If Apple used what seems to be their current business model (making products with outdated functionality at unreasonable prices, but making sure that the interface and case look nice)in the gaming market, they would be destroyed.

Amen brother! I for one wouldn't buy anything from Apple. I find them to be overpriced and highly overrated.

I can already hear the pretentious hipsters emptying all their loose change into a massive piggy bank to begin saving for whatever this over-priced piece of shit may be.

Considering I can't even get a freakin' Macbook for less than £700, the chances of this console being anything below £500 are astronomically unlikely.

So, it'll be overpriced, pointlessly flashy, actually do nothing special and only serve as a status symbol for elitists? Yeah, good luck with that...
Are we talking about the PS3 in here? :D
oh dear god, don't start a flame war. :|

I really hope the console doesn't look like that. It would look stupid as hell.

I wouldn't buy it. Apple are being pretty stupid in considering this. It's a really bad time to jump into the gaming market, especially with Nintendo destroying everyone in terms of sales.

Apple, soon to be known as Skynet goes live in the gaming world in 2012.

Maybe this is the apocalypse that the Mayans predicted...

The iPhone is NOT a gaming console. We dont need another console. Either it will fail, or we will just have alot more flame induced headaches....
Or 360 and PS3 fans will unite and crush the Apple fans and then celebrate and party and be friendly...for a minute then go back to hating just eachother with a bit of scrap hate to Wii fans sitting in the corner ignoring it all playing Brawl.

So if this were true, would you consider buying a console from Apple? And how much would you pay for it? How much would it cost (considering Apple products tend to be quite expensive)
Not to sound obnoxious and pretentious, but iWouldn't just because it's Apple. iFind that they're just trying too hard to get everyone interested in them and to come off as trendy. iHate the naming style, deciding to put an "i" in front of what it is. iHate the business plan that seems to be out to rip people off as much as possible. iBasically hate Apple and anti-consumer it appears to be.
iWould first, like to say iTook every "I" in your post, made it lowercase and then iPut it in front of the following word.

Second, iAgree with you (both of you). iThink we should be scared of Apple.

I can't help but think of Muse's Thoughts Of A Dying Athiest:

"It scares the hell out of me, and the end is all I can see".

Honestly, some of the stuff mentioned there is even beyond some of the stuff I was already pretty aware of. Stuff like forcing people into using iTunes to go with their iPod instead of the iPod functioning as a proper MP3 player.

Given that Macs generally cost twice what PCs do, I wouldn't pay £500 for a console although I wouldn't pay £200 either.

And what would you play on it? Would it have a similar range of games to the stunning selection available for the Mac?
Nope, just a bunch of pointless apps...

i'd probably not buy it,i doubt mac could hold their own with exclusives, and i would not want mac to get power in the console war so i would not support them one bit if i had the choice to.
Hmm I wonder how many people felt the same way when MS made the Xbox?

If there are good games on it then I will get it, if its a reasonable price.
look at the computer market

pc's rape just about 90% of the market (last time i checked)

which are run by windows

which is microsoft

microsoft profit >>>>>>> apple profit

microsoft's ability to bully and get massive exclusives >> apple's ability to do that.

and at this day in age, most people are either apple fanboys, or they are complete opposite, so no, i dont think the apple console would sell well, especially considering how overpriced it would probably be, and how well the xbox/ps/pc/wii is infrastructured into the gaming world already.

it would be the i360, just as crappy as the original xbox just done in white and nerfed for todays modern dumbass!
Interesting, because you just sound like a MS fanboy so I can hardly see the difference.

Microsoft definitely is a bigger company than apple, but considering ten years ago apple was not even close to being competition, I think they are doing pretty well. They have a stranglehold on the handheld market right now, so I think they are better at specializing than MS is.

I don't really care Mac/MS or whatever. They're both just big corporations that only care about our $$. All your opinions on what the console would be are pure speculation so I can't really agree with you that it would suck. That said, it may still suck, but why get all bent out of shape over a rumour that is completely unconfirmed, and make up your mind about a stance on it when you don't have all the facts? That's how fanboy's are born.

I'm going to wait and see what the price is, what games are available for it, and see if a few years after its release if it is still going strong or not before I make a decision about it.

Otherwise I'm only limiting the amount of games and enjoyment I could be having.

Just a thought.

Also, in terms of the whole Mac's being catered to today's modern dumbass, I own a Mac and a PC, and I use my Mac more. Why? The software I need to do my Audio Work is better on Mac. Hardware is hardware really, and PC's are more customizable, but there are problems with PC's and problems with Mac's. I don't think one is better than the other. I will say I have less problems with my Mac and I can work much faster on one because of the ease of it's OS interface. But I still use my PC.

Anyone who buys something without doing research simply because "It looks pretty" deserves to lose their money really.
actually i couldn't care for microsoft, although i prefer pc over mac just about any day, HOWEVER, mac does have impressive software, especially for audio/video, however the price of quite a bit of it is astounding compared to stuff i can get on pc thats almost just as good for a fraction of the cost.

now for mac, they would probably have a pretty decent console, however that thing would be so locked up tight on exclusives and what you can do i dont know if i would enjoy it, apple has proven time and time again thats how they are with their products, so having the console would be the exact same take, and most of my rant i had was going towards the exclusives and developers, most of them are owned by microsoft/sony/nintendo or are pro-pc all the way, so for mac to keep up spec wise with the pc or if they did do the console, they'd have to do some major developing themselves in the game section, otherwise i couldn't see them standing strong with the other 3 already well established companies, because you know the apple console would get no love in asia, and doubtful in europe, as most europians i know and have seen are pro pc for the most part, so itd be tough for them off the bat trying to sell.

if they made a decent controller, the system wasn't outright expensie, and had decent titles, then in reality of course i would buy it.

It'll be an Apple which means:

* It'll be expensive
* Eye Candy
* Not as much software as everything else
* Years behind in technology
* Overly hyped
* Inferior hardware

And most importantly, people will buy it.

Should also mention it looks nothing like any of their other products. It more looks like the old PowerMac cubes, PowerMac G4s with the mirrored drive doors and the G4 iMacs. It seems to me like an outdated picture, or maybe Apple are just going down that track again?
