Sex is a part of life, games imitate life at the most basic levels, there's nothing more basic than sex.

Anyway, I'm not complaining... I just hope I don't have to sit through five minutes of soft-core faux orgasms.
No, killing is the most natural thing ever.
Everything in nature kills, even if it doesn't do it directly.
They're both vital processes in nature, all animals can fuck, and all animals can kill.

What like Terminator tasteful yet satisfying*, or Stardust tasteful yet satisfying?**

* - Where we get the full effect but it is crucial to the plot and sincere
** - Where it is an implied thing and we dont get to watch, but okay because the whole true love thing was done really well.

Or will it be tasteful yet unsatisfying, like Leaving Las Vegas
Where Elizabeth Shue realizes that she's been fucking Nicholas Cage's corpse, suffering from rigormortis
Or tasteless but sasitfying like Fight Club, which was stylish and plot crucial, but also pretty tasteless.
Or tasteless and unsatisfying like Crank which was basically just an excuse to sneak some Amy Smart porn into a dumb action movie.

Or just plain haunting like Jennifer Connoly's ass to ass scene in Requium for a Dream .
I'm impressed by your knowledge of movie sex scenes, seriously.

On-topic: What I find really funny is that they would find a flash of nudity untasteful, but in the trailer your can see how they drop a guy from the top of a building, with a grenade pushed in his mouth, to explode into bits and pieces when he hits the ground. Is that their idea of tasteful? I would rather see a sex scene where the protagonists puts on his protection, than using useless violence. If they really want to create publicity, wouldn't that be much better? Instead of "Playing Games results into violence!" you would get "Game teaches how to practice safe sex!".

I don't know. I'm trying to look at this from a marketing standpoint and it just really doesn't seem that necessary or useful at all to sales. You could probably attract a few perverts with it but will the sex stuff itself be really all that satisfying? I think it would turn away more people in the US then it would draw. Not only would I think that people would not buy the game for that they would also then refuse to buy any more games by that company. Quite frankly I see this whole sex thing becoming more fodder for some people to preach how evil video games are. I think it's all fine and dandy for developers to be able to put as much input into their own game as they want, but they really need to think hard about OVERALL sales and appeal to as much of a crowd as they possibly can get.

A tree grows and kills the flowers that otherwise would've survived, but are now starved of sunlight.

Also, I really wish people would stop calling me emo.
It's obnoxious, and I don't even own a pair of girl pants.
Yes, even jokingly.
I think it has to do with the fact that you had that emo-looking (IMO) Greenday avatar for quite a long time. I still see that avatar in my head whenever I read one of your posts. Then again I need to associate a face to every personality, so that may have something to do with it.

Edit: And congrats on the 10,000 posts. I just noticed it.

On Topic:
If they want to include sex into games, all the power to them. It's their choice, and honestly I think at least in the US it will negatively impact their sales. Sadly many people can seem to get over the concept of treating sex openly and honestly.

Should it be in games? Only if the dev's want it to. Do games (so far) treat sex honestly? Not really. Should it be banned from games? Never, they should have the freedom to make what they want, as we have the freedom to play what we want.

Anyway, I'm just saying that killing is awesome and sex is not.
Especially in a video game about murdering dudes.
But sex and violence... hand in hand? Anywhere. I dare you to find a violent film/video game/book that doesn't feature sex of some sort.

FOX NEW ANGRY!!!! FOX NEW SMASH!!!!

hehehe another Jack Thompson scapegoat
Jack Thompson was one of the only people to state that the whole Mass Effect nude scene scandal was totally blown out of proportion, so he really shouldn't have a problem with this.

Then again, he is Jack Thompson...

Games with sex scenes is starting to become a stamp, like American films including a romantic subplot in everything.

It was fun when it was new and controversial, but now it's just stale and overdone.

I like Green Day.
Emo is a whole 'nother genre - pop-punk =/= emo, no matter what it looks like.

Thanks.

I'm open and honest about my dislike for sex!
Pay attention to meeeee! /sob

But I do agree - as long as it remains optional, I guess I don't care overmuch. And maybe it'll help mature the medium, though I doubt it.
Especially when every company advertises it like this.
So wait you want people not to call you Emo then you make posts like that?

As for the tree -> flower death chart. That's a highly unlikely scenario.

A) No plant would grow beneath a tree that has blotted out enough sun to kill it.
B) No plant lives long enough for a tree that is not yet blotting out its sun to blot out its sun.

Note: I would accept that passively one tree can *kill* another tree because it can outgrow the tree. Though I don't agree that it is killing it, for various reasons most of which I'd hope would be obvious. A Venus Fly Trap kills things, a Tree merely grows.

But like I said, there is certainly some convoluted way that everything results in the death of everything else because in a convoluted way everything has an effect on everything else. At the smallest level we all exhibit some form of gravity on all other objects in the universe. However we are getting into some mighty small effects here.

I want games to be true to themselves. If they feel that X is proper for their product then I think they should add X. If X ends up being done terribly well that wasn't X's fault that was the fault of the implementers.

Is it just me or does Alpha Protocol seem like Obsidian's attempt to create their own Mass Effect...

Not that I would consider that a bad thing, in fact more power to them.

The similarities are pretty intense though, in my opinion.
Obsidian has always been making games that are almost....tributes to Bioware games. They did KOTOR 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2; both of which were sequels to Bioware games.

Obsidian are excellent developers, they just aren't too hot with ideas. They're also making Fallout: New Vegas as their tribute to Bethesda.
Beats me. I played NWN 2 and my brain shit itself out through my eyes. That was one of the worst sequels (or tribute sequels) that I have ever played. Not the worst but up on the top 10.

However I didn't mind KOTOR 2 but I also never played KOTOR 1 (just never got around to it).

I wasn't as clear as I should have been. I wasn't calling Greenday emo, but rather saying that the picture looked a bit stereotypicaly emo, with the dyed black hair and eye makeup. I'm not using emo as a negative, just as a description.

I actually love Greenday as well, but In my opinion...
was much better than...

That's just my opinion though. I tend to not care for politically fueled art as much as others. I grew up listening to Dookie though, so I'm a bit biased against the change in Greenday's sound.

Ya, that goes along with what I said about current developers not being honest about it, and yeah, I think it should always at least be optional. Too bad though. Games like GTA seem to be a step back for the industry in the field of maturity concerning sex. And I choose to not play GTA more for the glorifying of shooting the police and hookers than for the unnecessary and immature sexual content.

We'll get there one day... (Mass Effect handled itself quite well I think)

I think that there will be hardcore sexscenes in this game considering that everything the game industry denies happens anyway.

So I'm told. One of these days if I catch it on sale (and have a job...just about to graduate...what timing) I'll grab it.

I know, right? They're absolutely terrible [http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/starwarsknightsoftheoldrepublic2?q=Knights%20of%20the%20Old%20Republic] games [http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/neverwinternights2?q=Neverwinter%20nights].

To elaborate, KotOR2 and NWN2 were both solid RPGs and if you can't see that then you're clearly lacking in some vision.

God, must everything contain a sex scene?

Oh, whatever.
Haven't you turned on the TV in a while? Or been to a movie? Or seen a shampoo AD or read a magazine? x_x Every time I see a movie with a "love making" scene in it I wanna keel over. They're in everything anymore and it's never even relevant to what's going on in the movie/show. They just...go at it like rabbits. I makes me sick. D:

Why do games feel the need to include sex nowadays? We don't really care...
