<b...while Daily Mail columnist and regular Wright Stuff panelist Anne Diamond said violent games were obviously to blame for causing violent behavior, and that reports claiming otherwise should be ignored because they're "obviously" funded by the games industry and thus completely biased.

"We don't really need reports to tell us [that violent video games cause anti social behavior] do we?" she asked. "Common sense tells you if you expose a child to violent imagery and a lot of it for many hours a day for many years on end, it's going to have an effect."
Okay, I am really getting fucking sick of the lack of journalistic integrity from these guys. It's goddamn disgusting. How the hell can they keep getting away with this shit? Shouldn't they have 10 lawsuits up the ass for counts of libel [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/102247-Daily-Star-Gets-Nailed-for-Made-Up-GTA-Story], slander [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/86408-Daily-Mail-Makes-Up-More-GTA-Crap], distortion of truth, and all that crap?

Alright, alright, I won't sink down to their level here. But please, can someone please tell me how they keep getting away with this?

This blame has been created by fear of this new medium which they believe is spiraling out of control, if you look at the critics it is the older generation the ones not born into our culture and yet they are the ones deciding what direction OUR entertainment will take.

There will all ways be morons in this world but once gaming is no longer the new kid, then he will no longer be picked on and can fully reach his potential.

The best we can do for now is speed this along by continuing to function as normal, productive human beings, play our games and by doing so generate millions of for the economy, that always sweetens it.

Let's play a clip from Repo Men being played on television on the interweb's and use it as proof that t.v. is depraved and turns children into druggie psychopaths. :p

I'm not sure if it's been brought up, but they keep on so much about how many more of these crimes are happening.

Could it be more truthful that these crimes are REPORTED more is all?

Similar to the way the UK at least is utterly obsessed with paedophilia, despite it being a minor issue at best, it's always been around, as have murderers. It's just that we're being forcefed it thru media.

I don't believe humanity is more violent than it was 20,50 or 100 years ago, it's just more reported.

Seeing as I've started playing M-rated games at 9, read some violent novels along the way and watched violent movies, the fact that I haven't turned into a gun-toting psychopath should be good enough evidence against your theory, Ms. Diamond.
Totally. I used to play games like Duke Nukem with my dad at age 6-7. Some of my favorite movies are exceptionally violent. And, I haven't shot anyone, nor do I want to. I think they don't get the fact that most gamers, let's say 99.9%, understand the difference between games and reality. We play games to escape exactly this kind of bullshit, or at least I do.

Heh just watched the segment. God people are stupid. Imagine if Starcraft or Warcraft was a big deal back before Hitler snapped, bet the whole "What caused World War 2" thing would have had quite a twist.

I'm actually really disappointed in this, I watch the Wright stuff when I have the mornings off from uni. It's usually pretty light-hearted, it's not a serious panel show it's just a bit of a laugh but this seems to be more serious and doesn't suit the tone of the show.

EDIT: just sat and watched that a few times and i have to say i think the person who complained was being overly sensitive. Yes some of the panellists were rather vocal with their opinions but what do you expect from an discussion programme? While they were severely biased i felt that the presenter did try to present a balanced point of view and gave several arguments against blaming games solely for violence. He respected the callers and at worst made jokes along the style that is the norm for him.

To me this feels like a knee-jerk reaction to a slight on gaming; are we becoming one of those groups who go up in arms every time someone says something about our hobby that we don't like? I'd bloody well hope not.

I honestly didn't know channel 5 still existed until I read this. Still it's the Daily Mail, they've supported Hitler in the past (they seriously did).

Instead of blaming video games they should blame the bad parents who let them play those "murder simulators".

Gun Culture? Thugs in Mexico from rival gangs mass murder each other too, and they don't have a large gun culture. Same goes for rival warlords/criminal factions in the areas of Africa run by dictators.

Switzerland has a large gun culture, but a low crime rate.

Whenever you have horrible social and economic factors, you have high crime. Period. If the thugs have access to guns, they shoot each other.

The same is true of videogames. Look at Japan. Tons of videogames- some of which are truly, horribly wrong- like Rapelay- yet low crime. Why? They have good social and economic factors. Respecting freedom of speech, and letting people make freaky, creepy videogames, is not going to change that, or endanger people.

My point is that horrible living conditions cause crime. Respecting people's rights does not.

btw is "The Wright Stuff" the equivalent of FOX in the land of fish and chips?
Nah, it's a nothing show. I'm not just dissing it for hurting my beloved gaming either, it is of literally no cultural or political interest. They could say whatever they wanted and no one would hear it.
Unfortunately a lot of stay at home mums and middle aged people do watch it and hang on its every word. Thankfully it's not entirely right wing garbage like fox news.
I can't stop laughing at your avatar.

OT: As per fucking usual the lowest piece of shit television tries to make a point across to the parents that are gonna watch this bollocks.

I feel bad for the kids that are gonna' be told to get off their game because their Mum is scared they might go and shoot someone. Get real.

Not quite. Its a day time chat show for naive, moral guardian-esque housewives on an incredibly unpopular TV channel.

Our equivalent of FOX is probably the Daily Mail (tabloid paper), which the stupid woman in the article writes for.

Wright himself is just a smug twat.
I thought "The Sun" was your version of FOX?
All you need to know about the Daily Mail and other British newspapers can be summed up in these videos:

That made me laugh. That's the kind of reasoning i'd expect from a 10 year old not a 57 year old "journalist."
