For me this was about the AMD comic he did with Erin Dies Alone which was the one time in my life I didn't want to date Erin (fun fact: my odds of dating Erin are the same as my odds of dating an actual woman).

I personally don?t think there?s anything wrong with getting mad at the ridiculous outrage culture thats all too common on the internet, but I do agree that you should be careful not to turn the thing you are fighting for into ammunition.

Yeah the problem is that when you say ridiculous outrage nowadays, I need to ask "Which one".

I'm outraged that people get outraged in response to those who are outraged at the initial outrage.

Don't know if I'd call the second stage "outrage". It typically follows this sort of formula

<Tumblr/Twitter Complaints>

"Another group overreacting. , don't feel the need to change your work. Those who are upset are either taking it well out of context and/or wouldn't purchase your product anyway."

<Artist Acknowledges complaints via Tumblr/Twitter>

"Please don't listen to them. Your art is fine, the significant majority of people who enjoy your product like it for how it is."

"Oh come on!"

I think some people need to understand that artists aren't fragile little soufflés that deflate with a poke. Enduring criticism and other input is part of being an artist. If you change your message under pressure, then you didn't really mean it in the first place. You can't mature without experiencing opposition.

Fair enough. The whole fiasco started with people taking offence with a backer-written epitaph in a location of the game which read:

'Here lies Firedorn, a hero in bed.
He once was alive but now he's dead.

The last woman he bedded turned out a man
and crying with shame, off a cliff he ran.'

Certain parties took this as transmisogynistic/transphobic and kicked up a fuss about it on social media. Obsidian contacted the guy who wrote it and he agreed to rewrite it to save the guys at Obsidian the headache. The limerick now reads:

'Here lies Firedorn, a bard, a poet.

He was also a card, but most did not know it.

A poem he wrote in jest was misread.

They asked for blood and now he is dead.'

That's the long and short of it. Hope that helps.
I just found out about this story recently.
All I can say is the second pome the guy came up with is just plain better. Regardless of the context of how/why it was made.

So, all's well that ends well. :D
Except for Firedorn, because he's still dead. ;p

So you've got something like a turducken in your head, only you can't eat it, and it give you a migraine instead of the itis? <.<

This sort of thing has been going on through history though: Someone makes a form of art, some like it, some don't, some argue over meaning, and sometimes it gets political.

It speaks to the current kind of debates we have these days doesn't it. Once one starts, it's only a matter of time until the thing they are debating about stops being a target and starts being the bullet.

Don't destroy something simply to prove your point.

Unless your ART was really morally reprehensible or something I don't think people would normally react like that. Just relax Cory, there's no need to turn into a poor man's Zenpencil.

Edit: Take for example the Pillars of Eternity thing. They changed the joke. Then some of the people who were seemingly defending Obsidian's right to keep it in were suddenly calling for boycotts of the game. They don't care about Obsidian as far as the studio is a tool to them.

Edit 2: This isn't even the top comment giving this impression in the same thread, its just the one that cuts to the heart of the matter the fastest.

That thread is ancient by GG standards. Get with the program. Obsidian hasn't really been on people's minds for days outside of playing PoE.

Actually people at large really don't care anymore among those who wanted the limerick to stay. Not to mention the change pokes fun at the people who wanted it to be changed in the first place. It's the best of two worlds really. Noone really cares about Obsidian anymore in terms of this controversy, and that's a good thing. They can go back to make games where you can make all kinds of very questionable choices morally that don't outrage anyone, unlike a limerick somewhere in the recesses of some graveyard.

In the Internet, the value of the art, nor the feelings of the artist, nor the nature of the controversy never really matters.

It's just winning an argument with the one guy that you randomly decided to pick a fight with.

Well, someone needed to remind to the artists to be ready when it happens (although if this creates an once of self-awareness in someone, somewhere, it would be a good thing too).

If found the first one hilarious; but humor is subjective so whatever. The second one, not so funny; but it kinda gives the impression of the author saying between lines: RIP Firedorn's original epitaph, killed by angry mob.

I'm sorry I angered you. I don't claim to have invented anything. I was, however, answering a question that someone put forth, without making any commentary on the apparent stupidity of the term and the people who use it without irony.

You did not angered me.
I was angered by stupidity of term "meninist".

There are people who seriously use word "meninist"?

My mistake. I should have figured you were just raging at the stupidity of the term.

To answer your question, yes, there are people who use it seriously. I was almost certain I was falling victim to Poe's law at first, but Googling around for the term has proven otherwise.
