Wow, someone just took a chainsaw to their credibility :D
Man with somuch journalism experience writes a title bashing article without ever checking the background stories... that is just amazing, seems ignorance is on the rise again.

One of the dumbest articles I've ever read. I actually left a comment expressing my opinion of it. Just gonna copy/paste my comment from the article's comment onto here:
Wow.... You really are stupid aren't you? Well I wish you luck with finding your next job Dean. Here's a pro tip: STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM JOURNALISM! (caps was necessary for that to hopefully ensure that it gets engraved into your thick skull)

You know, I don't mind him saying that WH40k rips off GoW in the aesthetic sense, since that's just an ignorant person being ignorant. What I do object to is him stating that Space Marine rips of GoW gameplay. It's a 3rd person cover-based shooter, for god's sake! It's like saying CoD rips off Quake because both are FPS games.

Basically, a moron who decided to flame, good for him.

Except the gameplay is different. The only similarities are stylistic ones and anyone who says 40K ripped off GoW in that department is a fucking moron. I've never played Warhammer. I've never read any of the books. I've never played any of the vidogames. I still know they didn't rip of GoW.
At the end of the day, it's a third person shooter that uses executions. Has a chainsaw gun, and has a roadie run sprint feature. Nothing wrong with taking elements from other games, but blindly stating that the two games have nothing in common, and flaming the shit out of a guy who notices they do is kind of crazy.

I love Halo, and if some guy said Halo was shit it would piss me off. But if someone said Halo was taking gameplay features from the original Doom I would say well yeah. It's a FPS. Nothing wrong with taking ideas from other games.
There is no chainsaw gun in Warhammer 40k. There is however a Chainsword which is a big difference.

Well he apologized and cleared up his bad act so I see no wrong. Just a little misguided and ignorance, that's all. The good thing is that he learnt.

...His apology was longer than his article. Something strikes me as being seriously wrong there.

I actually read about this in pcgamer yesterday... showing how the weapons such as lancer and gravity hammer were inspired by the weapons in Warhammer 40K i have NEVER played anything involving warhammer and i know better then that writer

And the fact that it has orcs rips of Tolkien really?

Nowadays you can't really pick out many genres on their originality, most certainly steroid-fueled space marine shooters, but if they're going to argue about copying they should at least research to find out who copied who.
My thoughts exactly; I've heard people claiming Battlefield is a CoD clone, despite the fact that Battlefield came out first and the two have a lot of differences which give them their own niches in the FPS market/fanbase. I'm surprised though that he didn't pick up on the fact that there is no cover system in Space Marine (there was going to be one, but Relic felt it was wrong for the Emperor's Own to be hiding for their health to regenerate) and there is far more of an emphasis on melee combat.
And that is an awesome facepalm marine!

From the update:

This is not an apology where I say "I'm sorry" when I really mean to say "fuck off." I am genuinely sorry about being imprecise.

What a dick.

He titles this "how Space Marines Rips off Gears of War" even though he acknowledges in the article that Warhammer 40k and all it's features and appearance pre-date Gears of War by TWO FUCKING DECADES!

That just shows he is trying to be deceptive. Not "imprecise" the title is in in hge bold text at the top claiming the precise opposite of fact, that is not opinion that is an allegation of plagiarism. His claim that his "opinion" that it is a rip-off is an uninformed opinion which should be dismissed.

The title should obviously have been "How Gears of War ripped off Warhammer 40k"

Since everyone basically claims that every MMORPG to come out post-WoW is just a WoW clone (I've even heard people call games WoW clones even though they were pre-WoW... That they "stole ideas" from WoW while it was under development), this guy can say whatever the hell he wants.

Here's to not caring about either game.

I do admit, though, that Warhammer 40k invented the chainsword.
