"Appropriate" Phone Backgrounds

I usually don't put anything sexual/erotic as my phone wallpaper or lockscreen, seeing as I use it around other people a lot, and with my luck, they'd judge me and I'd get super embarrassed lol, but here are my current backgrounds

Hmph. I would very much like to put NSFW images for my phone's BG...but the constraints of daily life and reality are, indeed, a harsh thing to bear.

That said, I've still done it for a lark, usually when I know I've got a day or two off work or public contact. Aside from that, it's fairly tasteful/neat imagery for all the folks who like looking over my shoulder while I fuck with google maps during a shift.

I've tried to stay clear of anything sexualised just so I don't have to put up with having to justify it to anyone, but 'violent' images get a free pass though..

I've been using American Mcgee's Alice for a while on my phone, and SC 2 on the iPad.

Locked screen image, fits perfectly in the back space been the open slide and the time/date.

PC has a drawn dual screen WP of Hel from SMITE, which is pretty awesome.

Meanwhile my background stuff has always been beautiful landscapes and the like. Right now, my laptop background is some form of screenshot I took while Beta testing TESO, and my phone is a picture of the sky. The lock screen is an artsy photo I took of my PS3 controller.

So as far as the OP, I would definitely be wary of using overly sexualised characters. Partly because as a female it makes me uncomfortable to see it (and no doubt so would any passing stranger), but also because many people won't appreciate it. If you have to explain your justification for using it, then don't use it.

Wouldn't put anything that is primarily sexy or promoting any recreational substance.

Mine is the fullsize image of my escapist avatar which is a fairly accurate depiction of the alchemical Baphomet in anime stlyings. Thus it has boobs. Thus it tends to be either a fairly interesting conversation starter or an excuse for the more prude to avoid me. Essentially a win-win.

Well, it's your phone and if you think that background is appealing to look at and refelects your personality then by all means, feel free to use it. I reckon that i might find it slightly embarassing if anyone asked me about it but that's just me. Trying to not be insulting here, but you did ask for people's opinion so here goes: I do find the picture the OP posted to be directly made for sexual arousment purposes. Having such material available in such a way that you will flaunt your rather peculiar sexual fetishes whenever you operate your phone, I find both krass and off putting and I would certainly think lesser of you for it. The picture belongs in a private gallery where you can peruse it either alone or with like minded people.

The funny/sad thing is the non-geek world would look down on such a background as much as the geek world seems to look down on the original image. Seeing as it comes from a computer game. Hell, looking at all of the non-sexual images of geeky things people have used as "better" examples, to most people not familiar with or into anime, games or whatnot they'd be considered to be sad too.

People really ought to remember that kind of thing more often when passing judgement on other peoples tastes.

Myself? I am with the "It's your phone do what you like, but don't be surprised when people question/comment on it crowd". Whether or not people have any right to judge you for it is debatable, but people will do so, so you have to be willing to deal with it. Or else choose to avoid it.

I don't know what it's like where you live, but this really isn't true any more in my experience. Not only is gaming pretty mainstream now, but most game-related backgrounds could be from pretty much any form of entertainment media if you didn't know the specifics anyway.

A weirdly exaggerated sexual image, on the other hand, is immediately and universally recognisable as such, and that sort of thing tends to be much less socially acceptable than gaming.
