It like a race thats cool if you win it, but lame if you look like you're trying. Thats where I come in.

It makes you feel like you did something worth making a thread for?Even though most people don't know you even exist.

I don't really pay any mind to mine, although when I hit 5555, someone on the forum (I think it was Furburt) pointed it out, and I abstained from posting for a few hours to savor it.

Sometimes being happy and enjoying the moment is neccesary. With that said, I don't especially care about my post count, though I may decide to "celebrate" if I hit 10,000 or something.

On my 1000th post I made a thread where everyone shared pictures of cute stuff.
At my current posting rate, it'll take me about 7.5 years to reach 10,000, I might celebrate then.

Problem with me potentially celebrating post counts is that I post so slowly by the time I hit any milestone *everyone* else on the Escapist will of already done so.

I generally forget when I pass a post count, I did not celebrate 1k, 5k, or 10k, I will however celebrate my one year anniversary when that comes up.
Ha, I will on my 2nd anniversary!

But...I'm not that sure, really. I haven't really celebrated any of my post-count milestones yet, 80% due to me just forgetting, and only paying attention after I've passed it, or just not having any good ideas on what to do.

I've never really do it, might do so when I hit 500 and then ever 1000 after that.

I don't make threads when I hit [x] amount of posts, though I am planning on a 10k one if I ever make it that far.

What I normally do is put an EDIT in posts that are multiples of 1000 and say something along the lines of this: "Also, 3000th post. Go me!"
So do I!

*High five!*

In fact, we almost have the same post count!

*High five!*

What is your opinion on the matter?
It's all arbitrary nonsense based on our base-10 numeric system.

What's so special about zeroes in a row anyway. I'm going to do a celebratory post when I hit my 8293rd post. Not until them.

I partly agree, in that I hate new years eve, and it's always been a horrible night for me.

However, I think getting to 10,000 (or 8293) without annoying the community enough to get warned/banned is a good thing and worth a quick celebration :D

I think it's hilarious. I've seen so many people on here say 'postcount doesn't matter, it's not a big deal etc. etc.' and then when they hit 10k they post a celebratory thread as if many others give a shit.

Welcome to The Escapist, a gigantic popularity contest that no one will admit to.

I agree, but why is the 10000th post better than the 10154th post? It isn't. It's just our arbitrary numeric prejudice at work.

Some people view it as a Forum version of level grinding and acheivements...though, if you really think about it, it's more of a way to know how much time you've spent on here instead of doing something productive. By the way, that was my 253 post!!! lol

At the same time, it's just human nature, and some things you just can't break or you look weird, it's like (bad example I know) not joining in with xmas just because you don't find it logical.

It does make sense to celebrate hitting some kind of 'landmark' number, and with base 10, the round numbers make more sense than any others, I guess.

I agree in a way, but I don't think it's something you can really fight.

Besides I'm 22.78% of the way to 10,000! Woo me!
