In my country there's a magical thing called the Consumer Guarantees Act. It protects consumers (hey, that's me!) from getting screwed. In the case of electronics, they must function for a reasonable amount of time - about three years - or the seller of the product must repair it, refund the money, or replace the product. The warranties retailers try to sell you is bullshit, too. If you bought a warranty for less than three years you're basically throwing your money away.

The CGA saved me from buying another Samsung TV. The day after it broke, I called Samsung, said I knew about the Consumer Guarantees Act, and they promptly replaced the broken TV with a brand new one the next day, free of charge. I likes my government, I do!

My PS3 also got sick one day, wouldn't read any discs. So I bought an Xbox 360 instead.
Not a very rare problem, can be bypassed by starting a game on your hdd and then the cd magically appearsin the XMB.

OT: Getting the ps3 replaced shouldn't be very hard and well... the xbox sounds old and RROD is a well-known problem plus they really don't have any responsibility after your warranty has expired

I've dropped my Xbox, and it hasn't broken. How's that for luck.
Oh, but it's impervious to exterior damage but not interior, and it's suicidal

Stop throwing your consoles?

I don't fuckin' know.

I've gone through 3 xboxes. Two of which died within a few months and where replaced for free by microsoft, the third one has lasted me like, 3 years now.

Had my PS3 for about 5 months and no problems so far.

See, this is why Nintendo is my favorite games company. Their systems are the AK-47 of gaming.

I have a few questions for you, Do leave your stuff sitting in dusty areas? Do you regularly check them for dust? and have you thrown, drop kicked, punched , or done anything of the sexual nature to your consoles? If any of those you have/have not done, you are at blame.

My PS3 used to shit the bed every now and then, but I picked up one of those cooling systems and it worked great for a time. Then it died (or so I thought) and about three days later it turned on and has been fine ever since. I'd call the sony helpdesk.

Aw, when I was scrolling down quickly I read "Electric Violin of doom. I knew a girl who had one." And it was the most awesome thing ever, until I re-read it.

Ok so I bought my PS3 slim about a month ago and the first few days were amazing. Then i noticed a distinct clicking noise every now and then when using it for longer periods of time. Even when it was off it would click sometimes. Then going to the New Year I go to use my PS3 and it doesn't work at all. Here is a list of my problems:

1. The controller does not connect. Even with the cord nothing.
2. The screen is black (the cords are plugged in correctly.)
3. I can not turn OFF the system I can only turn it on. (even resetting it doesn't turn off)Must be unplugged to shut off))
4. The PS remote doesn't work for it either. (turn on or off)
5. The only thing that works is the power button and the eject button.
well A) that sounds like an overheat problem where the solder on somethings lost connection it happened with the PS3 with bad air conditions and what not

points 1 and 4 are pretty obvious if the screen doesnt come on either

dont worry unless you took it bungie jumping warantee is garunteed to cover it

Aww that sucks. My Xbox crapped out months ago, but my PS3 has been working fine.

I have heard from multiple people that the PS3 is made to vent standing upright and vertical, so it might have something to do with overheating, or you might have just gotten a rotten console.

All I can really say is, hope you can get the warranty :/

I can't even describe how bad it is. And I homeschool so that multiplies how bad it is by 2
Man that really does suck. My 60GB PS3 broke 2 days ago as well. I was playing AC2 and it froze, so I took the disc out, cleaned etc, put it back in and it wouldn't read. It then didn't read any disc I put in. Then I rang Sony and they confirmed either the laser or disc slot was broken and the warranty was up, so my parents, the saints that they are, went out and got me a PS3 slim yesterday as an early bday present. I'm such a lucky bastard

I smell a trap here...

This seems suspiciously like flame bait..
Your title says something about the PS3, but then your post laments the failing of your Sony system and THEN your xbox breaking down, and THEN how you will now be "ONLY Sony" because Microsoft is evil and won't fix your Xbox, even though your Sony is broken too.. and forgetting the fact that it sounds like your Xbox is older than your PS3 slim, considering those came out a FEW months ago, and already it's "broken"?

Sounds suspicious to me. I think I'll avoid getting into the whole "Xbox vs. PS3" debate.
This. If you are for real then i dunno, you have terrible luck or your like my two 10 year old nephews that leave their systems on 24/7, never clean it, abuse the discs and kick the controllers around.

bad luck, not much you can do, maybe come up with 2 recommendations:

try doing something involving metal to reduce the EM charge you appear to have
or...
did you try having sex with it.
'works' more often that you'd think.
