This is probably going to sound condescending but did you even watch the presentation? It was either scripted or they managed to both pretend they were both good and bad. She kicked his ass 5 mins after he beat her in the exact same fashion so it was most likely scripted but there was no way she was really that bad.

You know, I watched the conference, I caught the joke, and I expected this. I am kinda surprised it took so long.

You realize that those demos are mostly scripted. And that the long joke was the female presenter's "shark" comment and subsequent beat-down of the producer? It was hilarious, taking in the full presentation.

Medical operation, as was said before. Also, getting a tattoo, I suppose. I find it disheartening that "it can only be about rape and nothing else" when, in fact, it can. Similar language can always be used when somebody is in a bad position and somebody else is advising them to bear with it. Now, it could be rape, but saying it can only be rape because it could be rape strikes me as "jumping to conclusions".

As a healthcare professional that routinely needs to inflict minor but necessary pain to patients, let me assure you that you never, ever, ever say that to a patient. Not that there aren't some douchebag healthcare professionals that try to play it "cool" like that ("oooh I made a rape joke, aren't I super edgy and cool?"), but I would seriously consider it grossly unprofessional. So please, don't consider it something acceptable within the healthcare profession because one doctor committed a faux-pas.

And no, it's not jumping to conclusions. That is exactly what the comment was about, and what it tried to convey. To presume otherwise is to play dumb.

i think there is a big difference between casually making a rape joke/reference, which i think in general is terrible, and a comedian making a rape joke on stage at a performance. the previous is probably a spur of the moment thing - brought upon the unexpected, while the latter is a professional joke maker utilizing a taboo subject to make the audience, who probably paid to go see the comedian, laugh or think or both. the audience expects taboo subjects because they are seeing a comedian - and the comedian is probably making the rape joke in a larger context, and comedians are professionally trying to make you laugh and/or think, which is why i don't care if a comedian makes a rape joke, or any other taboo subject (see the aristocrats...). the average idiot though - they don't have the credibility or respect to needed to have that context and it makes them seem like an insensitive asshole.

That's not how you phrase it. "It will be over soon", on its own, is sometimes used, granted. But in conjunction with "just let it happen" or some other variation of "stop resisting"? No. That is HIGHLY inappropriate precisely because it carries some pretty terrible connotations even if those weren't your intentions. "Please calm down" and "please, we need you to be still" are MUCH preferable to "stop resisting" in any medical instance.

There is, of course a phenomenon in which women are asked by society to adopt behaviours of men to be "accepted" and to fit in. Women tend to be harassed and even threatened for not basically acting like guys. This is a legit phenomenon in psychology, though I forget the actual term they use (The overall effect, not specifically gaming).

In short, you're not actually saying anything contrary to the concept that these supposedly "gender blind" sentiments favour one gender. You reinforce the concept of male-space and it's natural that women involved in that space will adopt the behaviours, whether they like it or not.

Additionally, you're espousing a line of thinking that in itself is indicative of cognitive bias. The response, while not as vehement, is routed more or less in the same space that has people threatening to rape Anita Sarkeesian for suggesting the Emperor has no clothes.

I mean, you can shrug it off all you want, but it still exists.

As far as I can see, the only sexist person here was the author of this article. I heard virtually nothing in that video that was a jab against the female player's being female. If it had been another male playing, no one would have said ANYTHING about it.

I admit that when I first read the line about just letting it happen, my mind did not go to an image of sexual assault; it went to an image of a commando with his arm around an enemy's throat and a knife in the enemy's chest, whispering into his ear not to struggle and just let it happen. That, however, is where my mind went. The point that got missed to me is that you shouldn't be trash taking your opponent in a professional environment. It makes you look like a child.
