Well certainly there are people who take things to the extreme when something 'new' comes out (Referring to the stunning 3D effects).
Especially when it comes to escaping their 'mundane' lives. Just Look at MMOs and drug addictions.

Although I wonder why they'd want to visit Pandora, when everything there seems designed to kill you.
You can't even breathe on the planet.
People are weird.

Anyways, your original post just seemed like a dig at people who liked the movie (I enjoyed it).

It was... the exact opposite for me.
People on the Escapist seem to have a thing for hating anything anywhere near related to the "mainstream."

Though I feel that way about music, I thought Avatar was an extremely good movie.

I loved Avatar it was awesome, I thought making it in 3D was fantastic.

I was really engrossed in the movie during the whole time and I ended up crying in the end it was that good ^__^
