I'm not biased when it comes to avatars. I generally pay attention to them more than usernames, so it's just a way to identify people. But I have seen people disregard my posts/flame me for my avatars. Cheap shot if you ask me.

Internet hipsters with their hilarious meme avatars. It doesn't really bother me, but every time I see one I die a little bit inside.
If you die a little inside it sounds like it does really bother you.

I don't usually bias against people solely on their avatars, although MLP avatars are getting annoying, due to my moderate disdain of the show in general. Then again, people who use old game sprites get my attention, as I love old sprites. I dont even care what they're from, just game sprites in general appeal to me for some reason.

I just realized I have no idea where my avvie came from. Just found it on google.

I really should find the artist.

I get a bit irritated by people without avatars. Mostly because I identify people based on their avatar, not their screen name. (Kinda the same in real life too, I remember faces better than names.)

Also, I don't like avatars that are a photo of the user's face. Don't know why.

I rather like MLP avatars. Not a fan of the show, but I can't deny it makes for good internet imagery.

I don't think the first one counts. The OP wanted to derail the thread.
Oh, if we're not counting derailments the OP was involved in I've never seen it happen.
Well, the main argument is that threads are "victimized" and "taken over" by pony posting which shows disrespect for the OP and the discussion. But if the OP is involved with the derailment/starts it, how can that be the case?

I hope my anime girl avatar doesn't bother anyone.

On topic, the MLP ones. Sorry.

Hmm, I thought the argument was that the ones making the argument were "victimized" by being subjected to a pony thread in disguise. I'm not saying it's a good argument considering the ones making it are the ones who also post in every single pony thread as well.

Good point. I just have never seen a thread completely derailed as some claim has happened. Maybe partially derailed, but it got back on track soon enough.

I usually think less of people with porn avatars, or other types of avatars in which there is female/male character in questionable pose/clothing. I just find it extremely distasteful in a place where people - at least some of us - try to have a civil conversation.

Also people with kinetic pictures that flash rapidly or such I find annoying, it is like they are trying to get attention... Seems rather sad to me.

I don't like avatars that...move, or well, are animated, they distract my eyes...or something. It's annoying is all.

While i'm on the annoying topic: Text in your avatar...Don't, just don't. None can read it due to it being, well avatar-sized. I can barely read any of them.

I saw someone the other day with a Michael Bay avatar. I have to imagine he was trolling, and if he was, it worked. Caught my attention and made me disappointed.

Not really. I mean, I have a stick figure literally vomiting a rainbow to let you know how awesome whatever he witnessed was.

Bit hard to judge after making that decision.lol

The ponies are annoying simply because they are so prevalent, and it seems like you all are just mindlessly copying each other. Now, if I see an aircraft related avatar (Such as my own F-15 firing an Anti-satellite missile, or my previous F-15 firing a Sparrow Missile), I automatically think more highly of that poster because aircraft are awesome. Kind of like how I instantly feel a sense of camaraderie with anyone who drives a Cadillac. It just feels like we are in a little circle of brotherhood that most people aren't worthy of joining. (And extra bonus points to any of those people who have a pilot's license.)

Okay, this has gone unanswered long enough. I have only ever seen this happen twice, ages ago. So it's nowhere near as rampant as HighPlainsSquinter would have you believe...
Huh? When did I say pony derailment was rampant?
