It's official.

Anonymous has declared war on America.
Look how great that worked out for Japan?

I wouldn't be surprised if the CIA is already ordering agents to find and arrest ring leaders.

Actual protests? Highly doubtful. Anon is a bunch of neckbeards too busy screaming at people on MW2 or playing wow and fapping to dead dog pics.
As one who studies Anonymous Culture, I shall pick this apart.

Actual protests? They've been doing them for years! They even went to the streets at the last Olympics, attempting to put out the torch as a way to help protest for Tibet. Project Chanalogy has had many, as well. They always turn out in huge numbers.

Neckbeards, while a part of Anonymous, ae only found in the 4chan section under /tg/, or, Traditional Games. Fa/tg/uys, as they're called, seem to commonly have neckbeards, as tabletop gaming seems to almost literally induce a hormone which gives you one.

MW2fags are again, only a portion of Anaonymous. They are on /v/, which actually keeps to itself, and hates the rest of Anonymous. They are known for being way too over the top and serious about elitism in games, and are used as the butt of jokes in a lot of 4chan memes.

While again, a part of Anonymous, even /v/ hates WoWfags.

A sensible and self-respecting/self-preserving 'member' of Anonymous would never fap to a dead dog. They would be seen as a furry and disposed of, quickly.

As an outsider observer, oughta be... entertaining to see if this develops. Frankly I'm kinda hoping for some sort of government strike back involving SWAT and FBI teams invading underground bunkers populated entirely by Guy Fawkes masked gunmen, just because that would be the most entertaining option.

Though more likely is that everyone ignores them, life continues on as usual, and this Anon group just ends up looking silly.
You should turn that premise into a video game XD

Well the site being down for 30 mins isnt going to change anything at all, but it does draw attention from the media, and so from there to the general populace.
Their attack on the site has caused that reaction listed above, and now we, the people, are talking about it.
Mssion Accomplished.

I've seen many things out of 4chan good, bad, and most of it just for lolz, but this isn't exactly a very good thing.

Of the many things Anonymous stands for, piracy is not something I can stand behind. I was mostly on their side for the Gene Simmons article though since the factor going for Anonymous is that cases against piracy have been pretty dirty "shock and awe" cases.

Find one person responsible for piracy and try to completely fuck up their life forever instead of just going after the damage they've truly done.

There is no obvious reason for why you would do that.
Not one that YOU can see at least. Which actually rather proves my point. Very thoughtful of you.

For what? You should have addressed it to Tdc2182.
But I addressed it to you.

Maybe you can figure out why.

I won't hold my breath though.

I really want to not have any sympathy for Anonymous here. They're really just a bunch of stupid, over-entitled kids that have no idea what they're talking about.

But... I kinda have to say that intellectual property rights in America are so massively fucked up beyond all recognition that setting up a system where people were just allowed to steal things with no consequences would probably be less stupid than what we have.

Not that I think that's really a good idea, but still...

A lot of it is just "HURR Anonymous is Legion lol were so randum and edgy XD" bollocks. The whole "Anonymous protesting against Scientology/RIAA/Copyrighters through DDoS and real life protests" is a bloody joke now, and a bad one at that.

Now, this is a long thread and I apologize if this was brought to your attention before, but you do realize Anonymous managed to assemble worldwide protests against the Church of Scientology not too long ago, yes?

You'd be surprised at how these people could consist of more than just the trolls on /b/ and /v/.

Well I don't particularly support what they're fighting for, but to their credit, at least Anonymous gets shit done. How many other protest groups can say the same?
Do they though? What has changed as a direct result of the site being down for 30 minutes?
Well I imagine that if they continued their rate of annoyance they may change some political minds.

However what they really achieve is keeping the issue in the spotlight. Besides, its called Operation Payback, I don't think they're looking for solutions.
Yeah, they'll change political minds alright. Pretty soon every single politician who was on the fence about how to deal with all things internet-related will fall on the anti-freedom side of it all. This lot is doing nothing but proving that we can't handle freedom, that clearly we are all little children playing with big, dangerous toys.

Picture if you will the final episode of Firefly, that amazing, amazing show. River picks up what looks like a branch in her mind, but turns out to be a gun. Does everybody say "Oh, clearly she can handle it, now she's picked it up?" The answer to that is no. Everybody fears for their lives. And when you fear for your life, you tend to want to make the source of the fear go away.

Anonymous has now proven that they have no desire for actual internet freedom. They simply want to create internet anarchy, and that is something I will not/cannot abide. Boo on you, Anonymous. I don't often say this, but I truly hope your computers all burn to the ground in a blaze of glory. And that this continues to occur for every computer you purchase ever.

Couldn't the police then proceed to control the situation and have them arrested for computer hacking?

and also, at least they're fighting what they belive in, it may not be legal, but not that many protest groups can say that they made a change..

I'm not going to weed through 12 pages, but I had to just say that this was clearly and act of cyberterrorism and should no more be applauded than the murder of innocents by Middle Easterners.

I don't support piracy, but I do support any motion to stop Anti-Piracy Lawas that stretch into areas outside afformentioned boundaries. So, bravo Anon, bravo.

amen. they do get shit done. although, i kinda wished they let the piracy thing kept underground rather than public. by putting piracy at the center of public attention (and in such an extreme manor) then all pirates, like you and me, are going to become targeted by the the copyright companies even more than before.

You dismissed the Batman aspect but still act like you were addressing me for a reason. I wasn't the one ignoring all the historical and cultural aspects, but I now know you have an issues with words, so the confusion is understandable.
I was right.

It was wise not to hold my breath.

The irony of this situation is fundamentally appealing to me, but I don't expect you to understand why. I suppose, in the interest of furthering your rather limited understanding of the situation, that I can elaborate somewhat on the matter.

To be more specific, since you seem to have difficulty understanding your OWN position:
usucdik said:
In light of your recent tactic, it has also become hypocritical, considering you outright ignored the clearly contradictory fact of historical evidence: that a much more openly agnostic nation celebrates the associated holiday with no pro-theocratic intentions at all. This introduces yet another fallacy of assuming your current, scant investigation supersedes the traditions of people going back hundreds of years.
Right about there was when you betrayed your abominable ignorance.

I can spell it out for you one last time.

THEY CELEBRATE THE FACT THAT HE FAILED.

Your entire argument here, in the above quote, collapses upon itself into a singularity of idiocy.

Guy Fawkes has been misappropriated as an anarchic folk hero by people as uninformed and intellectually lazy as yourself.

Get the joke now?

Mr. Obtuse?

GET IT?!?!

Funny, right?
