See, you're doing it again. You're assuming that you and only you know what you're talking about. I'm quite aware of what socialism is, in fact I probably understand it better than you do, guy.
And the reason I have a problem with you is because you're as arrogant as you are mendacious. Every post of yours is like a cheese grater to the scrote because the egomania is just that overbearing.
Why'd you respond in this way (listing things that aren't socialism) if you knew what socialism is? Socialism isn't some complex concept, don't know why you're trying to one-up someone on the definition of a basic word. We are for very much of the same things yet you can't even admit common ground on anything. And if you're so for socialism, why are you so against republicans when democrats lean the same way as republicans economically?
(looks at the poverty rate now, along with medical bankruptcies, student debt and climate change) Yeah, it's doing a real bang-up fucking job, isn't it?
Please show me some socialist economy doing better. Just because unfettered capitalism is bad doesn't mean you just flush it down the toilet.
I'm not asking for much. Free college, Medicare for All, stronger labor laws, some other things. Things that work in the rest of the developed world but the US doesn't have because greed.
---
So, just skipping over the bit where we get called socialists for arguing we should have policies like all those other capitalist countries because in the US you get called a socialist for not wanting to hunt the homeless for sport?
Cool.
The reason most of the people who identify as socialists in the US call themselves that is because they advocate for any type of government regulation of corporations at all, be it healthcare or income inequality or environmental regulations or labor rights or raising taxes the fabulously wealthy or rent relief or consumer protections or social security or not allowing politicians to be bribed by unlimited campaign spending or tax fruad or interracial marriage or any number of basic, common sense things.
If you call everything you don't like socialist, then people who like what you don't like will call themselves socialists. And despite claims to the contrary, the media just basically let's the Right define every term in politics in the US
I replied to you same exact question about everything getting called socialism earlier in the thread. Doesn't everyone know that's like just a stupid meme at this point? I'm like a person you're talking to, not some FOX news viewer stereotype and I use words based on their meanings not whatever bullshit meaning people think they have now. What you listed is not socialism. I'm for all the stuff you just listed but I'm not for socialism and nothing you listed is what socialism is.
Then why do so few capitalists know what it is? For that matter, why do so few capitalists understand what capitalism is?
Quick test, seeing as you're so good at reading what my philosophical and political views are. What do I believe? What system do I actually believe in?
That's not the point I made and the fact that you think you're clever when that point sailed right over your head proves how little you actually understand anything. The very simple point I was making was that just because the whole world adopts a system doesn't prove it's good. The world has frequently adopted many horrid systems. So just saying
Is not proof that capitalism is good and is in fact an incredibly childish and silly thing to say.
What definitions have I not looked up?
Go ahead and tell me what countries I think we should emulate.
It is.
But seriously you are making a lot of assumptions about what it is I believe, so tell me what is it I actually believe?
I don't have like round table discussions with capitalists so I wouldn't know. Plus, it's not like normal conversation with people result in discussing what capitalism is. I don't really care who knows or doesn't know what capitalism is. You tell me what you believe.
Your point was very bad, that's why it "sailed right over my head". If you actually want to discuss something, then discuss it instead of throwing out something like eating can't be good because Hitler ate food and look what happened with that. Most things that are universally adopted are such for good reason.
I said 'you guys' not specifically you as a few have said they are for policies of certain countries but said countries aren't socialist so why would someone be a socialist then? If you're in that group, then yes, you haven't looked up what socialism is.
That was more in response to Buyetyen as I grouped both comments together because they were similar enough. Buyetyen specifically talked about policies that many Nordic countries have that the US should have.
How the fuck is capitalism right wing when some of the most left leaning countries in the world are capitalist? I agree in theory with most of what Buyetyen listed he wanted policy-wise, what else do you want to know? If you guys are attacking someone on your own team so much, how are you ever going to convert anyone not on your team to your team? Don't you see that's what they've got you all doing, thinking half the people are basically evil and shouldn't be listened to so that you never come together? The left sees the right as evil, the right sees the left as evil, that's a really bad place for a society to be. That's why you got people crying and being depressed when Trump won and you got people thinking the election was rigged when Trump lost because any lost feels like a war was just lost vs a rather tiny battle. It's basically the Domino theory all over again.
