His argument is self defeating; he argues that the only people who care enough about ratings to debate them are gamers, so why go to so much trouble to protect the general population which you yourself admits doesn't give a shit?

Heh, If his job as Attorney General doesn't work out, I'm sure Fox and Friends will be happy to have him

Oh, so that's what he looks like. I now find it even harder to take the man seriously, ha ha!

But seriously, those statements are fundamentally retarded - you might as well say "elections aren't fair because all the people who don't care about elections enough to participate didn't participate!" - of course the only people getting involved are those that care!

Everyone hates you because you say stupid shite like that.

Gaming community, send him money to see a dentist as a formal apology.
I was going to make a crack about his bad teeth but I see you've already done that, thanks!

So... if you're going to ignore the consultation, why bother even setting it up. I mean, I understand a lot of gamers are jackasses and I'm sorry if you're getting death threats, but it doesn't justify censorship, which is what you're doing.

Politicians should be rated for their extremist views from "guillible crackpot" to "stubborn denialist"

Well maybe the pure hatred that everyone who knows anything about games is sending will kill him off.

I dunno, he just takes away our civil liberties (well not mine, but still).

So in his effort to stop the R+18 game rating he has decided to blame democracy for being unfair. I'm just waiting for Godwin's Law to come into effect!

So basically, even if the majority of support is in favor of R-18+, it will be invalid simply because they're gamers?

Alright, we need to take this up a notch. Sending him e-mails was all well and good, unless you're one of those people who just sent death threats despite being constantly warned not to do so by the rest of us...now see where that got us, thanks dicks!

Anyways, maybe we should try to get the attention of the general population of Australia and try to rally up more support. Mind you...I have absolutely no idea what the best way to go about this is, but if nothing gets done than I fear we all might be in deep shit. Even those of us outside of Australia, because like Yahtzee has said, other countries might start catching on.

Then I have one question to ask you Atkinson

If the public doesn't give two shits about this debate... WHY THE FUCK DO YOU?

What do you hope to gain by attempting to force through legislation that half the public doesn't give a shit about and the other half hates.

The land down under is sooooo strange.
Cause he never got past the first koopa in the first mario game, which led to a life full of ridicule and a crusade on his part.

So the reason that the poll will be unfair is because the only people who will get involved are the people who the poll directly affects?

Man I have to find which dictionary he got that definition from.

This probably reflects ironically on when you have to assasinate a council member in morrowind so you can become a warleader.

(Disclaimer: no I do not intend to kill the guy myself and i'm not coaxing anyone into doing so. Just voicing my oppinion, like a civilised person)

Oh god, the only good thing is that he might just give it up and kick the bucket soon enough.

OT: I have expressed my views on Atkinson. If you don't know them, alert me & I shall make them clearer in these forums.
I think really what that person meant is that all these "violent, depraved gamers" are gonna lynch him...

OT: Can you say douche bag? *Points at this fool
Too bad for all you down under folks! Hope he just gives up soon!

[HEADING=1]Shouldn't that be a hint that no one aside from the gamers and he himself give a shit?![/HEADING]

Seriously Atkinson, find some other windmill to fight.

"But I don't plan to back down from the fight. I started my mission and I plan to finish it." Does that sound like a R-18 movie or game qoute to anyone else?

But with the public consultation nearing, Atkinson appears to be hedging his bets somewhat. Speaking to GameSpot AU [http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/modernwarfare2/news.html?sid=6246574], he predicted that the process will show high levels of support for a "mature" videogame rating but suggested that such a result would be pretty much invalid because the average Australian won't care enough to speak out about it. Furthermore, he claimed the discussion paper is biased because it doesn't clearly present to people what sort of content they're voting for.
So are you going to tell all the civil liberties groups to bugger off as well, simply because they have a vested interest? For example, I'm pretty sure it was mostly women staring the discussion for women's suffrage.
