If this app was removed, I expect shortly to see all apps involving anything gay or lesbian be removed as well. Equality is the name of the game.

You should be expecting the removal of all apps trying CURE religion.
They didn't remove an app because it's religious, they removed it because it's hateful.

I'd hardly call an app trying to cure "the gay" hateful. If they aren't trying to force it on anyone, I see no problem. Would you call an app saying how great it is to be gay and everyone should try it "hateful"?

How does someone believing gay can be cured, promote hate? I'm pretty sure it doesn't. You can believe Stalin was right and keep it to yourself, and it's not spreading hate just because you believe it.

How is curing a disease and letting people know you like things even remotely similar? This app wasn't proclaiming a love of anything, it was trying to piss off gays by implying they're a disease.

Because it would be akin to me "debating" with someone that the surface of the sun is warmer than my living room. The opposition's viewpoint doesn't matter because it is factually incorrect. There are no pros and cons to be discussed, there are no issues to be weighed. We're not discussing foreign policy here, one side is just suffering from a delusion.

You can believe whatever crazy thing you want, but nobody is guaranteeing you an audience to share the lunacy. Apple has the right to choose to sell what products it want. It is under no obligation to sell products it does not want to sell. The App Store is not a public place. It is owned by a private entity.

I think perhaps you're just using the word "debate" in a way different than I'm used to. You seem to think that any time someone is wrong about anything, that issue is "up for debate". To me, only issues where both sides have a legitimate argument can be debated. I wouldn't call correcting someone's belief that the sun is not hot a "debate" - I don't think many people other than you would.

You've said "you should have no problem presenting evidence" a few times now, and I'm not sure where I implied I do have an issue with that. In this case - as with the sun being hot - the evidence is widely available and overwhelmingly weighted to my side of the argument, so I generally assume that the people who insist that the converse is true are either deliberately ignorant or base their beliefs on absurd religious texts.

I just can't believe some people in this thread. What f I made an app called Women's rights are the plague? What if I designed it so that it would teach women of the virtues of behaving like Victorian Era women with no right of ownership, no right to work, no right to vote etc? I would be called a bigot, a sexist and some other mean words.

But here are some posters saying Apple are wrong in taking down a similar hate message against a group of people. For shame.

Let me rephrase my point: Why is it that ANYONE can determine that a issue can not be debated? You say that if I base my point off of "Absurd Religious texts", I am akin to people who deny the heat of the sun?

I have had this debate before, and my point is ultimately a series of ?why? questions. If anyone from my church said ?Being gay is wrong and a choice. This is not up for debate?, I would have this same disagreement with them.

1. The Appstore is not a public forum, and Apple can sell whatever the hell it wants on it. This is not an issue of freedom or of speech. It's an issue of the market. If you're pissed, go buy a Droid.

2. This action by Apple (if it IS an action, and not just some glitch or hack; there hasn't been an announcement) is not discriminatory against Christians. If an atheist organization put out a "Christian Cure" app, you better believe that Apple would block or pull that one, too.

3. We need to stop treating the idea that "homosexuality is a disease that is curable" as just another opinion and call it what it is: hate speech. It belongs in the same category of garbage as arguments about the genetic inferiority of certain races or genders. You have a constitutional right to say it, I suppose, but nobody, including Apple, has to take you seriously.

Hm. Was the app earnest? I mean, its absurd title carries an air of attention-whoring, rather than honest concern. As a Christian, I understand the belief this group possesses, but I question the motives behind the initiative. Did they REALLY aim to reach out to Christian-leaning homosexuals with this app? I wouldn't praise Apple at this junture. They've been taking down apps targeted at gay people for no reason like there's no tomorrow, but it took a freaking petition for them to take down one that offended them, which had also been flagged as not offensive at all.

I'd actually prefer if they just left this app over taking the moralist stance they've been taking.

I don't think there's anything wrong with this app. If you don't like it, don't use it. I'm not saying I agree with it. In fact, I disagree with it. But people should have the right to believe what they want.

No one has denied their right to believe what they want, or indeed to express such beliefs.

Apple has not banned a book, they have declined to stock a book in their store.
