Wow. Thats not a good precedent for MMOs I'd imagine. APB will surely be held up as a worst case scenario for developers in the future.
Not a good precedent for a certain style of MMO, maybe. Nobody seems to have branched out of fantasy or science fiction to create a game with a contemporary feel that's really caught on. Although I did think that APB was, for me at least, one of the simultaneously most boring and most frustrating games I've ever tried to play. I feel sorry for the people who put a lot of work into it, but I'm not convinced the game deserved to survive.

It's going to suck for those that recently bought APB when they're going to find out the servers are done. Oh well, the game received bad scores so I guess it was for the best.

*Hangs head* Sorry for your wasted money dumbass buuuut.....

I FUCKING CALLED IT! HAHHAAA! Go figure, the one time a beta LACKS people bitching about problems is the one time a game dies fast.

Quick, someone salvage that Customization tech ASAMFP! NOW! DO NOT LET THAT SOFTWARE DIE! They fucked up alot with APB but customization was what they did right so save that piece let the rest drift to the bottom. If RTW owns that software they have a fighting chance(unless they prefer to go out like a little ***** to each his own i guess). That was some good customization, and if RTW doesn't try to get that into other MMO's, well they died like a *****.

Sorry, but... called it. Marketing a terrible game about gangs and customization without any content is a terrible idea. Ask Champion Online.

Oh, geez, I nearly bought that!
£30 down the pot it would've been.
Which you could have multiplied several times over selling back to a collector...
Not if I bought it on Steam, which I do with most of my games.
I'm cheap and lazy, what can I say?

I'm convinced that MMOs cannot be published by anyone other than the developer, because only the developers care enough about their game to see it through a rough patch.

This is precisely why I usually wait a year before hopping into an MMO, if at all.
I already learned my lesson with Hellgate: London, and I imagine this game will be a lesson for many unwitting ex-subscribers.

And another soul is absorbed into WoW's horrific throne...

Although that being said, its been more the fault of the delays and the lack of marketing.
For surely an MMO cannot fall by it's own faults... :p

In any case, I'm not shedding any tears over this pitiful whisper of a demise. Only thing worthy of note is the speed of it's collapse.

I was just about to buy more gametime for APB, shame to see it go down this way. Granted that it wasn't exactly the game of the year, I still saw it as having potential and being good fun when enjoyed with a few friends. The customization was awesome, but I can't say I didn't see this coming - though I didn't image it would be this soon.

Was planning on an extended session this weekend, but I guess that's not going to happen.

So long APB, we had some good times.

Customization was good.

What is rally sad is that Steam was still selling it at $39.99 up until yesterday I believe.

I feel bad for anyone who bought it then.

I at least being a pre-order person at least got my fun out of it, though I still have A LOT of hours left that I will be unable to use.

I bought and played it for a month. It was slick, but suffered from very limited amounts of content - for any genre, but especially for an MMO. There were also some equipment balance issues, and fundamental exploits that players could abuse to the detriment of anyone who didn't abuse them.
This. But we were promised extra content and bug/exploit fixes before the end of the year.

Personally, I feel a little fucked over, having paid for the game. And have it be available for three months.

It had plenty of potential.

Fuck.

God damn it I bought the game new and now I can't even play. Eh I never really got into it. But still that is annoying.
