I am fine with religion as long as people don't use it as justification for their negative actions. Example: I killed a couple hundred people, but I did it for jesus.

I really hate the assumption that happens a lot on the internet, especially on Youtube. It's how almost all arguments get started. It's the assumption that you are totally ignorant of absolutely everything in the world except what you have posted. People treat you like a moron who knows nothing at all for no reason. What do they expect? That you introduce yourself and write your entire life story and list your education and career before every single thing you post? Well I have news for you, Youtube has a character limit on comments.

Quick tip: If anyone you know thinks that animation (excluding porn) is only for kids show them Grave of the Fireflies. It will really open their eyes.
On a side note, I personally really hate that film. One of the only Ghibli films that I don't like. I just don't like any of the characters and don't care about them, so I don't feel for them and it didn't give me any kind of feeling when they died. To me it was just a waste of a few hours and I wish I never bought it.

Since I'm a Christian, it is a supposed fact that I'm stupid, have no interest in science (I really enjoy Human Biology) and I'm just generally out of touch. I also sympathise with atheists that are assumed to be inherently evil or just close-minded.

One that very often irritates me is that becaue I'm a bit over 6 foot 4, I regularly play basketball. I don't hate basketball, but I'm much more into martial arts and just generally being active. Being a white 18 year old male that drives a commodore and plays videogames leaves me very open to others, but the height issue never goes away.

I know that this is a bad attempt at satire on my part, and my wishes go out to all who suffered in the twin attacks, but I hate it when people assume that because one person who played some video games commits acts of terror, they assume that all video games are bad and will make you evil. (That one's been waiting for ages)

I also hate it when some people assume, one, because I don't listen to the same music as them (usally dance, R&B, Hip-Hop etc.) that I listen to classical (because I look like (more like am) a nerd), two, that because I do not pick on people and try to be diplomatic that I am weak, three, that becuase my ex is two years younger than me I am a peadophile and four, that I am poor beacuse "only" I got an iPod touch - the irony is that our parents had just finished paying off the mortgage, and that the person who said that lives in a council house.

On a different note, Doclector, I applaud you.

I hate it when people assume that us Brits are all top hat wearing, scone eating, tea drinking toffs who all live in castles and worship the Queen.

It's also annoying when people seem to think that Britain is still LEAD and GOVERNED by the monarchy. People always seem eager to forget that Britain was one of the first (note that I said ONE OF THE FIRST, not THE FIRST) countries to have a Parliament and some form of democracy.

Sits back and awaits a surge of "US AMERICANS INVENTED DEMOCRACY" comments.

How when the Oslo bomber was caught, Fox news said "JIHAD!!!!"

...seriously Fox? Really? A Jihad? He's a fucking white Christian crazy person.

I was impressed though that they went with Jihad instead of video games. Put me on my ass laughing.
the funniest thing is the fact that if you were given the killers profile aside from his name, it would sound damn close to bill o reilly.

I also hate the assumption that because I prefer consoles to PCs, I must be an idiot. It's less how smart I am, and more how much effort I can justify putting into a playing a game. If I could be bothered with manually looking up patches, dealing with the increased DRM, and fiddling with settings, (not to mention actually getting a laptop that can play more than flash games) then I'd play PC, I am actually really jealous of some PC exclusives like amnesia, penumbra, the various brilliant looking source mods, and various things on steam, but I just can't be bothered, when I buy a game, I want to play it with little to no fuss, which appears not to be the case with the multiple stories of PC gaming nightmares I hear.

HAD TO DELETE THIS BECAUSE OF ASSUMPTIONS.
Actually the U.S. is a democratic republic... and we invented neither.

Heh, cheers for removing the assumption I made. Sorry, force of habit.

Anyway, I never said the US wasn't democratic. Just referring to the fact that Britain had a parliament since 1707, whilst England and Scotland had their own parliaments since 1264 and 1235 respectively. :p

:p That is quiet alright. Both countries have failed at what a democracy should be, while still claiming to be great for that which they have so obviously misrepresented at courses throughout their history.

The U.S. is just the classic victim of the here and now. Plus, as an American (and I'm sure as a Brit, you agree), the party system is the dumbest shit ever. Hell... our (not yours) founding fathers told us so. *facepalm*

Pretty much the whole playing video + a kid = violence!

Also I hate when people assume I can speak Chinese but sorry to break it to them I can't at all! Well ok I can't blame them too much for it but really I can't speak it at all. I can understand a little but not fluently.

The most annoying for me... where people assume I should be smiling. Not really an assumption but you would be surprised how many times certain people ask me why I'm not/don't smiling/smile.

back to assumptions, when people assume I'm being aggressive or similar action or emotion, that I find the most annoying. It usually results in comments that would prove Godwin's law once more.

That anything can be called "true" other than in a rigidly, concisely, and meticulously designed logic such as FOL.

Indeed! As Winston Churchill once said;

"Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

Why? Why not? Saves time. And now, without further ado, because it probably should've been posted a while ago, The Assumption Song!

Haha yeah I've seen that. It's pretty funny.

Men with kids = paedo :/ I'm good with kids, like my cousins, better than my sisters!!
Men can't get preggers or have periods so have no maternal instinct, no right to kids and can't be good parent because of this.

Also: Because men can't have a period we can't possibly ever know what it's like to be a woman but they are apparently always in our one-minded-all-of-us-find-them-inexplicably-attractive heads.

Score 3 more for the 'equality' of Feminism!

I am the first person I look to blame. Only when I can't possibly fathom why it could be my fault do I look elsewhere for the cause. I'm not a pitiful excuse for a human being because I'm mildly autistic, I'm a pitiful excuse for a human being because I'm a pitiful excuse for a human being. I am not blaming women for not being attracted to me, they'd have to be both insane and blind to be attracted to me. I don't have a job because I am s*** at most things.

But I suppose that would be the self pitying response, huh? I can never. F***ing. Win. I have no pity for myself, every time I make a mistake, I punish myself for it. If I make a mistake while working, I don't sleep or eat until I fix the error. I make a mistake involving a girl, I don't get to see her anymore (I make a mistake, she won't want to see me. She's happy, and I get the punishment I deserve) any other mistakes, I bite myself, in the arm, as hard as I feel I deserve.

I blame myself, I punish myself. I do not blame others, because I may be a just plain "wrong" person in every way, but I am not enough of a coward to blame others for my s*** and allow my mistakes to be unpunished. It is the only way I will learn. I know the world around me has alot wrong with it, but if I don't force myself to become a better person, then I'm just a hypocrit.
To be honest dude, blaming/punishing yourself to that degree is kinda self pitying as well... Look, making mistakes is part of being human. Don't try to apportion blame or punish anyone for them, just accept them and move one. If you learn from the mistake, it wasn't a completely bad thing!

I dislike assumptions people make about me (based on their own experiences with people who are very much NOT ME) when I talk about my faith.

I've never shoved what I believe down anyone's throat and I've only ever talked about my faith when in an open conversation or specifically invited to do so. I'm a peaceful person, I try my best to be loving and kind to all people regardless of who they are, no I don't have all the answers and yes I do accept evolution and the big bang. I honestly don't mind if you're of another faith, atheist or agnostic, I'll treat you with respect, just please do the same to me; because I do have feelings.

And please don't associate me with these rather right-wing groups who do all this crazy stuff in the name of God, which is often anything but in the name of God. Many people have used God, the Bible, Qu'Ran, Torah (etc) to justify their imperial impulses, their need to dominate others and pushing their own agendas. For instance, this group trying to get games banned in AUS because of what happened in Oslo. The guy is part of a 'Christian' organisation who clearly has his own agenda when it comes to this stuff. It doesn't mean that because I may fall under the same moniker as him, I automatically agree with him; I'll fight against what he's pushing as fiercely as anyone else, because I believe banning a medium which is essentially freedom of speech is wrong.

Anyway, I'm rambling but I hope my point has been made.

I'm quite into The Devil Wears Prada, one of their albums is titled "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord"; it means that they are giving this 'noise' as worship to the God they believe in (they are a Christian band). Anyone who calls you a devil worshipper based on the heaviness of the music are very misguided. It's not about the "niceness" of the music, it's about the heart inside the music maker. But yeah, I don't for one minute think you are a devil worshipper.

Let's see. Personally, a few assumptions I've come across that annoy me:

1) If I make some vague mention of being female, I must be trying to get special treatment for playing video games and being a girl.

2) Following up on number 1, if I am female and play video games, I must either a) play only "casual" games, or b) be godawfully ugly. I just... don't get how those stereotypes/assumptions came about.

3) If you are atheist, you automatically hate all religion. Excuse me, no! I quite respect religious people and never try to force my beliefs on anyone.
LiberalSquirrel, you took the words right out of my mouth. On all three counts! Spooky =)

I'd also extend the first two to cover 'Girl who does science'. I know being a female graduate student in Physics/Chemistry isn't the most comfortable road you can take, gender politics-wise (even today) but jeez...

I *really* hate the assumption that some people make that because I'm a woman, the science I do must be 'easier', and that I must be looking for special treatment. Augh! The whole reason people formed 'Women in Science' groups etc was to effing *protect* themselves from bullshit like that...

*can't...contain...rage...* *BOOM*

*cough* sorry, Rant over ;-)

Wait you can study chemistry in the kitchen?

Never assume something, because when you assume, you make an ASS of U and ME!
Had to get that out of my system, sorry.

OT: I hate the assumption that because i?m slightly chubby, I?m also mentally deficient. Pretty stupid. Also, I like videogames, DEAL WITH IT!
