aliens, though. Sure, it started many of the SF horror cliches we have today, but... Meh. It's a good movie because of everyone BUT the marines. I really didn't care for them at all, and was pretty happy to see them die. I also didn't care for the cannon fodder approach Mr. Cameron took with the iconic Alien character. I didn't realize this was Dynasty Warriors with guns, here.

Ah, I can understand your dislike for the cannon fodder approach, but you have to think that's actually what WOULD happen most of the time. I mean, having the one alien in Alien^3 was a nice touch, but at the same time having the mass battles is a cool idea. Perhaps they just need someone who knows how to handle large-scale war scenes to take over if they decide to do that again?

All I'm saying is, with proper execution we could have good results. Sure, most of the marines were assholes, but that last guy was actually pretty cool while being militaristic at the same time.

And while I see your point about Ripley being detached, she should still have shown more emotion than a porcelain doll after that, especially since it looked like she was finally becoming more human till that moment.

I got the Alien and Predator Total Destruction Collection, which has all the movies. I'll have to check to see if my Alien^3 disc has the DC on it.
