In the op's defense, it's still April 1st in the US--11:30 pm on the east coast, 8:30 on the west coast. However, I defend him begrudgingly because this is exactly the kind of lame-ass April Fool's joke I hate. Telling a story you made up and then saying "I lied" a couple hours later is not exactly a prank. It's quick, easy and boring for everyone who was subjected to it.
