Oh no! Now where will I get my dose of trashy, trailer-park-reject, tatted-and-pierced girls who look like they're on meth?

Oh. Right. I live in Reno. I can take a bus downtown and see all the tatted-up meth heads I could ever want to see in one lifetime every single day!

Also, I carded a woman once when I worked at the liquor store as she looked borderline 18 to me, she got all huffy and showed me her driver's licence...and she was 36, lol.

It's not an easy thing to do, all you can do is show that you're doing you best to prevent underage sales.
A woman was spiteful you said she looked 18 years younger? Huh.

OT: I sincerely hope they weren't actually doing so, but I'm doubtful since the evidence brought up is entirely ridiculous.
Yeah, I always thought that's exactly what women wanted to hear, but it seems asking her to reach into her wallet for a second time for 5 seconds was far too much effort, just to lessen teenage alcohol abuse.

What surprises me is the vitriol some people in this thread spew at these girls.

Did one of them kill your dog, or did they just not answer your fan-mail? Did you catch your boy/girlfriend touching themselves to a pinup with tattoos? Or are you redirecting the self loathing you feel after spanking it in the dark?

As to whether they're (individually or collectively) attractive: not being a slave to the conventional idea of beauty is pretty much their mission statement. Not everyone likes vanilla.

OT: Even if the allegations are true, this seems like an overreaction on the part of Comic-Con. There had to be other ways, quiet ways, of handling this.

That said, I doubt a lot of people are going to boycott Comic-Con over the issue.

I don't think it's an overreaction actually. What this does is quietly enforce the fact that the girls have to card next year. They would NOT want to screw this up two years in a row. Especially when Comic-con gives them such an influence.

Besides, they have to enforce that policy. Imagine what would happen if a 6'0 12 year old with a beard got a poster that his mother didn't want.

That'd be funny as all hell... Seriously.

They shouldn't even discuss the matter, people involved in porn can G.T.F.O. and stay away from conventions that are for people with normal interests.

I'm connected with a convention myself so I know these situations (not saying which one just to be safe)

However I'm assuming there would be more then just the guy claiming he saw the under 18 year old purchasing porn from them, I'm willing to bet they also received complaints which they aren't talking about for obvious reasons. (parents say "our kid got this at your con WTF!")

Any complaint MUST be taken seriously and if the complaint can be backed up by a member of the board actually SEEING it happen then if they continue to turn a blind eye that is a VERY DANGEROUS legal thing to do. It's also bad PR too.

Plus as a regular at other conventions as well I have noticed that some traders don't ask for any proof of age, they are just happy to make a sale.

Sorry for the double post... but you actually just described one of the attendees at our convention. People refused to believe he was the age he claimed to be until he pulled out ID

a member of Comic-Con International's Board of Directors reportedly was able to purchase a DVD at a recent WonderCon without having his ID checked, and says he saw the same thing happen with someone that was under 18
If he's in the board of directors, chances are he's much older than 18 and it's visible, that's probably why they didn't check for ID.

If I were her I would have been sort of glad (and also very awkward). I mean, being mistaken to be 18 at age 36, who would have a problem with that?

And from the story, it seems like the guys running Comic Con were too quick to judge here. I mean, a few reports of underage sales, and someone thought he saw them selling porn to minors. I mean, I understand that they don't want to get Comic Con shut down over illegal activities, but wouldn't it be a good idea to maybe look into the problem or investigate a bit more before outright banning them?
