And lol at Wii bashing. It's like you have to be paid to be civil nowadays.
Indeed. I guess people just want to seem "cool" and "original" by junping on the bandwagon of hate. I mean, I like the Wii, even though I've only played it for SSBB in the past few months. I do want an Xbox 360, though... (I also think we should pay people for civility. Using bullets as currency.)

OT: In other news, oxygen is vital for most terrestrial life. Just as obvious, yet neither statement is worth a damn.

I cry balogona. Everyone knows it will end in a draw and Kurt will say spartans never die and the nuke will blow up ending the console wars in a draw.

As some philosopher guy probably said someday...

"Best way to win in a war is not to fight in one".

Instead of competing for existing market, Nintendo just discovered an entirely new demographic. Voila, ludicrous sales!

Yah, but aren't we in the market for video games? Not bathroom scales, language tutors and sudoku puzzles?
Most casual games on Wii are definetly games. Simplistic? Yes. But games. Other stuff is there, but Wii Fit is not the only thing that gets sold.

On the other hand, i can clearly see your point. Now let's stop here, as not to spam the thread. We can keep talking via PMs.

a console is only as good as the games for it
if the Wii started having series other than the usual Mario/Zelda type games then maybe it actually would win the console war

Console War is not over until the next generation of systems is released. Nintendo is currently in a big decline in sales, so it seems silly to 'call it', as it were. Although I don't expect sales to flip around so much that the 360 or PS3 overtake the Wii before new systems come on the market, it's not completely impossible.

Yes, the WII will win, but it'll win the same way the other team lets the special ed kid score in a game. It's a completely empty victory, allowed to happen only because people feel bad not giving it a chance.......

JUST KIDDING lol
I really couldn't care either way...Nintendo has more history,s o it kind of makes sense. But their projections all rely on the idea that these consoles will still be the newest available in 2012+....I'm thinking we'll have some new systems by then.

Who really gives a shit about the console wars?
The console wars were created by the fanboys for the pain and torture of those who play games so they can have fun. The console wars just add a trench, or a Berlin Wall of sorts between the common people of gaming.
I completely agree. Unfortunately most people here haven't come to this insight yet.

Yeah well, when it's all said and done the best games are going to be available for either the Xbox or the PS3 - and in the end, isn't that what it's all about?

Anywho, back on topic:
despite the "generous lead" held by the Xbox 360, Divnich believes it could turn into a genuine horse race. "The $299 price cut on the PS3 has clearly shifted momentum into Sony's favor," he said. "Is it enough to change Sony's current ranking or could Sony's ten-year support of the PS3 push its installed base ahead of the Xbox 360 in the long-term?
You know since a good portion of people already own 360's, I can see them going out to Best Buy and picking up a PS3 because its so low priced right now.

It'll be interesting to see who comes out in second, but hey I'll see you on the MW2 battlefield. Just pray you're not on the other side of my scope.
>:D
kind sir, be carefull. I might just take that as a challenge.

OT: agreed.
Even if nintentdo makes more money, sony and microsoft won't just disappear. Even though I would love to see microsoft die, on the account of windows sucks and they wanted to charge me way too much for repairing my xbox, I really really doubt you can kill microsoft. Sony has other income beside the games industry as well, nintentdo doesn't (for as far as I know and to be fair, that's not much further than the length of my nose). I also it doesn't look like they included the game sales in their analysis. seeing as how they don't get a profit from console sales, they rely on game sales for that.
keep in mind that the wii is bought by both casual and hardcore gamers but hardcore gamers often own more than one console and will rely on other consoles for their hardcore-gaming needs, because the other consoles are better suited for hardcore games and there aren't a lot of hardcore titles for the wii. casual gamers simply spend less money on their games because they play less.

and that was my uninformed rambling for this morning. time to get some breakfast.

We'll see in 2012, when the next generation comes out, who will win by outlasting the rest. Odds are that it will be the same console that won generation 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6: the PC.

To be honest, I don't care which console 'wins' just as long as I enjoy the games that are released for them. I play the Wii mainly for my most favourite games, the most milked franchises ever (but I don't care, I enjoy them). I play the 360 mainly for FPSs and Guitar Hero/Rock Band, and I play the PS3 for...um...something. I think the last game I played on it was either Final Fantasy 7, Metal Gear Solid 1 or Crash Bandicoot 3.

I have to admit though, I am a bit biased towards Nintendo, as they are my favourite gaming company (some people might scoff at that last statement that they are a gaming company, but I still regard them as one) and call me a sucker for punishment, but I will be sticking by them whatever happens.
I never understood that. Stick by them no matter what. They are a giant multibillion dollar corporation. They sure as hell aint gonna stick by you! They don't need your support to stay afloat.

I don't think we'll be seeing a new console for a while. and the pc won't win this round, there's too much piracy. yes, in 'console sales' it wins, but that's just because everyone needs a pc for stuff other than gaming.
There's too much piracy in pc games, the whole mw2 uproar thing made that clear.

So far, the PS3 seems to be doing the exact same thing the PS2 did. Ie. It has the longest starting stretch and warm up period of all the three consoles. It is finally kicking into gear, becoming affordable and actually getting good games released for it. If it will be enough, I don't know. But chances are it will survive just like the PS2 did, by being the low price long-term supported console.

One thing the PS3 has going for it that neither the Wii or the Xbox360 can boast is that it picked the right format in the BluRay/HDDVD-showdown. The BluRay is the future of digital discs right now and more than one family might decide to go for the PS3 and get a game console/media station instead of just buying a pure BluRay player.

The Wii is probably the winner this time around, but it is one of those hollow victories. It sold more, but both Microsoft and Sony are still on the track and doesn't seem to have any plans on dropping their gaming console-departments.

Well the same could be said for anything, like your favourite sports team or gaming franchise for example, they don't need anyone to stick with them, as long as people buy their stuff then it will be fine. But people choose to stick with them because of what they offer : entertainment value. I choose to stick with Nintendo because I enjoy their games.

I'm aware that they don't need my support to stay alive, its the same with Valve for example. They don't necessarily need people to support them, but people stick with them because of the games they make.
