For fucks sake, now they're going to go LOOKING for people to oppose it, and then once they have that, they can simply claim there's "OVERWHELMING" support against it.

It's nothing to be afraid of, it's a screenshot taken from the next Sonic game. This time the gimmick is that his eyes can turn into Kirby.

Legislation takes time ... and thats whether or not it's importnt legislation. For example, legislative talks about the merits of buying weapons, or the price of grain exports, or tariffs on imported electronics from Japan will probably be discussed ...

But if one from the house of reps is like "My question is to the Finance Minister; how is the Government going to resolve the matter of the Super Tax on large industry that will affect my constituency so drastically? Oh and can we hurry up and ammend the R18 games classification please?"

It's not going to be a quick thing because nobody in federal government positions deems it important.

Saying that they want to take more time is merely the government's response of "Bah .... why are people wasting my time with this shit, nobody in the upper or lower houses care, and we'll get6 on with it when we fucking get to it, 'right?"

It will be one of those proposals that gets stuck under a paperweight ... slowly getting yellow with age until it niggles at a Home Affairs minster's conscience that he/she will eventually ratify it with his/her advisors and pass it on to the Senate for voting.

can't we just KILL michael attkinson, PLEASE!?!
It no long has anything to do with him, he's not even in office.

Looks like we're goign to have to wait for a generation of lying idiotic politicians to die off before we can have our Civil Liberties back, for now we'll just have to live with being treated like children by our government and just enjoy turning into communist China.

There there Steel Knight, just a bump in the process hopefully.

What next, consult the wildlife for their opinions on the matter? Everybody had the chance to say their piece on the rating matter, majority were for the rating in consultations. Further consultation on the matter might sway some favor towards the groups against, but not enough to put this issue down I think.

Here is hoping it's only a bump in the road, not a crater.

Uh, its too early in the morning to explaining commmunism.

Read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship_in_the_People's_Republic_of_China for starters, and realize the Australian government is moving to implement a firewall of our own(not as bad AT FIRST), but its the first step down a very bad road.

I kind of see where they could be coming from, but it seams doubtful to some that it's the actual reason. Look people, Michael Atkinson is the only representative stopping the rating change. I don't think the rest of the Australian government shares his views. I'm a bit skeptical but I'm not calling Australia out on this one, for now.

That's conservatism for you.

Believe it or not, we in Oz don't actually have a left wing party. Not any more.

Pls explain it to me, I haven't been watching the dispute.

What's the rating about? What's happening to the games which would be suitable for the 18+ rating? Are they banned, censored, or what? Or were they supposed to be banned completely and the 18+ rating is a solution to make these games legal?
They're banned. 'Refused Classification' is what they call it over here, but it's the same thing.

They give you the option to have it censored (see L4D2), but most devs don't bother because we're not a very high priority on Prison Island.

Well, there is the Greens. But they're not one of the major parties. Liberal (Who aren't really liberal, by the way) and Labor are so similar these days that it's really hard to tell the difference.

Blimmen Hell Australia, aren't you at least embarrassed that your baby brother, (i.e. New Zealand,) is growing up so much faster than you?

I don't quite understand why the Australian Government doesn't catch on. I mean there's a demand for an R18 rating and really they have no excuse not to deliver. They should fully understand where gamers are coming from too; remember:
Their generation was the one that was told that Rock and Roll was bad for you. Their generation was the one that set up pirate radio stations so they could listen to the music they wanted to because their governments wouldn't let them. I mean come on, why does the cycle have to repeat itself? Why can't one elected braniac catch on?

Until then, keep up the entertainment value Australia.

Yeah we do want it, but passing it would require our current government to actually do something. They don't like it when they have to do stuff.
