I find it funny to see so many people here saying that Atlus is being stupid for not releasing the game in the US, that they are shooting themselves in the foot, etc... when it's not Atlus' fault, it's the Westerns society's (mostly America's) fault.

Come on, guys, what did you expect? With the Western world (led by the U.S.) so hypocritically obsessed about the poor children -- to whom this game is clearly not intended, by the way -- and with everyone thinking that protecting the young'uns is everyone else's responsibility but the parents', I too wouldn't release such a game if I were in Atlus's shoes. THAT would be shooting myself in the foot, the way things are nowadays...

Yeah, Political Correcteness is a *****. We the Westerners invented it, now we'll have to live with it.

Way to go Atlus.
I intended to buy this (having been made by the Persona 4 team), but now I don't think I'll buy any more of your games until this comes stateside.
Sorry, guys.

I guess your right, still I wanted to play it cause it seemed pretty innovative, but as we all know, innovation and originality are frowned upon in the west

But then HOW WOULD THEY AFFORD TO BRING US ALL THESE WII PARTY GAMES AND NARUTO TIE-IN GAMES?

CLEARLY THAT MUST REMAIN THEIR TOP PRIORITY.

[sub]Thanks, Atlus USA, for backstabbing us all.[/sub]
Seriously, Japan has a very wrong idea about what a large portion of Western gamers want.

PWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. SUCK ON THAT.

You see, i'm a PC gamer, so i don't care. None of Atlus's titles have been ported to the PC so i can neatly say that this one won't be either.
Thank you. By posting this pointlessly inflammatory comment, you have given me one more reason to find most PC gamers to be stuck-up jerks. You truly are a credit to your hobby.
Wow, you're easily offended, aren't you? Poiumty clearly said it in jest, with an obvious trace of regret that Atlus never makes PC ports of their titles.

Which isn't exactly relevant, since Atlus USA is an American company.

Okay, I'm not clear on this one: was it the decision of Atlus US to not localize it, or the HQ's in Japan? I mean, Atlus US is a subsidiary: shouldn't such major decisions be reserved for the HQ or something?

I don't really get into jrpgs much but...the tone and subject matter of this game really intrigued me. There just wasn't much like it no the shelves as near as I could tell.

Pretty sad about this. Here's hoping things turn around.
Actually I downloaded the demo off of japanese XBL marketplace and it wasn't a JRPG at all, it was more of a puzzle game mixed with a visual novel. The gameplay was pretty fun (even though I had no idea what the instructions were telling me) and the story seemed interesting as well (even though, again, I had no idea what was going on).

OT: It wouldn't surprise me if this never came out here, since as I just said it was half visual novel half puzzle game and visual novels don't tend to fare very well in western markets.
Interestingly enough, there's a rather sizable chunk of games on the nintendo DS that fit this very description. God, the DS has the best library ever.

Well, the original Persona was ported to the PC. That said, that was back when the PC market was significant and even then it was only released in Japan (which I find perplexing to this day, especially since the PlayStation version was localised). So yeah, nearly all Atlus titles are preety much irrelevant for people who purely game on their PCs.

Anyway, this isn't really suprising news. Any sex-related media tends to stir a lot of controversy in North America. Even as a niché-focused publisher, Atlus USA still cannot afford to take a hit to their reputation. So even though they could earn a decent profit from localising this game, they probably don't see it as being worth all the hassle a localisation would bring.

Atlus USA enjoys a great degree of autonomy, so all localisation and publishing efforts in the North American market fall under their jurisdiction.

Seems like something that would be a better fit for a third-party developer anyway- someone willing to do the translation and field the inevitable fallout in exchange for a modest financial reward. I can't blame Atlus for not wanting to do the same. Maybe after the Supreme Court decision and Fox News and CNN finding something else to get their knickers in a twist about.

But what if the JP Atlus pushed it to another publisher as to avoid the US blocking it out, to make us all happy *Cough* *Cough* Give it to Aksys if US Atlus won't publish it *Cough* *Cough* (P.S. Just played the demo on my Xbox cause PSN doesn't have the demo,it's pretty good, despite me not understanding a single word of the story, but the gameplay was pretty impressive, also during the boss nightmare it was fast-paced cause you had to go really fast to avoid dying)

Unfortunate. This is the kind of thing that I think we could really rally behind. I'm sure it's VERY well done and could show that this medium can do some awesome things.

I am the saddest panda in the history of sad pandas.

I really dislike JRPGs, almost as much as Yahtzee, but I (for some reason that I still can't put my finger on) love the Persona series, and when I heard that the people who made the Persona games were making a brand new game, I almost got an insta-boner, without even knowing anything about it. And then as more info on the game was released, I got even more excited. And now hearing that it's not even getting outside of Japan...it's just truly disappointing.

Can't say I'm surprised. Americans would have pulled the game from shelves immediatley anyway screaming "think of the children!"

Anyway sounds like Nicholas Cage heard the news...
