hasn't @YourAnonNews and @AnonyOps (pretty much as "official" as Anonymous gets) said that they're NOT going to do that and that it was just a hoax?

*checks*

Anonymous @YourAnonNews

For the billionth time: #Anonymous will not shut down the Internet on 31 March. #OpGlobalBlackout is just another #OpFacebook failop. #yawn
Anonymous @YourAnonNews

Think for a moment: Why would #Anonymous shut down our playground, the Internet? Really, how would that help ANY of us? #NextQuestion
Anonymous @AnonyOps

Tomorrow, a failop. We will not be joining your misguided efforts. Have a nice day :)

And what about local DNS servers that keep a log of used domains and use them when they can't connect to the main DNS?

Honestly what anonymous are doing is just unnecessary, they are protesting in was that is just going to encourage the States. If the bill passes somehow, then they should take down the internet and see how people feel, then petition the government to amend the bill.

Come on now, Anonymous, that's just silly. Everyone knows that if you want to shut down the internet you'd have to fetch it down from Big Ben first. They're either going to need security clearance or a few dozen ladders.
Quoted for excellence. It's only 9:26 am where I am and this is already a good day xD

OT: Anonymous, you're not going to do it. If you do, what will you do all day?

"We're going to protest a couple of people by pissing off the entire world"... I grant you, people got by before the internet, but now that we have it, there's no need for us to do so. I was thinking they'd gone quiet for a while. I guess there's no better cry for attention than this.

And if an Anonymous member reads and takes issue with this: No you can't prove your point by doing anything to me. You're the monarchy of keyboard warriors and you'd only prove my point so kindly get back in your high chair so I can ram a fucking jet engine into your precocious collective faces.

this just pisses me off.

my parents both work over the internet, one supplies quilting supplies to people who order over the internet(my mum), the other one runs a global warming consulting service. if this go's for much more that a few days my mother will have intense trouble earning money.

i would also like to mention that most people in "anonymous" are HUUUGE nerds, and the people who agree to help with this mundane and stupid act of attention seeking are extremists and probably will only piss off all the other members of anonymous as they are not organized ,and anyone can be anonymous ,there is no entry requirements.

1) This is an obvious hoax.

2) What day comes after March 31st? Are you guys really this gullible?

3) Anonymous wouldn't do this; Anonymous LIKES the internet, they wouldn't take it down.

4) Taking down those servers is incredibly difficult. If it was easy to do this sort of thing, someone would have done it long ago. I doubt random script kiddies have the capability of doing so, and I doubt social engineering would work on those servers.

5) This probably wasn't even posted by members of Anonymous, but rather by trolls.

So, your argument is it is not possible because it was never done?
Go Google for Pakistani attempts to block YouTube and how it blew up global DNS system, please.

http://gigaom.com/video/pakistan-block-accidentally-takes-youtube-down-globally/

Not being informed about it does not make it any less real. Method proposed for this Annon action is also just as real as the one Pakistan wrongly used.

Go for it. I want to see what it'll be like to have a single day without any sort of connection.

A SOPA simulation.

Aw, man... just another silly hoax. I like the theory of it, though. I was all prepared to start memorizing and browsing by IP addresses. We don't need the domain name service, it just makes the internet convenient enough that any layperson can use it.

...and to anyone who read through the entirety of the article/OP and still thinks "shutting down the internet" is actually what was described in the attack... how do you function? Seriously, that's like someone taking down all of the signs on every highway in world and people thinking the highways themselves are gone.

And I award you one internet on the spot, good sir. To be honest, the Elders of the Internet would also put up quite a fight.

Why would they include the info on how they plan to do it? Seems like a Crime 101 lesson that you don't tell the people that are about to get fucked over how you're going to go about it.

It'll be annoying not being able to use it (easily), but I hope they do if it gets their point across. Sometimes they are arrogant pricks about things, but most of the time their agenda lines up with my views. So good luck to 'em. I just think it's a pity they announced it this far in advance.

Somehow I doubt they're going to be able to shut down the entire internet with the wrath of LOIC.
the mere thing that you think they they use LOIC for what they shows how umprepared you are. Sure they have at one point send LOIC copy into public, but thats it.

If they get enough followers they can do it.

Oh and is this why my internet been lagging yesterday? hehe

It's not happening. Those 13 root DNS servers are in 4 different countries and quite a few of those are in universities. Them announcing how they're going to take down the internet gives a warning to people on beefing up their security.

Besides Anonymous said they were gonna hack Fox News' website and the City of Toronto's website. Neither happened. I doubt the internet is going down this Saturday...

What gets me about this which I find just hillarious is, ok if they pull it off and say it only lasts a few hours. Theres tons of people out there with very little to no knowledge of the wider internet and this particular group, what they "stand for" if you can even call it that, or people who just have crappy internet connections anyway

For them it just might be a "huh cant connect to the internet, guess I'll go do something else and come back later"

Take my sister for example, only uses the net for social networking, facebook etc. and knows nothing of how technology works really. So to her, she'll just think its her laptop or router or something, shrug, go do something else for a few hours and come back non the wiser.
