Damn it damn it damn it. As sucky as it was (griefing), I had so many good moments in it. It was really good when your team worked together just right, and the customization, god, I'm gonna miss it.

RTW tried something new, something unique, something that hadn't been done at that scale before... And the game industry punished them for not making another generic wow-clone.
Not to mention all the reviewers who thought that APB was supposed to be an MMO or another GTA, and thus based their score on such expectations.

It's a shame that it had to go under so quickly. And it's a shame that so many people were reluctant to try it out after reading a review based on the BETA stage of APB. Heck, alot of the issues they were complaining about in the reviews were fixed in the very first major patch.

Oh well.
Rest in peace, RTW and APB.
There's no other game out there that will be able to replace you.

True, it does hurt that a game gets punished for not being like the other thousands of fantasy MMO's that copy WOW

Awww sad to hear about that, I found APB a pretty good game even with the balenceing issues, but i suppose they just tryed to do to much with what we have now so much wasted effort into this game now it coulda been great i think, dont regret buyin it and usein all my time in first week tho still more time then some games at full price have given me

This is actually kind of disappointing, I had hoped that they would take a horrible game and patch it into being half-decent, like they did with EVE Online. Pulling the plug seems premature.

welp... that's a genuine bugger.

They'd just started properly fixing it.

Cya on the other side RTW.

Anyone know if the APB costume creator could work without a connection to the servers?

Just wondering if it's worth convincing the local store to sell me a copy for $5 if I could get a decent character creator out of it.

Anyone remember the promotion by tattooing a real guy? Ruined that guy for no reason it seems.

no, you need to connect to the server AKA "world" THEN you get to make your character.
Thanks for the answer. Here's hoping someone does something with the character creator code instead of it just collecting dust somewhere.

Oh, geez, I nearly bought that!
£30 down the pot it would've been.

We, shame to see a game go down, I guess, even if I never played it.
They apparently put a lot of the development team on the job of making new content, and very little on fixing old content. The game had crippling design flaws that could have been fixed in a week. Altering the matchmaking program so that only players of a similar level fight each other would have taken almost no time at all. Instead I spent 75% of my time fighting players who were both higher level than me, and had equal/greater numbers than me. The coolest looking guns, such as the .44 magnum revolver, were often the least useful.

They could have fixed most of the problems very quickly with a small staff. Giving players missions to fight much higher level players is just one example of crippling game flaws that could have been solved easily. You wre also often given missions that were ridiculously far away, and you would wind up failing the mission before you got there. And beating a "Kill This Guy" mission became impossible if your target was in a vehicle and you wre soloing. They shouldn't even give you that mission if you are soloing. And many missions placed objectives in locations with secret entrances that were several blocks away from the point listed on your map- they would actually give these missions to people who had never played the game before.

some common sense, a touch of honesty, and some hard design decisions could have saved this game. I don't think anyone disputes how good a job they did one the customization portion of the game. They also did a good job on the art/graphics side as well. However they really dropped the ball on the game play. Once again to coin/steal a phrase "It's the game play stupid".

I think the typical high fantasy MMO niche (and to a lesser extent MMORPGs in general) is filled, and that competing against WoW is suicide unless you have the perfect idea, license, and execution. So I like the idea of a MMOFPS, or MMORacer, but to be successful it still needs other elements to work. A great license to draw in an existing fan base, or rock solid mechanics would all help in that respect.

The truth is all APB had was the distinction of being a a little different than most things on the MMO market and a nice character customization system. You can't get people to shell out a monthly fee for that regardless of how starved they are for alternatives to MMORPGs.

i was one of the suckers that purchased the game. I got barely 4 hours out of it due to crappy server latency after release, I've been waiting for them to upgrade their servers and this shit happens!
in the words of a small kitten i saw somewhere on the internet "I haz a reag!".

After the endless forum harassment by marketing cocksuckers trying to get people to buy this piece of shit this is poetic fucking justice.

You reap what you motherfucking sow.
