I couldn't see them making a full fledged console but maybe something that works like the app store with fairly simple and open development for anyone to make.

ROFL just wiki'd the Pippin, that's freakin funny looking. The weired thing is that I was in high school when this thing came out and I never heard or saw anything regarding this console.
OT: I don't think an Apple console will be successful despite the company having loyal followers.
I think part of the reason that the Ipod/Iphone app store platform is so popular is because most of their users are casual gamers that don't mind dropping $1-$5 on games that are simple and easy to access.
I do not see the same users going out and spending a ton of money for a console and it's respective full priced games.
I personally would not support the system.

Now to be serious. If an Apple console was in the making, we wouldn't know anything about it until 6 months before it would be released. Maybe.
Apple would also take the making of said console slow and rigorous, seeing how they could make it hack-proof. And if it does become hacked in some way, they'll buy it back.
I'd expect the name to be something generic, like the iPhone and iTunes. Say? iCon sounds like what it'd be.
The ToS/Rules of Play would be an unknown. Apple could just go 'You bought it. What happens on the system, if you play online, is your decision.'
Hardware wise, it would be top-notch and complicated, yet somehow weirdly simple.

Well suppose it would have it's uses, playing games while keeping you Pepsi nice and cold =)
I would be have gamecube graphics quality, made in a fancy, excessive aluminum case, you would have to buy games through the apps store, and they would cost way more than they are worth. The console would also cost more than a release day ps3, because apple's sheeple would pay it.
