People still think Anon is an organisation, not just a tagline people can pick up and say stupid shit. It's a double edged sword. On one hand, 4chan spawns Chanology and that was hilarious, on the other, idiots do this.

I want to see this happen...

No, I don't want the internet to go down...
No, I don't support Anonymous in this action (for once)...
...but it would sure be cool if they managed to do it!

Why do this on a Saturday when everything is closed anyways. Wouldn't it make more sense to do this on a Monday?

You all r the idiots who cares if the internet goes down for a while you all are so stupid you don't realize that they are trying to take our rights away they already tried to take our guns away if you were smart you would realize once one right gets taken away they start to take more and more. There is a reason why terrorists attack America and that is they see the government for who they are . So they will attack civilians thinking it will affect the gov. But they don't care about us all they care about is oil money and of course control. So we should all be thanking anonymous for helping to get people to repose our rights are being taken away so if you want to end up like china then your the idiots.

Does Anon realize that the government could very feasibly just leave the internet down, blame Anon for killing the net, and then slip in some spying code or something while it's down, so that when the government "heroically" restores the internet, we will all be spied on or something?

*/tinfoil hat*

Honestly, Anon...this is just stupid.

Ah, I remember when they said they'd "destroy" Facebook, wipe it from the face of the internet on Guy Fawkes night a while back... yeah, didn't happen.

Not too worried really.

Has it occurred to anyone else that anonymous has no Hierarchy, and thus no one is really qualified to speak for them as a group? That perhaps this is just some guy butt-hurt about Occupy not being in the news anymore?

Anonymous isn't going to target the internet to punish the elites. The net is where they live. This wouldn't be shitting in their own back yard, this would be shitting in the middle of their living room.

So let me get this straight.

Anonymous have been saying that the internet represents their ideals like freedom of speech and whatnot, and this is also the same group that (along with many other groups and websites) opposed SOPA and PIPA because the bills could potentially destroy the internet.

And now they are going to do the one thing that they have protested against?

You see, this is what I'm talking about. Anonymous have degraded themselves so much because of stupid things like this. They don't care about the people anymore, and quite frankly, I'm not so sure they ever have cared.

Anonymous, please. Stop, just stop. The people have had enough. You just don't represent the people anymore and you're nothing but a complete and utter joke.

Sorry for this rant, but they are just getting on my nerves now.

Note: I'm aware they have said that they are not going to "destroy" or "kill" the internet, but that still doesn't change my opinion of them.
I am sure you never supported anonymous so why the rant about how they NOW doing things you don't approve of?

Jesus Christ guys! Look, I hate SOPA too, but that's no reason to ruin the internet for everyone else!

Anon logic here

-Shut down internet - the primary source of fighting such corruption, which ended up getting SOPA and PIPA killeed.

-Shut down the primary source of entertainment for most of the people you claim to be working for, as well as screw over students and small businesses for the sake of screwing over a few large businesses

-Paint Anon with cyberterrorist/criminal connections, giving the general masses a reason to demand a formal investigation/accept censorship - the kind Anon is fighting against

-Piss off the 99% just to maybe piss off the 1%

Forgive me, but if the mafia is going to kill your wife, you don't kill the dons wife and leave a card saying "We cool?".

What they are planning to do isn't going to help their cause, its going to paint them as a serious threat and probably pave the way for legistlation that allows for censorship. Its just stupid

I am seriously doubting the authenticity of this threat. Seeing as how ANYONE can claim to be anonymous, it doesn't mean the entire collective is for shutting THEMSELVES down. Why in the hell would you attempt to shut down the collective's ability to communicate with one another? How would they know when Operation Blackout is over if there is no set date?

Not only that, but anonymous usually has a habit of claiming credit for an attack *after they've already done it.*
Its also would be highly hypocritical of them to do this since the point of Anonym...

Thank you for saying what I was going to say about them being hypocritical, but you have to remember that Anonymous is not run it is independent people trying to uphold their ideals through the means of hacking, but of course everyone forgets this and instantly jumps to saying that Anonymous is bad, which is incorrect. Anonymous is a idea that people call themselves by to try and do good things.

Thank you for pointing this out, apparently people don't realize this despite their main slogan.

Doubt it will do much.

Serious and Reasonable Response: Please don't do that. We like the internet. And how does kicking the plug out stick it to some suit-and-tie slimeballs?

Panicked Response: OH NO, THE PORN! DON'T DO IT, ANONYMOUS!!

"Wait A Second..." Guy Response: But don't you guys use the internet to coordinate these things? Why would you purposely kneecap yourselves like this?

Actually Serious Response: Please don't do that, Anonymous.

EDIT: This is making me think that Anonymous is made up of the Nosferatu from Vampire: The Masquerade and they're just doing this because someone got close to hacking the Schrecknet.

Wow that's a stupid idea. Targeting sony or a news web sight is one thing, but doing this would immediately piss off heavy hitters like google and facebook. Companies with resource and personnel quite capable of hitting back at Anonymous far harder than anything the government is capable of.

Idk... It kind of makes sense. The banks and these corporations aren't the real problem. We are. We are the enablers of this corruption because we let it happen. We do it with our ignorance and our lack of conviction. We do it by consistently choosing distraction and entertainment over anything else. Meanwhile, we will complain about how the world is circling the drain. WE need to change.

Now is this the way to get the word out? Idk. I think it will just piss people off in the wrong way. There have been people that try to get us to wake up and see with more friendly ways for a long time... but nothing works. All our toys are just too damn enthralling and our denials too strong.

Remember, that 1% can't exist without the rest of us holding them up.

I fail to see how "killing" the internet is going to stop the government, the banks, wallstreet, and all the other bad guys that Anonymous has named in this threat. The internet is used by many more people than just those groups. If you do something like this, even if all your doing is making an empty threat, you don't get people to join your cause.

They have the courtesy to do it on a saturday atleast. If they pull it off it will be a good lesson. It will mean someone less benign can do it too. Adequate security measures are not the responsibility of the intruder afteral.
