Are Elves better than Men?

No. As is explained, their bones break far more easily, they are smaller, weaker, and really don't get the whole 'technology' thing.

Oh, and any race that relies on such stupidly thin swords, short spears and bows is going to get hashbrowned by anyone who figures out that massed pikes = win. Or indeed, as soon as anyone figures out how to employ cavalry wearing plate armour.

Fuck it, I could take on any elfen fighting force in any fantasy setting with human soldiers.

The Legions, of the Senate and People of Rome.

Show me an elven army that can beat the Roman Legions. Show me.

In short.....elves die.

Lizardmen, however....they impress me.

The elves in tolkien aren't actually physically stronger, men are supposed to have that on them at least. In the book Hurin's Children, the main character is half and half, and is trained by the elves, so he has their speed and skill, but with the superior physicality's of humans, so is better than most of the elves.
wasn't Turin entirely human?
I think his mother was an elf...although not 100%.

Some elves are. Not Tolkien's, though. Read the Silmarillion, and watch Lord of the Rings elves turn from "mysterious and awesome people better than humans will ever be" to "people who've been screwing stuff up for the past several millenia and are on their last legs." Might be a bit too harsh of a description, but it gets the point across.

Half elf for life, baby.

Thats what I always play anyway.

I really don't think about Aliens much, because, although I think they do exist, theres next to no chance they'll arrive here in my lifetime.
Congratulations on bringing to a halt all rumours regarding your sexuality.

On the note of Elves screwing stuff up - how much crap have the Night Elves of Warcraft buggered up over the years? Between summoning demons, sundering the planet, stopping Illidan from blowing up Icecrown Glacier and Shattering the Scepter of the Sands they're not doing too well.

That doesn't quite make them worse... I've read every single thing by Tolkien regarding Middle Earth and the rest of that stuff, and the only reason elves are doing so bad is the inclusion of unrealistically overpowered "gods" so to speak. And curses, if you know who I'm talking about (Feanor and his spawn =P)
"Tears unnumbered ye shall shed; and the Valar will fence Valinor against you, and shut you out, so that not even the echo of your lamentation shall pass over the mountains. On the House of Feanor the wrath of the Valar lieth from the West unto the uttermost East, and upon all that will follow them it shall be laid also. Their Oath shall drive them, and yet betray them, and ever snatch away the very treasures that they have sworn to pursue. To evil end shall all things turn that they begin well; and by treason of kin unto kin, and the fear of treason, shall this come to pass. The Dispossessed shall they be for ever..."

Without these artificial difficulties, I'd have to say that elves would never be reduced to their state and would reign supreme for obvious reasons.
I dunno. I'd think even without the cards stacked against them, they managed to get into enough trouble on their own that they'd at least have to deal with the race of men on equal terms...

How do I best phrase this....?

Elves are physically better in every way than men.
They're stronger, faster, more resilient, more skilled in combat, their skin is harder to pierce, they heal faster, their senses are heightened and they're more skilled in the arcane arts than men.

However, they lack the emotional strength of men - they're much less patriotic and unmoved by the misfortune of other people. They don't act rashly or without consideration.
This means that men can achieve much more during their lifetimes than an elf can, because they are capable of amazing feats of bravery and have a strong urge to help out people in need.

For example, the men of Rohan and Gondor relied on each other heavily to come to each other's aid in times of difficulty and war, whereas if say, Thranduil's kingdom in Mirkwood was attacked, it's unlikely any of the other elf kingdoms would come to their aid (at least not in any hurry), but the men of Dale would come without hesitation.

I hope this helps in some way. :)

Humans are better then elves and that is proven especially badly in Warhammer 40,000. Dawn of War shows that space marines own elves at everything and only after Dawn of War 2 came out did the developers feel bad enough for elves to give them things to compensate for being so pathetic. The eldar (space elves) are like the imperial guard without the obscene numbers. They're flimsy and while they can move they still can't outrun bullets.

Drow are the shit.

That is all.
I don't think drows exist in Tolkien's books.

There was a mention of the dark elf "Eorl" or something, but he's the only one I remember reading about........and he was probably of Sindarin origin.

What, does that mean I'm gay?
I know, it's okay. Sometimes it can just sneak up behind you like that.

Turin was completely human. You're getting confused because of his mother Morwen, who's described as an elf because she gives off the impression of being one - she's actually entirely human.

And elves are never said to be weaker, it's just that they prefer to fight with technique and precision, so physical strength isn't necessary for them.
