Are you actually good at gaming?

A Hermit's Cave
In general, I'm an OK gamer, which is pretty good since I didn't really get into gaming until something like 2002-3 (or thereabouts, but please note, I was 16 at the time).

I never really invest all that much time in gaming, so I can honestly say that I major league suck at god-games (just don't play them enough to get them), I'm competent at shooters (give me six hours to analyse a map and I will be able to advise people on how to pwn, but can't pwn myself, because my twitch reflex is rubbish), I'm iffy with pure-RTS's (once it goes to hard mode, I'm ended or even normal, depending on the game), and I'm a dab hand at WRPG's. However, the TBS/RTT system, I'm good at (Total War etc. 'cos I love me my military history). All other genres: don't play 'em at all.

Somewhat below average I'd suppose, thats why I mainly stick to single-player games and take my time. :)

I'm fairly good at single player games (I've been playing them nearly my whole life, after all), but you most likely will beat me at any kind of multiplayer. Although I've gotten a bit better at Black Ops, but I don't play it much so that fact will probably disappear soon.

I like to think I'm a good gamer. My K/D on Blops is 1.5 or so, and I make a point of using guns such as the Kiparis or the ASP just to show it isn't the gun that gets my kills.
I've never seen a game that I couldn't beat and I play all genres.
There is one skeleton in my closet however.
One dark secret...
I suck balls at RTS games like Company of Heroes or Warhammer. Seriously, I can't do a skirmish on the easiest setting, let alone the first proper missions.
Also I Wanna Be The Guy is enough to bring any mortal man to tears.

Yep, I could be a pro if I'd want to. The profit of getting the first computer at the age of three.

I'm rubbish at most games. Especially competetive games. As I've grown older, I simply do not have the same reaction times I did in my youth. Now when I was in my 20s, I was a Street Fighter veteran, even did respectably in a few local tourneys though nothing with the clout of an EVO or anything. But still, respectable.

Even when I was good at fighters though, I was never what most would call great. I never speed ran Mega Man or held a leaderboard place above the 200s. But as with all of us, I have some games I'm better at than others. I was particularly good at the Batman: Arkam Asylum Challenge Rooms, scoring respectable places on all the combat challenge maps, though consistently less on the stealth challenges because as fun as those are, I didn't like having to pull off certain moves when I could come up with my own plan for taking down the bads. Combat though, I don't have a score that placed below the 4000 mark and some as high as in the 200s, which among a group of over 60,000 I was pretty proud of.

Yes and no. Some games I'm good at while others I'm horrible with. Even within the same genre I can be good and bad at a game. For example, I'm typically good at puzzles, RTS, or just plan strategy games. However if I'm unfamiliar with the games mechanics I will still get stuck/crushed/ect.

The opposite happens as well. I'm typically poor at shooters and platformers. Yet I was rather good at Halo and Mario when I played them when I was younger.

Any competitive game? I'm good if I bother to learn the ins and outs and practice. Just like everyone else. I can say that if me and a friend pick up a game and are both playing it for the first time I generally do better.

I think my abilities range from average to pretty good. In COD I think I'm better than the average player (interpret that as you will) and I beat ME2 on the hardest difficulty to get the platinum trophy for the game. I'm horrible at most games like Starcraft even though I freaking love it. And I've beaten a very wide variety of games, so I like to think I do just fine.

I sucked at RTS untill I got sc2. It got me so incredibly competitive that I trained and played untill I was diamond, and I think that is kinda cool.

Still suck at all other genres though, except maybe shooters :p But you don't want to see me with a fighting or racing game.

I'm far from the mark when it comes to competitive gaming, but a select few just click with me. I recently loaded up Splinter Cell Conviction online with a buddy for co-op, and killed everyone in the first level in what felt like (and looked like from his POV) one fluid motion.

My driving skills in GTA alternate between astonishing people when I'm focused, to embarrassing myself when I'm not. The only reason I play Devil May Cry anymore is just to show off, and none of my friends will even face me in Soul Calibur.

That said, most puzzle games make me feel like a rhesus monkey with down syndrome, and I learned a long time ago to only play single player on games like Call of Duty. Strategy games aren't much better, but at least when I play an offline RTS I can cheat and feel more like a god than a general.

PS: speaking of shooters, anyone have any advice for the first boss fight in the FEMA facility in Deus Ex: HR? I didn't have enough inventory space for the rocket launcher, stealth is useless, bullets and grenades seem to have no effect. It's not often that an enemy in a game can take a shotgun blast to the face and not even flinch before picking you up and breaking your neck for an instakill.

I think I'm in the upper half in FPS' because in my prime halo days (when halo 3 was so popular) I regularly would lead my teams in kills and I did very well against known Pro gamers to the point one of them asked me if I was one. But I have since fallen from that high but I still have my moments where I go into all out beast mode.

I used to be fairly godly on the Devil May Cry series, specifically 3 and 4, until I stopped playing due to lack of interest and lost my skill. Now I get owned by Blitzs (Blitzi?) on Hard mode :( Coming back to it in preparation for DmC though.

BF2, BC2 and the BF3 alpha are all roundabout 3 K/D and 2.something W/L so yes I consider myself pretty good.
