The Alpha/Beta male "theory" (and I use this term very, very loosely) is a crock of crap. It is absolute horseshit and is incredibly sexist to those of both genders. I place it in the same mental area I put hollow earth theories, birtherism, fake moon landing theories, and other elements of mental detritus: the garbage dump of stupid.

Strangely enough, the "alpha male" stereotype typically does not take on a leadership role, at least not in high levels of management. Alpha male types are typically too aggressive in their approach to operate on a corporate or larger scale. Those tend to be more the "smooth operators", men exhibiting shockingly feminine attributes in order to corral and direct both alpha and beta males (referred to professionally as "passive aggressive" and "passive dependent", respectively, though not limited to males), as well as many other personality types.

It's a silly concept and no one on the planet should lend any thought to it beyond "That's fucking stupid"

Anyone with any knowledge knows that human beings, success, and social interactions are UNBELIEVABLY complicated and that it's nonsensical to think they can be reduced to 2 simple categories. Or any number of categories.

Furthermore, even if we COULD simplify it like that, the order is all wrong.

Most success doesn't come as a result of dominant personality. There are plenty of dominant frat boys and rednecks that have done nothing in their lives. Confidence comes as a result of success.

In terms of women, you could argue that a dominant personality attracts, but again, a person who is successful with women becomes confident and thus more dominant.

Finally, in terms of the "born to win" concept, it's Nature vs Nurture and there is enough debate that it's impossible to definitively say either is more important.

Typically only egotistical scubs who can get chicks easily define themselves from this manner. Proper pickup artists or players who don't involve their egos know that pulling women is just a skill set, a part trick, something cool they can do, not something to define themselves by. Those guys are the true alpha males

My thoughts? I think you're getting you're definition of gender identity from 4chan.

Yeah. I don't particularly feel the need to further explain my feelings on the matter.

1. I am of the male persuasion, and I honestly do not give even a single flying fornication about all this alpha/beta talk, if pressed, I woulc have to identify as alpha though.
- I am tall
- I have a deep voice
- Chances are my hair will start greying very soon (thinkg silverback)

2.
Bill Gates was not a "beta". That man had almost everything going for him, succesful parents, a great education, and most importantly, he is probably a lot smarter than all of us here. The man is a genius who built one of the largest corporations ever.

Doesn't it mostly boil down to self confidence when it comes to material girls? At least when it comes to first impressions (which is the most important part in my opinion).

It's easy to be self confident when you're successful.

It seems to me like just more random societal labels.

That kind of thinking seems like it would lead to things like depression and suicide. I don't feel like condoning something like that.

"The alpha male is an act that is performed by males usually in their teens and twenties who act tough, are loud, and have to be the center of attention or they feel insecure. When a man is successful and in his thirties he no longer acts this way because he has grown up and realized that the entire alpha male act is phony. When was the last time you saw a rich, successful man try to pick a fight??? Never. The only guys that do this are the losers that go to bars to take their anger out because they are angry inside for going nowhere in life."

Heh heh, thank you for that gem Urban Dicitionary. I think the concept has about as much scientific veracity as your average X will give you cancer Daily Mail article and appears to be nothing more than unsubstantiated, self-aggrandising pop-psychology bullshit, so you can call me a Gamma Male for all I fucking care.

This whole alpha crap always felt like trying to rationally explain why everything was better in the good old days when women were objects to be taken and a mans worth was directly proportional to his ability to punch people/to have people who punch people for him.

Also: real alphas can set stuff on fire by touching it

No matter how hard you think about bullshit you still get bullshit, this has about as much to do with Social Psychology as astrology as to do with astronomy.
If you want a run down on why certain personalities do well in certain situations read a text book or scholarly article, it certainly has nothing to do with being born a "winner".

Personally I'm a delta male because fuck the common Greek letters.

As others have already sais the divison between beta and alpha is idiotic. Yes, some are more successful and some are better in leadership positions and to take the initiative. However by this ruling you could probably call me both a beta and an alpha based on the circumstances.

Alpha and beta seems to set in dividing two extremes, but a massive amount are in the middle.

I could probably go into more length in this, but it's been said before and I'm typing on an iPad which kinda limits how much effort I am willing to put into writing.

Well, as the "you" participant I have to say: Keep your Alpha and Beta male bullshit away from me. If you try getting my attention with it, you'd better be a freaking zoologist.

I think human sexuality and attraction is too complex and diverse to cram into such arbitrary catagories.

every person is different, and in that we are equal.

The alpha/beta bullshit on the internet is just a gross perversion of a general personality test.
One you have to go through during when you get elected in our military for higher ranks.

And it basically only says how much of a leader someone generally is. Aka Alpha's are those people who start givin' commands to a group intuitively, even when they don't or hardly know the group (People the military want as sergants). Betas do it less and mainly support alphas doing their job - that all.
Omega's are the more "incapable" ones and then there was something with Delta, who would like to be like the Alpha, and they'll have confrontations.

As if life is that easy.
