Oohh. You've seen Elfen Lied. Plus one point to you, kind sir.

I've tried a bit of anime years ago, but I stopped watching it because it lost its appeal to me.

However, I really liked Full Metal Panic, you should try that. Another famous one is Rurouni Kenshin, I'm sure you will have heard of it.

And then there is His and Her Circumstances, also known as Kareshi Kanojo No Jijyou. I watched this and at first, it was pretty good but the series kind of weakened afterwards. Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien is another one (I forgot the English translation), except this one retains its strength as a drama series.

If you're ever looking for a good Anime movie, I highly recommend Appleseed by the way.

Trigun is pretty good.
Azumanga Daioh is awesome, if you feel like watching something with no real plot, but is still pretty funny. :D

I've seen those except Perfect Blue whats that one about?
It basically chronicles a pop star's descent into madness when a the pressures of a career change, a stalker and other things take a toll on her. It's very surreal, and excellent, and that's the bare bones of it, there's much more to it than that.

Give it a watch why don't you? Along with Sword Of The Stranger if you haven't seen it.

Well, the Japanese definition refers to animation in general, so in that sense it counts.

I recall watching the first episode and rather enjoying it, so that. If I continue, it probably has far improved romance from Shakugan no Shana (the two are compared for some reason) without the kinda-wonky action.
