Analyst Calls It: Nintendo Wins the Console War

I have a feeling that "Wii HD" will be coming out next year.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but no it isn't. Nintendo has said multiple times that there is no WiiHD.

So what, they'll never make another console? I just think that another console of theirs is coming out and that it features hardware that is up to scratch with current gaming systems.

Nintendo don't need to release another console to keep up with the times. Think how many people really care about HD. For example, is a HD TV any good to somebody with bad eyesight? Alot of people still do not know the difference. Maybe when HD becomes the standard in everybody's home then Nintendo should. HD is not going to determine sales. I know lots of people playing their Ps3 and 360 on a standard plasma or flat screen TV and they think the games look great. See, to the average gamer such things as HD is not really a necessity. Its all about having fun. And a decent HD TV isn't the cheapest thing around. For the record, Games that do not run at full HD (like most xbox and ps3 games) look shit on a 42cm HD screen, specially with no anti-aliasing. Thats like me running a game at 800x600 on my 22" Lcd on my pc.

Well just because the WII sells most rigs doesn't mean they are the best console. I mean lets face it, the wii is played by housewives, old people and kids under 12, for which there is a much bigger market. Swinging a stick around is not viewed as fun by most gamers, certainly not by me. I don't care about any "console wars" though, its just something that fanboys do to think they are relevant in some way. Im happy with my pc but i also think playing on the x-box would be mega fun.

And who says those housewives, old people and children aren't gamers? I personally like the Wii, but that's just my opinion. But to say that these people are somehow 'unworthy' of being called gamers is kind of silly. They play games. They may not be games you like, but they're still games.

It doesn't really matter, and one way or the other, the Wii will continue to decline, which means that it will be pointless by the time the next console generation is released. It was possible to get PS2s until very recently, and the same with last gen XBoxs, and the same will be true of PS3 and XBox360 when the next generation is released, but the Wii will probably be removed from the market when the 8th gen rolls around.

Not necessarily, though those people don't really care about video games and use them as an occasional pastime. I neither like casual gaming nor do i know any person like that, but gaming is much more than the occasional peggle or mario.

It might seem like that, its not a disadvantage, its just the way the console is. It was not made to compete with the consoles for hardcore gamers but made to cash in on casual gamers. What im saying it while it has its own merit, its nowhere near the best gaming console, and it seems to me that a lot of ignorant people call it the best console just because it sells much more games, like that analyst.

His job is to do fiscal analysis: sales are all he cares about. By his definition, he's absolutely correct.

I don't think we'll be seeing a new console for a while. and the pc won't win this round, there's too much piracy. yes, in 'console sales' it wins, but that's just because everyone needs a pc for stuff other than gaming.

Nintendo's main purpose is to make money, not make good games.

Nintendo makes good games for its consoles. It is the other publishers who don't know how to make the good games.

I am seeing a lot people bashing Nintendo for not making the kind of games they play. It is funny how people get all pissy and make fun of Nintendo for not catering exclusively to them. Is it really so bad if Nintendo makes games for people other than the hardcore elites who crave super hi def graphics and mature content?
