Are teachers allowed to kick you out of the classroom for looking at your phone?

phones should be on silent cause if your phone rings your disrupting the class. but looking at your phone doesnt disrupt much.

it sounds like your teacher is a bit hardcore.but i can understand teachers getting annoyed if student sit all day texting people and not paying attention.

i dont think that people should lose marks on exams for looking at their phone weeks earlier and the teacher shouldnt have marked you absent from class for the whole day.

actually, rutgers has a horrible program to help disabled people
You know, most people start off a response by saying "actually" when they plan to say something contrary to what I've already said. Looking back at my post, I didn't say anything about people with disabilities, much less their relations to Rutgers. So I'm a bit confused as to why you even brought this up. Unless you literally mean "a horrible program to help disabled people," rather than "for helping." If that's the case...it looks like you're angry that Rutgers helps disabled people.

Oh, and TCNJ, I forgot about them. I guess my original quote should have been, "I couldn't even get into Rutgers or TCNJ."

besides im just telling you what ive experienced my whole life from school. if theres one thing i learned besides math, writing and sciences its that teachers abuse their power all the time and from what ive read here it dosent get better in college. why should i go some place where i know im not going to get an education at all and just have a miserable time
Wait...then why do you assume that you won't learn anything from college? You seem to think that things are going to be more of the same, but somehow you'll stop learning completely.

I loved how this logic went, though. Even if you did go to a shitty highschool, you're still basing your decision of whether or not to continue your education on a vague anecdote by a random guy on an internet forum.

Frankly, I think you're making the right choice: trying to get into college would only hurt your self-esteem.

You already knew that she had zero tolerance for phones. Turn it off completely before you go into her lesson.

I'm not on her side- she was being too harsh there, but you should really learn to deal with unreasonable people in positions of authority. You're going to meet a lot of them.
Or drop the course, OP said it's an introductory math class.

They can usually kick you out (or get security to, if you refuse). I had a professor once kick someone out for coming in sick. I've never had a problem with mild cellphone use during lectures. A lot of the rooms at my school don't have clocks in them, to prevent people watching the clock towards the end of class. Since most young people don't wear watches, people wind up checking their phone instead.

And I'm guessing you didn't look at it for yourself? Like any other issue, if someone tells you something, you should examine it on your own time rather than just assuming that they're right.

College works semester-by-semester. You might have lousy professors one semesters, but you might have great ones the next. The trick is to actually look them up before signing up for the class.

I suggest you start capitalizing sentences, then. Because writing on the internet is still typing, and that makes habits.

No shit, Sherlock. You only hear "horror stories" about virtually any profession because most people are good at what they do and therefore boring to talk about. Customers at a store are four times more likely to tell friends about a negative experience than they are a positive one.

that last point can be wrong, most stories my friend tells me are about his major teacher and the misadventures they have.

plus, when i write, i use actual capitals, just not in forums. i also write them first.

also, what do you do if the only teacher for a class is an asshole?

I'm sorry but judging from your posts you are a terrible writer. You can't just say "I don't feel like writing properly on the forums, I am just going to write lazily!"

That gets you into a habit, and habits are VERY difficult to break. Your syntax, grammar and punctuation needs work as well.
in my work, i write, i dont type. if you really want me to though, i'll change it.

word of advice: dont criticize others work over forum posts. unless you've read it(which i know you havent unless youve tapped my house)

If you want to be a writer, you also need to work on your comprehension. S/He didn't criticise your off-line writing, s/he simply extrapolated on the basis of your posts. I would also say, on the basis of your posts, you should not attempt to become a writer. People don't write well in one medium and then let their structure collapse in another; you are either a capable writer or you are not.

not only is this accepted this is the rule where i live.
there will no things that can disrupt the class or that will keep your concentration of the class and that varies from phone to videogame.
as i said this is completly normal and you are expected to turn your mobile off before you even enter the class.
it's hard but it's there.

The rule was printed, therefore she can enforce it. How strictly is debatable. I'm curious about something else. What is your college's policy on laptops? I can't imagine them forcing the students to take written notes in this day and age. (Though perhaps in a math class pencil and paper is better, unless you're really good with LaTeX.)

My point is that nowadays a phone is not just a communicator, but more like a micro-computer. I think it's perfectly reasonable to use the phone for jotting down notes and looking up concepts. Claiming that a phone is a tool of distraction and has no place in a classroom is wrong in my opinion.

If a student is not paying attention, then it's not really the phone's fault. It's because he is not interested in the material taught. It's possible that he is forced to take the class, but usually it's because the professor is not engaging and interesting enough.

When I went to uni, there was no attendance, and it was interesting how most classes had exponentially decaying attendance, with varying half life. (Some even went bellow 10% of the initial value, because reading the textbook was just as effective to learn the material.) But there were a few that actually grew in attendance because people came from parallel courses to listen to the prof.

If a professor does their job well (make the students interested in the material so they would want to learn it) there would be no problems with lack of attention.

This. I am a bit confused about my warning though, why was it counted as low content?

Why don't you ask the admin of your college instead of us? We don't know the rules. We don't even know *you*.

It's bullshit, yes.

Thank you!

In Canada, its our taxes that pay the teenagers scolarship. I rather pay lots of taxes and see the students succes rather than paying lots of taxe and seeing them fail because they keep looking at their crotch and smile...

Its their future, we need to make them care and to make them start acting like adults... someone must do it

I approuve of this message!
