Yep I remember that game, never really got into it though, at that time I was into Carmageddon and You Don't Know Jack. Anybody remember those?

Wow, I haven't heard that name in like 10 years. Awesome games. I think I had Myst 4 or 3, something like that.

If you know exactly what to do, Myst can actually be completed in about 4 minutes or so. Most of the game is just to give you the hints you need to complete the final puzzle, which is entirely possible to complete just by stumbling around (Or remembering from years ago because you're weird like me)

My dad and I played through the entire series together, starting when I was four. I remember when I was in 5th grade and being so excited for Myst V. I really have to get those games back out. I love nostalgia.

Messed around with it at my uncle's house during a vacation to his house in Florida. It was the ONLY video game there and it felt less like a game and more like a powerpoint presentation. Next time we go I'm bringing my xbox 360 and showing my uncle was real games are.

Dont remind me of that game.
it used to keep me up nights.
Good or bad reasons for keeping you up at night?
its 3am and I am trying to decipher numerals in a completely different language, using only a childrens game and strange hieroglyphics.
...you decide.

I started with Riven when I was younger, and only ever finished it with the aid of the walkthrough book that I also had. I then got Myst and Myst 3, and later, Myst 4. I've since sold them all now, but I've recently begun to regret it, and after reading about the books and backstory as well, I've vowed to find a copy of the compilation pack (all five games), and try to get the accompanying novels and games (Uru, I think it's called, though I'm probably way off the mark there). I'm a sucker for getting the entire backstory behind something when I dedicate myself to a series, I have to fully understand the canon (which is why I sold the games in the first place, and why I've never gotten into comic books).

But yeah, absolutely loved the games, though some of the puzzles were extremely tricky.

Remember it? Damn, I'm currently replaying Myst 3: Exile! You know I allways thought it'd make a great setting for a table top rpg like D&D or GURPs.

I remember Myst, it was garbage. So were the sequels. I'm glad the "pretty but completely non-interactive scenery and stupid logic puzzles which have no sensible relation to the task at hand" fad eventually died in the ass. They were basically adventure games where you couldn't do any adventuring.

YES.

THE WHOLE SERIES IS AMAZING.

Honestly, if you didn't feel shivers while rolling around a pinball in Myst 3, you have no soul.
That God damned ball of wood and ice confused me when I was younger. How long did the end take you and wasn't the cliffhanger a *****?
Cliffhanger? Oh, remember, there's multiple endings to that game. There's a cliffhanger one where saalvador is trapped in the final age for ages and you get to go home, with the book, one where you don't get the book back, and a final one where you return the book AND Saalvador gets to go back to his home.

Anyway, yes, I remember the Myst series. I still ADORE Myst IV: Revelation. Poomanchu, if the first one still looks good to you then Revelation's graphics will blow your mind.

Check the demo out at gamershell.com if you can.

I've never played the Myst series myself, although my mom and aunt are both avid fans of the series. In that regard, I'm quite familiar with it.

Heh... every time I go to college and receive the red-coloured anti-plagarism paper at the beginning of each course, you don't have any idea how hard it is for me not to exclaim "BRING ME A RED PAGE!"

It was a really impressive game. I think I was seven or so when my mother bought it. Great graphics at the time. I still prefer The 7th Guest and Phantasmogoria, but it's a great game. I was just thinking earlier that I need to try to get Myst, Riven, and Myst III running on Vista. I'm sure it'll be a decent project though.

Yeah, being an avid adventure gamer in my youth, I remember it of course, it's like asking an FPS gamer if they know Doom! It was actually one of the first videogames ever to have massive sales, if I remember correctly it was first in that regard for quite a few years. It was indeed very impressive for its time, although I always prefered more story and character driven games, so Myst didn't keep me interested long enough to finish it.

Beautiful games. I managed to get the compilation off amazon (for about 16 quid :D), based on a vague memory of awesomeness. And I was so right. Innovative, awe-inspiring; they just don't make them like this anymore.

My first PC game, and also my first coaster. Beat AOL's disc by a good 24 hours.

It wasn't bad, I just didn't find it entertaining in comparison to say, Xcom: UFO Defense.

I played it once, couldn't get past the first puzzle, couldn't find the first puzzle, the hint button did absolutely nothing.

It's supposed to be a great game.
go into the big room with the books in it, go to the painting of the island, use ur mouse to point the line at the gears. once done that, go to the painting of the archway and click it, go through the bookcase, up the elevator, round the back of the elevator, up the ladder, and there is ur first hint as to how to get into the gears level. :D

I remember playing through all the games with my dad all holidays, good times!
