They're lying. Simple as that.

Many anonymous people who were supporting Geohot admitted to pirating games and hacking online games with cheats. They're not trustworthy.

Sorry guys. You mess with Sony once, you're forever branded as criminals.

Wait a second... did Sony actually blame Anonymous or did we make that up? (I know I made it up)

If I remember right (and I don't), Sony shut down for humanitarian reasons: saving power, reducing loads, aiding in rebuilding after the earthquakes and tsunamis, etc.. Cyber-terrorism never entered into the equation.

...or that's just what they WANT us to think... *dramatic music!*

heh.

This group of hackers has never given us reason NOT to take their word for it.
And I'm actually not being sarcastic.

On the other hand, Sony has given us plenty reason to think that they can't keep their shit together. That leap year fiasco (finally looked it up) WAS only a year ago. I guess we're due for their next great screwup.
They are a group of hackers playing bully on the internet doing extremely illegal things. Nobody's private information is safe to them. Why should we EVER take their word for it?

It is not Anonymous. When any group like that announces that they will not perform any attacks for a while then there remains a possibility that splinter groups or single agents will take it upon themselves to continue with attacks. Those attacks will usually be overly ambitious and unsuccessful or relatively minor and successful.

For a big outage like this then the possibility are:

1. An individual or small group carried out an attack. Should have been stopped - Sony's fault.
2. An unexpected event. Should have been predicted - Sony's fault.

Besides which they annoyed Anonymous in the first place with their silly and heavy handed behaviour towards Hotz and others. Even then if they had been more careful/competent with security then Hotz would not have been able to jailbreak the PS3. The fact that they were so determined to stop homebrews in the first place is controversial, which was Hotz's motivation in the first place.

All this aside the communication between Sony and PS3 users has been almost non-existent. They have thousands of employees whose job description does not include maintaining the Network. This isn't like people are complaining of a lack of information from the fire brigade as an inferno rages.

In conclusion: Sony's fault. Maybe I will have some sympathy if they fix the problem within this two day timeframe and explain what exactly went wrong and why it won't be happening again.

Somehow I doubt that they even know what the problem is. Very poor show.

Having said all that if all in all the Network is down for less than a week a year then that is 95% of the time that it is up and running free of charge. Which is still great stuff. Not perfect but still great.

Because if it was anonymous (especially) they would've been gloating about it before anything even happened.

I guess I could give Sony a message like this one.

You can't hold a network together forever with duct tape and bailing wire.

They said it could be an outside attack. Assuming the spokesperson who said it was up to speed then that basically means anything is possible.

That means people running up and down corridors waving their arms about frantically trying to work out what the problem is. Maybe someone tripped on a cable and nobody realized the damage caused, maybe someone pressed the wrong button whilst having an affair in the office and is hiding in a shoe closet somewhere hoping that he somehow won't get fired, maybe an alien leader out there got pwned and ordered his minions to destroy the Network. We just don't know, it's hard to tell. A gang of thugs, a blackmailer, an angry husband, a gay lover...

Aha, anonops are the splinter group. By the simple act of putting ops on the end of anon they have identified themselves and are in fact, no longer anon in the truest sense.

Idiots.

I dont buy it. Thats not good enough for me. Anon is made up of random people with their own ideals and no system of command. Any single agent could have taken it apon themselves to do the dirty deed at any time.

It's somebodys fault! I'm not beating Portal 2 offline. I need my simultaneous Steam achievements. I'd play my PC copy, but I need my trophies, too. Back to Majin, then.
So games are only worth playing for imaginary points nowadays? I'm saddened...
No...My DS, PSP, and achievementless PC games still get plenty of use. But Portal 2 is a game I'm unlikely to ever play twice, and I'd like to get everything I can in 1 run.

Event happens, Internet invents facts. For once, can we not do that? Sony isn't trying to use Anonymous as a scapegoat (at least, not yet anyway). Even then, Anonymous isn't the only group capable of a DDoS attack. I don't recall Sony mentioning Anonymous in the other article.

If we're still going with the inventing facts route, Sony drowns puppies for Satanic rituals now.

That's what you get when you run a network that no one pays to access.

The three people Sony pays to maintain it must be working around the clock to get it back up by the weekend, maybe.

I still think it's this cross compatibility with steam.

The timing seems to perfect for it not be.

I think the two networks are clashing and PSN is down because of it.
Nothing can beat the power steam! Heated up water can make anything work!

This. They better back off. I haven't played any multiplayer game on my ps3 in an entire day! Its driving me crazy, mostly because when I didn't have anything to do, i'd think "OOH I'll go play some Bad Co 2...wait. Psn is down. FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU-"

I much prefer it than not being able to play at all because of the 360's pay to access gig. :\ (better not to spend money on something I can get for free elsewhere right?)
